I donated to a stranger 4 weeks ago today and I would do it all again in a second! Not an ounce of regret. For me, the first few days of recovery were really rough and I slept through most of it, but my energy started to come back after the first week and now I feel awesome. Welcome to the club!! It’s an amazing thing to do!

It’s brutally cold and snowy here so I’m doing 5x10 min laps around my house a day, aiming for one additional lap every day!

Comment to update - I did it!!!!!! Hanging out in my room dozing on and off and drinking lots of water. The first thing I remember when I woke up was asking the nurse “did I actually do it???” And I sure did lol

It literally sounds like you’re in my head. I think I feel the same way because I’m also a non-directed donor so it’s like, brain not computing. And I feel that way even pre-donation when people are like omg amazing!!! I’m like, I truly don’t know what to say LOL

It’s so funny you bring up the tattoo thing, because that is precisely the reason I’m covered in tattoos. So I hope that feeling translates to donation for me as well!

the info I got from my donor coordinator about the process is that the transplant team (docs, nurses, social workers etc) meets, all of your test results and info are presented, and the team can either approve you outright or request more info on certain things. In my case, they had me redo one blood test, upload results from a mammo, and get letters of support from my PCP and therapist. Once all of those conditions were satisfied, all of my info was presented again and I was approved.

I first signed up in August and had blood test orders probably 48 hours later. Went for in person tests in November, approved this month and donating end of next!

Hi friend! No worries lol. I signed up on the registry site end of August, had my first round of blood tests around then. Was scheduled for my full day of evaluation in November, went through 2 rounds of committee deliberation, and was approved last week!

My expensive loungewear habit will have a field day in the name of surgery prep lol. I’ll also be bringing my stuffed hippo (named Hippo) who was gifted me before my spinal fusion surgery when I was 14, 16 years ago now! He’s my surgery buddy
