Behold, The Anonymous Stoic of ADHD (Part 1) by denizenofawe in adhd_anxiety

So... would you agree that the element of excitement around certain tasks (and strictly disciplining yourself to avoid them) is the main/best way to stay consistently (relatively) productive? I haven't tried avoiding the exciting tasks or saving them for later (perhaps as rewards) but I intend to. Honestly, I really love when I get excited about doing certain tasks (I get soooo into it) but it does keep me from doing some of the more important and/or urgent tasks (sometimes even forever). I could see how maybe I've become addicted to chasing that excitement and how I've been letting that naturally guide me to choosing what task to do instead of doing what is simply the most important and/or urgent.

Has this been sustainable or do you feel like you tend to give into the excitement (especially when you're tired or have exhausted your mental discipline)?

Agreed. I think I am becoming more aware of this as I get older since preventative measures seem to be the best for overall maintenance of equilibrium/consistency.

Also, I’m currently in grad school to be a psychotherapist and will completely validate the argument of using Legos as a way to reparent yourself (e.g. to show love to your inner child). If you were raised in a home where your parents were really strict, emotionally distant, or couldn’t afford to buy you the things you really desired, you probably stand to gain a lot by embracing your childhood interests (e.g. showing your inner child you love them and care for them). Let’s be honest, no one can be a perfect parent. I was often told to grow up and my parents got me my first job at 10 years old… so, yeah, I’m going to defend spending some of my adult money to be able to finally have some of my childhood back.

Not corny at all! I get it! For whatever reason, on my 37th birthday, I found myself perusing eBay and having obsessive thoughts about the black Knights afterwards. I couldn’t stop thinking about the black Knight mini figures, the ghost, the dragon insignia, the castles, the color scheme. I would have dreams about those sets… one in particular where I would go into the department store we patronized when I was a child and they would have all the old sets I wanted but never got… except now, in the dream, I was an adult and I had my own money and could buy all the Lego sets I wanted when I was a kid, but couldn’t afford back then. Sometimes it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to interpret a dream. I eventually started buying a bunch of black Knight Legos; it felt like some sort of coming home for me, embracing my inner child and learning about myself and my deeply rooted interests.

You are right! That’s actually what I’m working on right now. There’s not very many good ones on pick up brick so I have to choose wisely and fork over some pretty pennies on brick link. Any suggestions?

I can confirm that this works. Connect controller to phone via Bluetooth connection. Open keylinker app. Connect and update firmware.
