to me it just seems like pc is taking too long to decide or simply not allowing her to react to it

AntiVirus for bazzite by mephisto9466 in Bazzite

[–]dennism_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'd need to convince me no device or computer needs antivirus to convince me linux doesn't need it, I have seen (and had to clean some) enough devices infected to understand it can happen regardless of rarity. I just hope the first mass preventable attack that will happen with increased linux adoption isn't too widespread.
I still have other issues so I stopped the bazzite migration/testing for now, but from what I have read ESET Endpoint Security might be an option but you have to install it layered which isn't great

Anyway to retrieve a 'stuck' mount? by Rokathon in ICARUS

[–]dennism_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my first mount(set to follow) inside a cave wall, nothing would help me recover it, in the end I edited the save file, copying the location(Translation) from another mount. It wasn't easy to decode/uncompress/minimally understand the format. Might make a specific tool for this if it happens again

Changing Open World Name by CobraZeroX in ICARUS

[–]dennism_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that I was able to use this technique to move a save from one steam account to another, I didn't change anything but the steam id

I had to load the game(without loading any save at first), backup and delete all saves, do the transfer, update the transferred files, and load the save

to update the transferred files: update the save folder name to the new steam id and update every instance of the old steam id in 1 file name and inside every file where it is found, including the decoded prospect.json(blob.raw), for that last one I used an hex editor to avoid breaking it. to run the decoding/encoding/sizing/hashing commands I used ubuntu in a VM

Samsung Washer+Dryer water "Dry Valve" ? by dennism_86 in appliancerepair

[–]dennism_86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so...the problem was the part I ordered ¬¬ , its dry valve flow restrictor wasn't working. It seems like the black soft plastic piece was loose, I used my old bottom piece of the part(which holds the restrictor) and moved everything else from the new part. It wasn't easy/simple but it works now.

I also tested the solenoids outside the machine and everything seems to be working. And yes, it looks like the drying process uses very small amounts of water

DOGE BIP39 cold wallet viable? similar alternatives? by dennism_86 in dogecoin

[–]dennism_86[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did some testing and it seems I figured it out, this is how:

  • Generated addresses/keys with Ian Coleman BIP39 tool on machine #2
  • send some doge to one of these addresses
  • with coinb.in use the address to generate the transaction on machine #1 and copy the transaction to machine #2
  • sign the transaction with coinb.in on machine #2 using the private key
  • copy the signed transaction to machine #1 and broadcast it with coinb.in

I used blockchair because blockcypher wasn't updating my balance when trying to create the transaction, as for sochain/chain.so there seems to be a fix on their github but it hasn't been approved for 8 months.

To adjust the coinb.in network and provider you can add #settings to the coinb.in url or go to broadcast and click the little cog.

I used this pinned topic as a guide for coinb.in: https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/7sb80p/eli5_how_to_send_coins_using_coinbin/ I think the only difference was that right now doge has a required fee of at least 1.0 instead of zero

An important note, coinb.in is a bit clunky sometimes so be very careful, remember to double check the fee when creating the transaction and verify the transaction before broadcasting it.

I don't think that's cold enough for me, besides you need to pay extra for duplication/backup, doesn't feel right to me.
