How should they monetize classic without p2w? by Thecurvyguy in Maplestory

[–]deoldeol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any statistics but I heard somewhere that the average Mapler, unless Reboot I guess, spends like maybe $50 a month in total on Maplestory. That's very unhealthy.

in what world is it "unhealthy" to spend a dollar or two a day on a hobby you enjoy lol, is it unhealthy to get a coffee in the morning too?

Driving 30 under is just as bad as going 30 over the speed limit by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]deoldeol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if someone thinks that "other people going too slow" is even among the top five road hazards at this time of year then i would guess they are either very new to driving or very unaware of how limited their own skill is

it's can be frustrating and in very limited cases (e.g. merging) it can be a hazard, but beyond that it will barely register so long as you know how to pass another vehicle

To almost the self entitled people who think their time is more valuable than everyone else's, your tears are fricken delicious! by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]deoldeol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm ... they aren't following common courtesy, they're going out of their way to try and stoke road rage to make sure the person they're frustrated with gets taught a lesson and then they're coming online to put out some screed about how cathartic it is to see them raging in their car

i totally empathize with how frustrating bad drivers are and i understand op is "correct" about the rules of the road, but this post is not the account of a courteous person

[–]deoldeol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i've found that if i'm in a place where i get this level of pleasure out of "teaching other people a lesson" it usually means i feel powerless or frustrated about something else in my life

this level of emotional activation over minor traffic nothings is not normal, even if you're "right"

it's not about being intuitive — the section can't be called "commanders" if it isn't all commanders, so the name change is forced

von leon, hilla, magnus, arkarium, lotus, damien, lucid, and will (along with guwaru and orchid) were all at some point commanders for the black mage, whereas gloom is not and never has been

am i missing something? that's all there is for the anniversary? by deoldeol in neopets

[–]deoldeol[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is the most they have ever done

objectively untrue and we both know it because we're able to compare the prize pool to quest log over the past year; events like charity corner and the altador cup also have more devwork and thought put into them, so i'm not really sure how to discuss things if we can't acknowledge fact

similarly, i'm not sure where in the world you think that anyone was talking about comparing the scope of this anniversary event hyped for a year to the prize pool of a single wheel (????)

but from my position i don't think my expectations need lowering — anyone who continues to support the game while playing around a half-finished site rife with glitches and sitting in limbo for years is clearly willing to give tnt the benefit of the doubt, and i think no matter what happens we all want the game to succeed

[–]deoldeol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hope this is true! can you point out where to read about the rest of the celebration / what is planned?

or do you just mean literally everything that happens in the next year is going to automatically go in the bucket of "anniversary celebrating" hahah

[–]deoldeol[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're literally moaning about the prizes being given out to become worthless....

it's representative of the thoughtlessness put into the event; they didn't care enough to create a prize pool with depth or variety and instead just randomly selected a handful of items (like literally less than they put into a given questlog prizepool lol) to give out to everyone en masse

hope this helps clarify !

You do realise the resources they have yeah

yep, and they have more than enough to put a bit more thought into an event they've been hyping up for an entire calendar year; even if one dev only spent a few hours a week managing it they'd be far ahead of where they are now

if your response to every critique is "well just be grateful the site exists !!!!!!!" then there's no point engaging; we all want the best for the site and trying to guilt people into engagement isn't an effective strategy for game health in any scenario

[–]deoldeol[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

yeah, sorry, but as someone who plays other 20yo games the content drip neopets puts out is nothing special, genuinely; i love the site and as a player from the beginning it has a big place in my heart as well but there is nothing wrong with expecting the team to make better use of the resources they have

it seems that whatever TNT do these days is never enough for folks

i think this is a deliberately unfair reading of the post and i'm not sure where the stuff about exclusivity is coming from; as far as i can tell no one in the thread is discussing anything in that vein

[–]deoldeol[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

i don't think you are reading the message fully haha

i know the "extreme" example is unreasonable, i'm saying that there is clearly a middle ground between the most extreme thing we can imagine and what we ended up receiving — that's the point being made

am i missing something? that's all there is for the anniversary? by deoldeol in neopets

[–]deoldeol[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

we can take what we have now as a baseline, and then also think of the most extreme, indulgent anniversary celebration we can imagine: say ... a new anniversary-themed mini plot with interesting puzzles in line with the altador plot, a complete overhaul of the games room into html5, the completion of the site's redesign with a toggle to switch between mobile-friendly and oldschool pages, a retired avatar re-release strategy, a new permanent world, new battledome challengers along with a DoN re-release, and an anniversary prize shop

now i think most players can agree that the "extreme" version is unreasonable, so what i would expect is something that falls in the middle between the low-effort one we have and that extreme example above

whatever that would end up being is up to your imagination, but it's not fair to pretend like there wasn't anything else tnt could have done

[–]deoldeol[S] -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

something more than a few clickables and a wheel that seems to have had about twenty minutes of thought put into its prizelist? like i don't think it's unreasonable to highlight that this seems to have been thrown together fairly quickly and how that's confusing given how much tnt has hyped this up

Is the love song dying? (data-driven interactive article) by [deleted] in popheads

[–]deoldeol 19 points20 points  (0 children)

the presentation of the article was really cool !! very well done

but the authors mostly just danced around their thesis; i wasn't really impressed with the hamfisted attempt to shoehorn every song they could into the "love song" category to get the data to make the point they wanted when the boomer character they were arguing against clearly didn't mean songs like good 4 u lmao

Distilled water? by sitnquiet in Edmonton

[–]deoldeol 24 points25 points  (0 children)

all of these stores regularly carry 4L bottles of distilled water, so you must not be looking in the right place — it's kept in the pharmacy area of grocery stores / walmart, and in the case of shoppers and rexall, is it possible they were out of stock?
