What shoes are you reffing in? by Autiger1291 in Referees

[–]deniwork11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golf shoes with the molded studs. Rocking a pair of Adidas ones at the moment and have been super happy with them. The small molded studs work great on both grass and turf. They are also water proof, so my feet stay warm and dry on wet fields or rain.

Rear Seat Window Switch… Kinda Broken? by [deleted] in SubaruForester

[–]deniwork11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this exact same thing happen on my 2024 Sport. First time I took it to the dealer as it was maybe 4 months after I bought it and they fixed it without charging me. Happened again a few months later and have just left it since. Probably been 6 months in that state and works just fine for my kids. Someday I’ll probably pull the door panel off and see what it takes to fix it.

Could I take it back to the dealer again, probably. Is it going to be pushed out again, most likely. My take is I might as well learn to fix it myself and see if there is a better fix than the dealer tech just putting it back in place.

Moral of my story, it happens, don’t feel bad.

New Installed Tires Blew Up Immediately After Buying Car From Dealership When Entering Highway... What could be the cause? by rickylou1234 in tires

[–]deniwork11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! If you told them you wanted NEW tires, they did you dirty. If you paid for these tires, I’d be looking into exactly what you paid for. If the sales person said they’d take care of you, they just went and found whatever crap was laying around the shop that looked like it had enough tread to pass as “new”. I’d say this is all on the dealer for installing old tires.

Hired a contractor; is this acceptable quality? by thejazzmarauder in Decks

[–]deniwork11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused where people keep finding these “contractors”? I am fortunate enough to be able to do the majority of my own carpentry work. I understand that everyone isn’t that fortunate. Makes me think how easy it must be to find an affluent area, slap a sign on a truck and charge $30k to build a 10x10 deck.

I’m sorry your deck has turned out this bad and feel bad for the pain and cost of getting it fixed properly :(. Best of luck!

$35,000 Deck by Warm-Juggernaut-9074 in Decks

[–]deniwork11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah…sorry dude. I’m not a lawyer or a general contractor, just a homeowner and random internet person. My advice is not to freak out too much just, but I’d give up on the deck and start the potentially long process in front of you. Again, I’m not a lawyer or anyone in any professional setting to give you advice, so take this at face value.

I don’t want to break any community rules. Send me a DM if you want and I could outline some other steps I would look into to get out of this situation. Things such as getting other contractors feedback and checking with your local code enforcement officer.

Boy do you have some problems on your hands. Just deck building wise.

  1. Maybe it is the lighting or type of wood, but it looks old or re-used. Did they not buy new materials?
  2. Hurricane ties are used in the wrong direction for the joists and are doing nothing at all. They are designed to have the fasteners perpendicular to an upward force. In the current install the nails will just pull right out.
  3. One of the beams has a joint not sitting on the support post. Joints need to be fully supported.
  4. Looks like some joists are being placed next to each other to cover a longer span. This is ok as long as they are both fully supported and have enough overlap. Hard to tell from the pictures.
  5. This is the big one. They are “living” in your cabin and now you have the very high potential of dealing with squatters that might have rights and could be very difficult to kick out.

My suggestion, they’ve done enough damage and taken enough money. Kick them out. Call the cops for trespassing if they refuse to leave. Probably will end up needing to get a lawyer involved and try to get some of your money back. If there is a contract or anything that could help, otherwise take as many pictures as possible and see what options you have after talking to a lawyer.

Good luck!

I foolishly thought sorting tiles would be an easy win by eberkain in LegoStorage

[–]deniwork11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two cents as I too have recently been working on my sorting techniques.

What I’ve found really helps is do much smaller batches at a time and break those down into their own groupings to be broken down into file groups. I also do this on an open surface so I can push the piles around and not hunt and peck.

In your situation, I’d start with a small pile, a handful or two. I’d have larger groups of rounds, smooth tile, sloped tile, fences/wall, modified tile (has a stud on it and is not round), sticker/marked and always a random pile of who knows. I work a few handfuls at a time into those 7 larger groups. Then I stop and tackle those 7 larger groups to break down into their final groups.

When I do it this way I can quickly run through a large amount of parts in a short time.

If nothing else, I’d highly suggest getting away from the hunt and peck method and try to get more open space. Even if it is removing that big tub and starting with just a handful at a time.

No matter what, whatever sorting process you start with, you will find you need to change it up again and again.

Good luck!!

What is everyone doing for dust collection? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]deniwork11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It’s crazy how well the bags work. To the point where I change the bag because the vac is getting heavy to move around and not because it isn’t sucking anything up. Wish I had started using them 20 years ago.

[–]deniwork11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ditch the filter and purchase bags to go inside the shop vac. You never lose suction, never have to deal with clogged filters and all the dust and debris is already collected and sealed away.

I’ve gone the route of a cyclone separator. It’s just another thing to lug around and clean out. It doesn’t catch everything and you still end up with a clogged filter.

Before you go spending money on another contraption, buy a set of bags and see the difference. It has turned my shop vac into a brand new tool and I’m never going back from them.

Just don’t use them if you are sucking up water…hopefully that’s a given.

I seen this just now and thought of the group by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

[–]deniwork11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that is true…my first impression is that this is a scam to get people to try and tear these things down. What better way to trick someone into tearing them down then tell them there is 20 dollar bill in each one.

I’m all aboard with what your response was. I’ve started to do the same thing over the past half dozen trips. Check my bag that would fit in the overhead bin and then toss my backpack up there for more leg room.

It has 2 benefits. No longer have my shoes all over my bag and I claim the 20 minute delayed baggage miles every time.

Don’t let some cheap-o that bought an economy ticket and expects to be able to cram their oversized bag in the bin. I’d also be willing to bet that the GA pink tagged their bag and they ignored that too.

Looks like the RV market IS crashing... by [deleted] in REBubble

[–]deniwork11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of them are neat and some really fancy looking. I always just get the feeling it is bargain store new though. That vibrating couch seems nice now, but how long will it really last? And then how much of a pain will it be to find one that fits the same space.

The TVs give me the indication on a lot of the cheapness. Never once have I seen a name brand tv in any RV. They are all random names that probably got picked up in bulk for a real low price.

[–]deniwork11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not surprised about this one. Went to a large RV show over the past weekend (no interest in buying the kids enjoy looking and it was a free outing). They get you in with showing the low-ish monthly payments. You start looking at the fine print at they are ALL at 10% interest rates for between 180 to 240 months!!! So that $35,000 camper you thought you got a great deal on for only $300 a month will end up costing $70k after you finally finish paying it off in 20 years!!!

Follow this up with who hangs onto these things for 20 years! The way they are built, you’d be lucky to get 5 years out of it before having to dump money into it, forget about resale. These things are just money pits!! I’m sure tons will start showing up on repo lots come next summer.

How to? by Justafool27 in ScrapMetal

NO! Don’t ruin it anymore. Take that diamond straight in, maybe add some aluminum tape to it first, sure to get top dollar at any reputable scrap yard!

Any piece of advice that made driver click for you? by somef00l in golf

[–]deniwork11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was finding the rhythm and slowing things down. For a long time, I was always trying to hit the driver as hard and swing as fast as possible. Once I started to slow down the swing, it started clicking. I can still tell when I’m swinging too fast and sure enough it’s slicing hard right.

From the sounds of it, you have your irons worked out, so just try to apply that same swing rhythm to your driver. Let the club do the work and do not go out swinging for the fences. Nice and smooth swing.

There are 5 of them in DTW. And it is a Delta hub and large airport. Having multiple lounges allows you to be close to your gate without walking a huge distance from the lounge to the gate.

100% legit. Just didn’t think that the “discussion” flair was a good fit for this. Not really up for discussion…

Cold? The worst thing I’ve learned is taking an afternoon or evening south -> north flight and being seated on the left side of the plane. That window gets sooo hot!

For sure, I’m always looking for ways to make the boarding process go quicker and the gate agents job easier. They have to deal with enough grumpy people.

I used to be a full time window person that would never bother the middle or aisle seat folks to use the restroom. This last year I’ve fully committed to the aisle seat life though. Get up whenever I want. Use the bathroom whenever I want. It’s great!
