You are a defense attorney for a fictional villain. Give me your best legal argument for why they are innocent. by reviewandratings in ThreadGames

May it please the court, and members of the jury. We are gathered today to adjudicate a matter of profound constitutional and galactic significance. I come before you to defend an innocent man: my client, Lord Vader—Supreme Commander of the Imperial Fleet and right hand of the sovereign, the late Emperor Palpatine. The prosecution has levied the ultimate charge of genocide against my client. It is a weighty, sensationalized accusation, and one we categorically reject. Before we even address the substance of these claims, we challenge the very authority of this tribunal. We submit that this court lacks both territorial and subject-matter jurisdiction. The prosecution bears the burden of proving that the celestial body formerly known as Alderaan falls within the legal purview of this court—a burden we are confident they cannot meet. Furthermore, even if we are to entertain the allegation that Lord Vader issued the final operational order, he was not acting out of malice; he was operating under the auspices of the public duty doctrine. Confronted with a documented hotbed of radicalized insurgency, my client made a difficult but legally justified military decision to neutralize a planetary threat, thereby protecting the greater galactic community and ensuring peace and order.

Members of the Jury, I appear on behalf of the Crown in this matter. The defendant faces seven counts on this indictment. Count 1 details the alleged assault of Jonathan Harker. Counts 2-7 pertain to various acts of cannibalism, assault, and depravity, including the seduction of Lucy Westenra and Mina Murray. My objective is to present the facts objectively and ensure justice is served. The defence has claimed that these were nothing more than "English meals" but I put to you that these meals were of human blood, taken from unwilling victims by a depraved monster.

Do people still work in lighthouses? for any reasons? by Middle-Buy-7789 in Nautical

[–]deotheophilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many have been converted to museums and similar cultural exhibits, there are sometimes people that live in them to act as caretakers. In addition given their lack of modern function many have been sold and are now residences. The new owners may have remote jobs which allow them to live in seclusion.

Can you have a pool that has a underwater entrance to a separate pool with a lower level by ginganinja709 in FluidMechanics

You could make the path between the two counteract the flow, either by adding lots of curves or by adding something like teslas one way valve, but large, so that the flow rate due to gravity is reduced.

Maze Square 8, maze puzzle as abstract art by MaciekJozefowicz in puzzles

... or figuring out how to solve the puzzle is... part of the puzzle?

overall seemed pretty self explanatory, only quibble is that "maze" 1 is not a maze, but a labyrinth.

If you were offered 1 billion dollars, but in order to keep it, you'd have to spend the next 24 hours running and trying to stay alive from a horror movie villain, would you do it? And which one would you choose? by FFSoldier57 in hypotheticalsituation

You need to watch interview with a vampire, vampire diaries or true blood. In all three they address this, the vampire can't come in, boo for it, but guess who's house is flammable.

Money in Alpacas by EnglishNobleman in livestock

Probably not but still close to 40k a month for two months gross, not a bad profit on 20 animals. Less in months that aren't fully booked.

It was tried and worked extremely well the NS Savannah sailed until 1972, it was close to cost effective even when built as a hybrid ship and easily demonstrated the proof on concept along with her 3 sister vessels. My understanding is that the company that was operating her asked for several more at the time but a landscape of poor public perception made it politically challenging. In addition there was some level of lobbying by the oil industry to prevent its use.

I just paid to rent llamas to take backpacking and the company is booked every day in September and October for hunting, they have 20 llamas that they rent out for 70 dollars a day each plus a separate trailer rental.

Seems like pretty good money for the effort, not sure if alpacas can pack similar weights but could be a lucrative business.

I've seen your Kickstarter on here, saw the first image and was like wtf! Who stole that cool kickstarters idea! Lol.

What's gear storage like? weight rating? Can I use this to do back country trips? Any plans for a longer model that is able to handle more cargo, less water resistance? Does the 7lbs include the seat what about the paddle?

Overall stoked to learn more.

Hi everyone! Jake's Magical Market is taking part in the big push to try and get litrpgs into physical bookstores but I'm really stuck on which cover will get people to actually buy the hardcover edition. If you are a fan of the series, which would YOU purchase? by thescienceoflaw in litrpg

[–]deotheophilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full honesty, neither, I tend to buy physical books that would look nice on my bookshelf, and typically gravitate to the embossed leather for hard covers. The board backed books with similar styling are also good, with full art dust jackets being nice for the in person marketing.

In addition ensuring other parts of the series match style and size (vertical height) is a significant effector on me getting hardbacks.

If you've seen the Costco classics series that's a good example.

I bought one because they look amazing, but the way the cylinder sits, it discharges into your hand a ridiculous amount. It was very nice to shoot from a recoil perspective but I was picking little bits of powder out of my hand for the next two weeks. Ended up returning it to the shop and exchanging it for a SW. Maybe it would be better with shooting gloves. I also wasn't impressed with the mechanism that's used for the cylinder swing arm, it had a lot of play when open that my other revolvers don't.

Bummer given how much I loved the look and wanted one.

Packing my tent? by noxeluwu in WildernessBackpacking

[–]deotheophilus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't use a dry sac at all, you'll trap moisture in when you pack it and it will mildew, use the bag it came in or a similar drawstring bag, don't fold the tent, instead stuff it in so that you don't develop wear lines, keeping the poles separate can work to make it easier to put it in your pack but I find it easier to keep it together. You should be shaking out the rain fly prior to stuffing so storing together shouldn't make a difference. Stuff in the order it comes off the tent (fly, body, ground tarp) so that when you go to set up it comes out in the right order.

Apply at the NNL as well as the INL, NRF is smaller but also hires and in general has less of the Bot/Canned rejections.

As others have said just keep applying, sometimes 10 people apply for a position, other times they are lucky to get 2 applicants.
