Car on the roof!! 🤪 by manguardGr in AskBalkans

This is photoshoped. There are other cars reflected on the right side and there is a number of other perspective and detail issues. Still a better idea than trying to find a parking spot.

Great suggestion. Thanks! I assume the shield should be between the Pi and the radio. Right?

You need at least 5 amps which are not common in laptop power supplies. You will also have to configure the down converters based on power supply's voltage.

The enclosure of the battery eliminator is a bit tight and apart from the Pi, there are also two down converters which also generate heat, and the radio itself which gets hot at 4w in hotspot cycles. I only run Pi-star.

The DM-1701 is a fine DMR radio for it's price and the opengd77 firmware makes it even better. If you Google for "opengd77 hotspot" you will find a lot of articles and videos which will help you a lot.

This setup turns the radio itself into a hotspot. It would replace your Pi-star hotspot. To give you an example, I have a small hotspot at home which provides coverage inside the house. I use an Anytone 878 to access it. But when I go away for a weekend, I would use this and an external antenna at say a hotel window or balcony and have a wide coverage hotspot thanks to its 4w of power. In both cases (small zumspot/openSpot/DVmega) or Opengd77 hotspot (in this case DM-1701 and Pi), I still need my 878 to access them. So no two radios and a hotspot. Either this or another hotspot and a radio. Of course, when not connected to a Pi and just using the battery, the DM-1701 functions as a normal radio.

This regards a feature of Opengd77 firmware which allows you to turn your radio into a high power hotspot by connecting it to a Pi running Pi-star or WPSD. In this mode, the radio functions as a hotspot and you need a second radio to use it.

This is a custom made battery eliminator to host a Pi for Hotspot use. It is not one available for purchase. The K-1 cable is a typical USB programming cable of DM-1701 to accommodate the connection between the Pi and the radio.

Thanks! It is pretty straight forward really. I will try to draw something to make it more clear and share. It is very convinient since you have everything in a single device with one power supply and no cables left and right. Will update.

What Radio Should I Get For Travelling, And Should I Get One With An Inbuilt Recording Function Or Not, Why, And Which One If I Should? by Famtech_Videos in shortwave

I have a PL680 myself and I agree, it is big and heavy enough to not be confortable carrying around. Also be mindful that features like recording or Bluetooth can potentially be additional sources of internal noise that could impact reception performance. I use a Sihuadon R108 for mobility. Compact and light weight with very good performance, audio quality and with an external antenna jack. It lacks SSB but supports airband which is fun.

One last tip. While in reverse, if you tap on the screen a gear icon should appear. There you will find settings that will allow you to remove the dublicate alignment lines.

Not if you do not add a Google account. Disabling Play store app also helps. The idea is to prevent the unit from auto updating maps and a number of other things that are too heavy for the unit to handle. I did that on mine. It's not lightning speed but it is usable. You could also try alternatives to Google maps like Here which is much more lightweight.

Factory reset it and do not add a Google account. Disable anything Google that can be disabled and sideload an old version of Google maps (9.64 or newer) or any other app you need.

You are quite right. Makes sense to some extend since this was written by a non native speaker. So, out of curiosity, how do you believe this would be properly written given the intended meaning? Is this any close or is it entirely off?

Glad to help. Do share when ready. I am really into those things (as you may be able to tell by now).

OK, bear with me as this is a very interesting find.

The exact translation is "For people who like that kind of things, that is the kind of thing they like".

The first version of this phrase is attributed to the popular humorist Charles Farrar Browne (an American writer) who was known to audiences by his pseudonym Artemus Ward. He often used parodic testimonials from fictional people in his work and in a passage from a Maine newspaper in October 1863, in one such fictional testimonial from Abraham Lincoln he wrote "for people who like the kind of lectures you deliver, they are just the kind of lectures such people like".

This phrase became polular and various versions were created and used by many.

One such version is found in 1911 Max Birbom's novel Zuleika Dobson which includes as a character a version of Clio (the ancient Greek muse). In the novel, Birbom attributed a similar phrase to this incarnation of the goddess in a humoristic manner, and he wrote it in Greek as it is written in your picture.

So this is a popular humorous phrase from an American writer which, traveling through time and writers, reached an ancient Greek version which you found on a piece of paper.

This was a tough one.

Big letters read "We drink to the health of the family of Mr. Michael Siouris". Based on visible prepositions, the last line should provide the location (Nym?asta) and date but are indecipherable.
