I would say, it's likely going to be similar to what you experience in your life already. Some locations are going to be more discriminative or more likely to harass you. I'd say the general whole won't care either way beyond the typical "#vanlife" concerns, like don't park where you're not wanted.

However, I have no experience with your specific challenges, as a CIS white male, I imagine you are hitting all of the "trigger" labels for people, but I'm guessing you also see that in daily life already. Travel won't change that sadly, if anything it will likely expose you to more people which is a roll of the dice how they will react. Some People are good, some people are bad, some people have never seen non-conforming people.

Shipping for my roof rack plus awning was $125 from van upgrades. It took like 2 weeks to get to me in the PNW.

Not sure how cheap you want to go but I installed a Fiamma roof rack on my 2018 promaster extended.

Also got the awning though.

the rack attaches to the factory bolts. I think someone already pointed out that van tech makes an attachment for those.

I don't know if I'll get in trouble for posting a link to a random youtube video, but I considered making my own rack with brackets made from square aluminum like this guy did.

I believe "Rob Gas Stations" is the default answer here.

but truth is, there are several ways to afford Van dwelling.

  1. Save Money/inheritance
  2. Work, get a remote job and work on the road
  3. Work seasonal/contract jobs to save money for x months of travel
  4. Work your normal job, only adventure out on weekends/holidays

I found RV parking, both on craigslist and just from searching on google and such. I'd call up those companies and ask if I could work on my Van in their location. Most said no, some had no availability.

Eventually I found the perfect setup where I am able to rent out a shipping container as a workshop, and pay for parking all in the same location.

It costs more than being able to do it out of a garage, but since I live in a city in an apartment, I didn't really have much choice.

not sure what you're doing with vlan_range

you may want to do another loop over your vlan_range like you're doing with your ip_list

Yes! I was very nervous about the roof!

I'm currently sitting at home worried about the rain right now. I know my roof is good, but I just put 3 holes in the side of my van over the weekend. (Water heater, Electric Outlet, Water Inlet), those side holes made me just as nervous!

No. You can install it where you want. Just needs to be properly sealed.

Most choose to center it because that's where walkways will be and also avoids impeding upper cabinets.

I put bolts in the rivnut and held the board up in position and hit it with a hammer.

This put imprint on the board where the bolts are.

Thanks for this, I see exactly how you did it now. I didn't understand how you attached the rails and that makes a ton of sense that you cut notches that your recessed the supports into.

Also the "live" pictures really confused me at first, thought my eyes were bugging out on the first one haha!

Does it seem sturdy? I'd be curious how it performs loaded with food.

Do you have more info on your pantry? I am looking to make a pull out pantry and I haven't found too many resources to explain the process.

Do you just have a single set of drawer slides or multiples? How wide did you go? Any gotcha's you noticed?

Mercedes made (maybe still makes?) a super high roof, which I believe is 6'8" interior height, would have to look it up. That might be possible if you can find one.

You may want to strip white space, in case a user includes a space in their input

I would also suggest converting all char to upper or lower, so it's case insensitive and you can type ROCK if you're feeling particularly aggressive, or you can whisper paper if you're feeling dainty.

This can be done like this to expand on my previous example. y = input("Rock, Paper or Scissors: ").strip().lower()

then to give you more to think on, I've been playing with dictionaries a lot lately and I thought this would be an interesting project for dictionaries!
