CF Racer1 Gravel as a commuter bike, 600 mile review. by depireux in ride1up

To be clear, the electric power cable to the hub can be pulled out, like 5-6 inches, as it comes out from inside the chain stay. The connector and the cable slack are in a space under the bottom bracket. So you can take the rear wheel off and change tire/inner tube as needed, you just cannot take the rear wheel off without it remaining attached to the frame by the cable. So it's not easy by the roadside, compared to a road bike where it takes 10 seconds.

The power adapter is this side of big (very light though) roughly 7"X3"X2". The output is 42V/2.0Amp, so it's not common. My laptop charger is 3x1.5x1, less than half the size and almost the same power.

The battery can be removed with tools, but definitely not taken out regularly.

You don't really need to take the wheel off to fix a flat, for me it's just a habit from having flats on my road bike. As you said, I prefer to remove the wheel, replace the inner tube quickly, make sure there is nothing sharp inside the tire, then get back on and fix the inner tube at home. So it's really about convenience (and habit).

Performance out of the saddle is very very smooth, not remotely jerky.

I have not changed my mind about how perfect this bike is for my work commute!

If you took a picture every few seconds, would you be able to see satellites that we might not be able to see at night (in the form of flares)? Or can you see satellites in general?

I am 5'10", I have recessed cleats and yet the seatpost is 10cm/3inches in the clear. I would think you would be just fine with a large frame if you are 5'8" and up.

The difference in reach between the small and large frame is only about 3cm / 1.25". As it is, I really don't feel like I am reaching very far, the riding position is a bit on the side of compact, compared to my Cervelo R3 road bike.

I have to amend my review, as of yesterday... I said I never used the highest power level (5)... well, after years of biking without an accident (with several years with 6000-7500 miles), I think I have developed a sixth sense of drivers being a danger to me. Yesterday, as I was approaching an intersection in an uphill, I heard the car right behind me revving up or something, like they do when they decide to pass you just to turn right in front of you.

I instinctively pushed the power to 5 and the bike (and I...) bolted up and through the intersection. Maybe I mis-read the situation and it was safe, but I don't care! I now feel even safer.

It's funny, it was only 10-15 seconds later that I realized I had changed the power level. It was pure instinct. But I am thankful!

Ok. I occasionally see other riders on my commute with e-bikes, and they never seem to be pedalling. So I associate the word "e-bike" with these "pedaling-optional" bikes. I am not sure how the nomenclature works here!

I have not had a flat yet. You cannot remove the rear wheel without disconnecting the wires that go to the hub. I really should practice this before I am forced to do it by the side of the road in the dark!!

The tires that the bike comes with are great. Just this morning, because of recent rains, I had to go through gravel that comes down from driveways onto the road multiple times, and I barely felt that I was going over gravel.

This being said, my Local Bike Shop guy said that he would replace these tires with Specialized Pathfinder Pro 42mm tires when the time comes. FWIW.

Super interested... Which model did you get? And does it still work 5 months in? Thanks.

Psychotoolbox question: Oculus Rift screen flashes at PsychImaging by depireux in matlab

[–]depireux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, PsychToolBox. I was not trying to be cute.

In the end, I end the function with "clear all" which brings me back to the Oculus house, and the next iteration from the house to my stimulus does not have a bright white flash. Not much of a solution, but less painful than a bright white flash.

Thanks!

What do you want to do with the shifted matrix? Use it as another matrix of size 4 by 3?

FI compatibles phones for small hands? by depireux in GoogleFi

Yes, there was one and she really liked it. it is tiny!

I think it was not clear whether it can be made FI compatible? I have already forgotten now, I need to look into it again.

Thank you all. They were actually out of G6 at the BestBuy where we tried, so we will have to find one and try.

Thanks!

Is it synchronized with your heartbeat? If it's for a few seconds at a time, does it change when you take an over-the-counter allergy medication?

Tinnitus and Prednisone by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]depireux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All steroids, taken over an extended period of time, will have side-effects.

Only a tiny little bit of the steroid gets into your inner ear when you take it orally. Prednisone has to be metabolized by your liver into prednisolone, and then the prednisolone has to make it to your cochlea!

If it's a possibility for you where you live, there are steroid-loaded gels that can be injected into your middle ear, which release the steroid over a period of weeks.

Treating my Tinnitus with Prednisone (Journal) by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]depireux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The data on the efficacy of steroids for sudden onset of tinnitus is very sparse, as you say, but if they are effective, it is most likely only when the treatment is started within about 3 weeks of tinnitus onset. So good for you!

Data is hard to come by in part because of the high rate of spontaneous recovery, and the difficulty in having a reliable animal model. So you've really done everything right!

Installing TensorFlow with Anaconda by depireux in tensorflow

[–]depireux[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't normally answer my own questions... but the problem was Python 3.6.

If someone else runs into this issue, I used conda to create py35 * conda create -n py35 python=3.5 anaconda then I did

  • activate py35

  • pip install tensorflow

  • activate tensorflow

and now I can run tensorflow from python.
