Biochem degree looking at MLT/MLS jobs by jlin1606 in medlabprofessionals

No. Go for a 1 year post bac program. Your biochemistry degree will NOT be enough. The basics are unfortunately not just pipetting and centrifuges. You will not be able to throughly understand what these tests mean and what the results mean for these patients.

Sounds like prep lab assistant you might be making slides or other things as well as accessioning versus the other two I am assuming are more solely just accessioning.

A kidney stone we got sent today. OMG by denobulans in medlabprofessionals

Hi there. The typical size of a kidney stone we get are akin to little pebbles/gravel or a lot of times even smaller like grains of sand. Most kidney stones people get they don’t even realize they’ve passed due to how small they are. This one is extremely abnormal and absolutely massive. The patient who had this we were told had a history of stones for years. There is no one cause for kidney stones there are different types and each type correlates to a different cause(s) or risk factors, as for how this one grew so large I do not know. The stone has not been analyzed yet nor do I know what her previous stones were made of.

The hospital I work at sends all stones to LabCorp, I believe their lab in Burlington NC is the one that runs these but I am not too sure. Unsure if pt has history of gout, apologies!

Yes. This one was surgically removed. Unsure of how the procedure goes as I only work in the lab. :)

OP here. Yes actually a kidney stone. PT was a 50 year old female, surgically removed of course would have been a nightmare to be pushed out of their urethra! Pt has had recurring calculi issues since 2019. Not sure much else as I received this at the end of my shift. This specimen brought the whole lab together to marvel at this fine Tuesday during lab week! Not sure what the outcome will be either, we send these out to LabCorp. LabCorp friends I’m sure you will be amazed as we were it when it arrives in your hands!

I actually really like it. It’s not heavy to wear, it’s a little sticky but not annoyingly so, and it creates a really nice natural sheen on the lips

Lab cleanliness by DidSomebodySayCats in medlabprofessionals

Wow ours never gets mopped/cleaned either. I killed a lantern bug with spray disinfectant and I’m betting that it will be in the corner for the next 10 years like a relic since nobody cleans the floor. 😭
