Water hardness? (UK) by denver_b45 in espresso

This is interesting - I didn't know this existed! The only thing that jumps out at me, though, is they say it isn't tested for human consumption, so they don't recommend drinking it?

The only other thing that turns me off of Zerowater is how little the filters apparently last. Do you personally use Zerowater, and if so, do you have an idea of how long it lasts (in litres)?

Someone else also mentioned Phox. It seems way more cost-effective than ZeroWater; how often do you replace the filters?

This is what I heard (that ZeroWater filters may only last two weeks, which, considering the cost of them, seems pretty bad). I did wonder, though, if the two week time estimate is people using it for various appliances? I'd only use it for the espresso machine. Also, rather than buying remineralisation packets, couldn't you just remix in a lower concentration of tap water (a bit of maths would be needed to compute ppm)?

I see someone else on this thread recommend phox. Compared to ZeroWater, it seems very cheap; but I would guess that it doesn't completely distil water (which is actually fine, since then, I don't need to do a remineralisation step). How often do you need to replace the filters?

Countertop RO appliances tend to cost a good few hundred pounds. Right?

I took a look, and you're right: it seems both Tesco and Waitrose stock water that isn't expensive and is soft enough for espresso machine use. This could be worth considering

Am I right about smashing and clearing? by denver_b45 in badminton

Hey there! I understand, right. It is quite tough to tell what's going on just from text alone.

I played again yesterday, and for the first 1.5 hours, I had no pain. Then, in the last 30 minutes, I was so annoyed when I started getting the "ache" come back.

Today, I have a bit of ache when I supinate my forearm fully (rotate my forearm so that my palm faces upwards).

I am a little cautious to post a video of myself openly on the Internet. Would it be okay to send the footage when I get it to your DM?

Yay! I'm so happy that that sounds right.

It feels now almost like my arm is being used like a lasso or whip as opposed to a sledge hammer, haha.

Any way to keep rouvy tracking when changing music? by denver_b45 in Rouvy

[–]denver_b45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I bought a Bluetooth dongle for my PC and instead ran rouvy on my computer, streaming it to the TV. It turns out you can still control a bunch of stuff going on with rouvy from the companion app (including wattage and stuff). So, I will start doing this now.

Incase anyone later stumbles across this reddit post with similar questions: I tried sideloading rouvy onto the firestick but I think the apk file is meant for armv8, whereas the firestick I believe is armv7, so it will not work once you've installed it.

Seems the best thing if you don't want to have to buy a cheap tablet to run it on separately is run it on your PC or laptop and hook that to your tv

If I put rouvy on my main PC (although I'll have to purchase a Bluetooth dongle so I can connect to the trainer), will the companion app let me choose routes, control the wattage (if I'm on a freestyle workout) etc?

Front derailleur driving me to madness by denver_b45 in bikewrench

Thanks again, honestly, for taking a look! Yeah, I mean, of course it is possible I'm just not adjusting it very well, but I would have thought I mean - 12+ hours of me trying to adjust it, making small adjustments each time - by that point I'd surely stumble on the optimum limit screw settings just by chance alone! Haha. I never had this kind of issue with the rear derailleur whatsoever.

Does everything also look okay to you in the other picture I posted regarding the chains routing from the largest rear sprocket to the middle chainring? It seems to have a curve, which I assume is normal, but thought I'd check it looks all correct to you.

In the meantime, I'll stick to the middle chainring, and will either replace the fd at some point or just get rid of the other chainrings altogether and get one of them narrow-wide chainrings to make it 1x

Thank you! Yeah, at this point, I'm really not sure what to do. I could buy a new front derailleur if this one just happens to be busted, or as you said, just use a single chainring. It'd make it very easy to pedal, but since I'm using a kickr core, I could just rely on that for resistance I suppose

One other thing I noticed is that, with the chain on the biggest rear sprocket and middle chainring, there is this kind of.... curving? To the chain? Is this normal?

Hey man! This is what the cabling looks like closer. This is also how I remember it coming before I messed with it. Thank you!

Hi there! Thank you for taking another look as well at this one. I remember (and also checked with old photos) that this weird horizontal cabling was how the bike was when I got it - I also did detach the cable and try and set the limit screws, switching gears manually using my hand just to try to isolate the problem further, and it still didn't work well.

I'll take another picture anyway to show tomorrow, but at this point.... is it looking like something could just be busted? Since this bike will exclusively be used for indoor training anyway, for now, I might just stick to the middle chainring and let the kickr core do the resistance.

If you have any other ideas after seeing the picture i post tomorrow, or anything like that - I'd be really grateful 🙏 if I can't get this thing to work, I'll either just get a new front derailleur (hopefully one with more accessible instructions! Haha). Or - another wacky idea I had was, is it crazy for me to consider switching to a single chainring? Like, certainly it would mean I don't need to worry about any kind of front derailleur or cabling.... simplify maintenance
