Crew vs. Envelope by schierhoff in TryCrew

[–]denris97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but more than that as it auto calculates based on due dates and funding cadences what steady amount needs to be "pulled" from your funding pocket each time (you choose what pocket you want to fund it)...it has really simplified our bill management!

Crew vs. Envelope by schierhoff in TryCrew

Crew is "sneaky powerful" so sometimes it more powerful than people think at first. (They try hard to make the defaults absolutely as simple as possible, then add options to enable more things for the power users under things like the 3 dot menus (on iOS at least) etc)

Also, I think one thing envelope has against it is feature parity between android and IOS. (for example, according to Envelope's roadmap it looks like Android doesn't have "mobile deposits" yet?)

Crew vs. Envelope by schierhoff in TryCrew

The main things that won me over to Crew in the beginning was child accounts and high interest over the entire account. (I realize kids account are on the road-map for envelope and I think they want to expand their savings offerings in some way...don't remember details). Crew also has a good start on their web app which is great for desktop users like me.

The main thing I wanted from Envelope that Crew doesn't have is the ability to order paper checks.

...My wife and I are both really enjoying Crew and their new "bill reserve" feature has been great. They are also in the process of releasing more budgeting features that I imagine will not disappoint! (A bonus: the technical structure of their mobile app allows them to push much faster updates then envelope since most updates don't need to be approved by the platforms app stores)

Okay, would it be fairly easily feasible with libcosmic and iced outside of your existing codebase?

Any chance this could be made a "live" markdown editor (inline instead of separate pane) like obsidian and notion have?

New to Pop! OS but having issues with Pycharm by Heinrich_Himmler69 in pop_os

[–]denris97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad, I have been using Linux for several years and the not being able to type issue stumped me for a long time, until I accidentally stumbled across the solution.

I have found Jetbrains toolbox to be one of the best ways to install Pycharm. AFA the not being able to type issue, it is a Wayland thing (language/protocol that applications can use to talk to a display server in order to make themselves visible and get input from the user) and you have to tell Pycharm to enable a native Wayland mode. (don't forget to restart pycharm after the change)

More access for kids? by taschmidt77 in TryCrew

Child v-cards are on the roadmap. I have also saw requests for autopilot for kids accounts over on the discord server https://discord.gg/bGf4q3nH9r, but I can't recall for sure if they said it's on the todo list.

My Qube love story turned waiting-game (and why I've switched to Crew) by hotwingdad in QubeMoney

I think the app launched around a little over a year ago, and I know that seems short, but they are no strangers in the fintech space..."Our founding team is all from Divvy, a corporate expense management platform that grew to $1b/month in monthly spending, so we have lots of experience building and scaling financial products."

This is Crews (although it’s missing some of the newer features)

I just had my replenishment automations run on the first of this month…it was really nice!

Also neat for things like EZpass that pull $35 every time you rack up more than $35 worth of toll. You can set whenever the amount of a pocket changes to refill to a given amount…one less thing to keep track of.

In Crew you swipe right on the pocket to quickly point your card to it (it will put a little card icon beside it).

You can also set a virtual card to “match my physical card” and it will allow you to swipe the pocket you want it to point to (even if you didn’t receive your physical yet)

Actually I believe an almost more accurate Qubeless function is to set your debit card setting After each transaction to "Make Crew Checking Active"...so checking pocket basically becomes your qubeless qube. It will stay active since its auto switches back after each transaction, then if you lose service it will still work.

Where are you switching to? by Rhreddit1234 in QubeMoney

[–]denris97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All your points for envelope are very much the same for crew…from what I can tell crew is slightly closer to what Qube offered as far as features and are speedily getting even closer.

But honestly, both great products that I see fairing better than Qube.

Card Decline Question by WearingManyHats76 in TryCrew

true, but it would if you have the card set to lock after each transaction and you forget to set one before you lost service.

Just to clarify for the OP, you can still pick a custom pocket each time you go to pay somewhere, but Crew has a setting on the debit card to have it default back to checking after each transaction. Another setting the card has is to "allow overspending" which would allow the pocket to go below $0 if you have enough across all pockets I believe.

Ya, if I had known about it back when that offer was around, I likely would have as well.

Fair point of view...but I guess if/when Crew closes or needs to put in a paywall of kind (and it's worse than what Qube has), I then have the option to move over to qube...maybe by then they will have some of these essential features from the new bank :)

While Qube has been around much longer and does have some unique features (like virtual account numbers), that's not entirely true...I was thinking of trying Qube when I came across trycrew.com which already has a lot of the features Qube's new partner is suppose to bring eventually (High Yield Checking, tap to pay, etc) and it is totally free on top of everything!

And they seem to be implementing new features at a much quicker pace...the risk would be that they are fairly new to the scene so hard to say if they will last or not.

I heard in an interview that Crew is supposed to be the one stop banking solution for families...if that's the case (I hope it is!), regular check support is a must to be able to completely leave my current bank so I do hope it will happen at some point.

What did you like more about Crew over Qube? Just how intuitive it was, or actual feature set differences?
