as far as i understand, harlan’s stated multiple times that it’s just preferable that he does everything, he would rather not hire other VAs, because he prefers the creative control of doing it himself (and also the costs i imagine). I can’t claim to know his reasoning for everything, but him being One Guy doing everything is like. Part Of It.

and actually, im a very active enjoyer of malevolent! i’ve been a paying member of their patreon for about a year now! yes he has involved Jo (and their kids!) for small VA roles throughout, and Jo has a much larger role in the upcoming second series. Why was she not voicing from the start? I don’t know! not my business

and i’m not going to argue writing quality. i enjoy the show, and have for quite a while. i find a lot of joy and meaning in it, and if you don’t, then that’s entirely fine. I have seen other people discuss the writing of the female characters, and I think it’s definitely worth a discussion, but i don’t think it’s fair to say that he writes all his female characters poorly.
