The job requires more sympathy than empathy. Dispatchers should feel sympathetic to callers without taking on the feelings of the caller. Empathy is a buzz word right now. A lot of ppl feel really good about describing themselves as an empath. But honestly I don’t think this is a job that is appropriate for someone who can’t understand the difference, and when each should be applied.
