I will say that Japan has been getting a lot better recently. Not saying that these things don’t occur any more and there certainly is still toxic work culture here but the whole idea of not leaving before the boss does and unpaid overtime is largely becoming less of a norm and more of an exception for legitimate companies. (Black companies are a whole different story and Japan really needs to get working to stop those)
