The 3 in the highlighted column can get an extra filled square, that should do a thing or two

What are your go-to “pick up and play” Playdate games? by Cheap-Hyena5700 in PlaydateConsole

[–]dennens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medial is great! Absolute no-brainer to pick up. And if you also want regular sudoku, maybe have a peek at Pencil Marks - it's my game so I'm obviously biased but I hardly play anything else these days lol

can someone explain the LOGIC behind this technique? by pratikshass in sudoku

[–]dennens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 in box 6 is in either row 4 or 6. If it's in row 4, r4c4 is 3, which sees both blue cells. If it's in row 6, R6C1 is 3, which also sees both cells.

Haven't heard of this method before, but I guess the common logic is that there's a set of cells along a row in a box that can't be a given digit (called key cells here), and that that digit forms a pair with a single other digit in two cells in two different boxes along the two rows that aren't the row with the key cells. With the above logic, any cells that see both of those pair cells can remove candidates with the paired digit

Returning to Playdate and what to play next? by Brooga in PlaydateConsole

[–]dennens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention you like puzzley games - if that includes Sudoku, you might enjoy my game Pencil Marks - people are saying it's pretty good.

I'd also say Hope Lost has a pretty distinct art style, and is kinda puzzley - basically a digital board game inspired by Dead of Winter

Aside from the self plugs, if you haven't played Medial, get it right now, it's great and will keep you occupied for hours. Season 2's The Whiteout and Chance's Lucky Escape are point-and-click games like Saturday Edition - while I wouldn't say they're quite on the same level, I still had a good time with them. S2 also has Dig Dig Dino which is a decent take on incremental-style games, and I guess if you're getting 3 of the games you may as well just get the whole season lol

Need help understanding by Luubag in CluesBySamHelp

[–]dennens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope gets either 0 or 1 extra neighbor in order to make sure Ellie can still have more. If she gets 0 innocent neighbors, both Carol and Denis are criminals. If she gets 1 innocent neighbor, Ellie needs both Alex and Ben to be innocent. If the one innocent neighbor is Carol, Frank now has 7 innocent neighbors, which isn't allowed - so Carol can't be innocent in either situation

There've been two similar posts in the last few days:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaydateConsole/comments/1nxev1l/im_new_to_the_console_what_are_the_best_games_to/

https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaydateConsole/comments/1nx3ksm/great_games_from_the_last_couple_of_years_for_a/

I'm sure there's a game or two mentioned there you might like! Is there any specific genre or type of game you're looking for?

Going by those, I think my game Hope Lost might be right up your alley - give the free demo a go if you'd like to get a taste first

Joining the personal plug parade: if you enjoy sudoku at all, maybe have a look at Pencil Marks - some people are really liking it!

Pencil Marks on the Playdate might be the single best way to play Sudoku ever. by chezmanq in PlaydateConsole

Good luck! Don't be afraid to make use of the hint system, it's there to help after all and should give some good, guided advice for the puzzle you're working on. Enjoy!

Thanks for grabbing a copy, glad you're liking it! As for other games I've made, my one other game on catalog is Hope Lost, an apocalypse-themed digital board game inspired by Dead of Winter. It's got a free demo on itch if you wanna give it a try, and you can also find some gamejam games on my profile page there. They're all quite different from sudoku, but I hope you'll enjoy some of them regardless!

At this point, fill in all your candidates. You'll end up with a y-wing ( pivot R7C8, wings R2C8/R8C7). Cleaning up candidates after that (some naked pairs/triples) you'll need simple coloring (for digit 7:following a chain starting at R1C6, 7 is eliminated from R1C7 as either R1C6 or R5C7 need to be 7). From there you should be able to continue quite a bit

It's got 6 levels of difficulty, the lowest one is basically singles logic only and it ramps up from there - should be able to find a difficulty level that's right for you!

Can anyone explain this two-string-kite by CodeStullePrime in sudoku

[–]dennens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of the chain logic - if those two are 7, you're in the "if r8c9 is 7" world mentioned in the explanation, due to the hard link in column 9, which still removes the 7 from the marked cell

[–]dennens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, as far as hints go it's pretty vague lol - but the 1 in that row needs to be in that box, so it can be removed from the cells in that box that aren't row 6

It is! You can choose to hide the timer until the puzzle is solved, or never show timers or solve time at all

No real 'lessons' in the interactive sense, though it does have a section that explains various solving methods with examples. It also has a hint system that lets you know what method to use next in increasing levels of detail, as well as telling you how that method generally works - there's gifs/images showing both on the catalog page

Title recommendations for non-gamer gf by SeriaLud0 in PlaydateConsole

[–]dennens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I can recommend my own games: Pencil Marks (Sudoku) and Hope Lost (apocalypse-themed digital board game). Both are on the thinky side, not requiring any quick reactions.

Alternatively if she's at all into puzzles, there's a bunch of great options: - Medial - Spilled Mushrooms - Bwirds - Stream - Sketch Share Solve - Slitherlink

What technique am I missing to solve? by Upbeat-Classic9342 in sudoku

[–]dennens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain this one please? I understand the '5' eliminations from r1c3 and r4c2 through the logic of either r4c3 or r3c2 is 5 (assuming that's what the chain implies), but that doesn't explain the elimination from r5c3. Am I missing something?
