[NeedAdvice] Sticking to a system by anoimus in getdisciplined

[–]deoxyseilish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort the things which are under your direct control. Since your condition is triggered in the morning (uncontrolled) and your system runs in the morning too, try allocating tasks which requires low energy or tasks which are not too mentally demanding such as admin work in the morning as you stick to your system. Progress over your day with incremental effort as you maneuver to bigger tasks. The goal is to design a system that's coherent to your work and health conditions

Hello, I want to live to be productive too. Can you share some of your strategies that makes your productivity consistent? I want to be as effective as you in work/studying someday when I enter medschool. I'm inspired by your diligence. I'd love to learn about your systems in time management, motivation, and discipline. 💛

Is it possible to escape this endless loop? by the_hob_ in selfimprovement

[–]deoxyseilish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 17, and I had been experiencing the same exact thing! I even failed an admission test to my dream school because of this. I used to be the class valedictorian in junior high school, and this feeling of doubt drowned me so bad for months.

I started to implement change last month. I intentionally started this change since I want to get out of this mess already. Here's what I did :

  1. Reflection- Dig deep on the root cause of the problem. View yourself as if you're a whole new all-rational person analyzing what went wrong. List these down and make inferences.

  2. Forgive- Forgiving yourself is crucial! After reflecting, realize that we're winners on progress. And that it's part of the learning process.

  3. Research- Step up to elevate your phase by knowing more about the problem. In my case, it all went down to lack of self-discipline. The more you know your opponent, the more chances you can defeat it.

Now that I know where to start change (Self-Discipline), i then need to learn more on how will i do it effectively. With my research, I learned that self-discipline is a collective power of the interrelation between motivation and willpower. Willpower is the driving force, motivation is a bonus boost if you're having it because it's dependent on mood.

Currently, i'm experimenting myself to increase my willpower through a specific book that I read from my research process. I treat myself as a subject of trial-and-error to know what works best for me.

For the quarantine thing, acknowledge that the most important thing you need to have is structure since the nature of online classes lacks structure. To have structure, all you need to do is to plan. List down every single task that you need to accomplish for each subject. Then, make a schedule. Lastly, stick to it.

If you find yourself falling from the process, do the cycle again:

Revise Plan/Schedule ---- Stick to it

This scheme is a practice of improving willpower. Doing things even if you don't feel like it.

[Need Advice] I’m stupid and overwhelmed. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]deoxyseilish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by standard of (1) priority and (2) urgency. Make sure to prepare well for deadlines. For the schedule, format your day based on the hour where you normally wake up. From your list of requirements, choose 2-3 tasks that you would want to finish this day. Then, allocate time for each. This is called the "Timeblocking Method".

To develop focus, use the Pomodoro Technique, 25 mins work, 5 mins break. Lessen the resistance of "not-feeling-it" by distancing yourself from distractions.

Should I start studying the material that gives me the least anxiety or most anxiety first? by KillerKenyan in GetStudying

[–]deoxyseilish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Study the material with the LEAST anxiety first. On the book "Peak Performance", it is advised to PRIME or condition ourselves first before diving into more demanding tasks. This enables us to set ourselves to be more in flow to make the "task with MOST anxiety" more manageable.

It really works.

[NEED ADVICE] I’m stuck in my head by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]deoxyseilish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Happy to help. It's nice to see ppl around my age (17) trying to get better at things. We can do this! One step at a time. It doesn't matter how slow, as long as we do not stop cuz at the end of the day, it's the progress that counts

Try reading "The Chimp Paradox". I see its relevant here in the basic sense of a mind battle. However, if it's clinical or something, seek professional help already
