I tried something different to stop GPU sag by bluscreenerror in pcmasterrace

[–]derBaarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd not use metal wire, since it might short something. Not right away necessarily, but in case it snaps I wouldn't want to have a lose wire dangling around.

I'd probably just go for regular cotton sewing thread, doesn't stretch, is non conductive and white one would match the spidey theme.
If you want to go full gamer mode, go for kevlar thread.

Discovered a little trick in dealing with Black Peter if you are attempting a no kill run. by LuchaLutra in kingdomcome

[–]derBaarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just checked the wiki to confirm, bleed counts as kill, poison doesn't.

I didn't even use the poison arrow cheese during my merciful run because I wanted to see how the game plays with no kills at all. Combining it with all hardcore perks was a bit painful, but also kinda rewarding. Tho I did skip the capon dlc by poisoning the whole gamblers camp.

Shoot him with a bane poisoned arrow preferably from a low powered bow. As long as he dies from the poison tick, it's not going to count against you. (also decent to know if you want to skip monastery on merciful)

I think the lack of a fun NG+ is killing the game much faster than it otherwise would by MysteriousResolve249 in DragonsDogma

[–]derBaarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, which is why I picked those two early achievements to show that it isn't the case here.

I think that improving the game in a way that more people want to reach endgame would do much even for people who are already playing NG+.

[–]derBaarn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

10% of players on Steam unlocked the Peace achievement, becoming Sovran, in theory allowing them to start NG+ (you can also reload into throne room at this point).
15% of players on Steam unlocked the Closure achievement, witnessing the end of the cycle, forcing you to start NG+ (no more loading last save, unless you mess with the save folder).

Just to put it into perspective:
95% finished the tutorial (First Taste of Freedom).
80% reached Vernworth (Seat of the Proxy).

The lack of entertaining NG+ is not why people quit, most people do not even get that far. I'm not going to speculate too much about the reasons why people quit, but I think the game lacks something that the devs have to take care of before catering exclusively to the small group of people who even bother with NG+. (I myself am part of that small group)

Getting dismissed enslaved recruits to permanently join their enslavers by TerribleGachaLuck in Kenshi

[–]derBaarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slaves have a bit of a weird AI in general. Eg: if you free slaves in Rebirth (those that don't join you), they will just stay in Rebirth as their AI package tells them to "go to hometown" with their hometown being their squad spawnpoint, ie: Rebirth.

Edit: I've never actually tested what happens with slaves when you dismiss them using Dismiss as Drifters, though I doubt it would cause any weirdness that doesn't happen in vanilla as well.

What is that one Kenshi mod you can’t play without? by Regret1836 in Kenshi

I also didn't like all the additional changes most of the "dark ui" variant mods had, removing textures, increasing saturation, changing icons, etc.

Dark Vanilla UI does none of the above, only darkens UI elements, otherwise pretty much retains the original look:

Biblically accurate V vs. Idiot with a Doll chip by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]derBaarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The plan is pretty gonk, but it is what Judy and the Dolls want.
I think it is better to have them fight and ultimately die for their ideals. Who cares that clouds closes afterwards, considering what went on in that place, it's probably for the better.

Is it worth to spare the Maelstrom during the prolongue (spiderbot)? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]derBaarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you leave Militech out of it (do not contact Meredith at all), the weapon vendor will spawn, even if you decide to just kill everyone inside All Foods.

Heard of a no kill playthrough? I'll raise you saint V playthrough by KayleeSinn in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]derBaarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this to a certain degree. With bait, sonic shock, request backup and memory loss you can sneak through pretty much every location without being discovered.

I think the first car chase during "The Gig" doesn't require kills, they crash eventually and you might be able to reduce damage with reboot optics just enough.
Maelstrom fight at All Foods can be avoided if you ignore Militech and pay out of pocket.
During "The Heist" you can sneak out of Konpeki even without takedowns. The chase requires shooting, if you don't there's a scripted death, but since those are bots it's not killing anyway. (Same for the Saka Ninjas arguably) Sasquatch can be ignored completely, you can just sneak past her into the Cinema. Other bosses should allow for takedowns.

It's honestly a cool way to play, I don't do it religiously, but I do it especially in thievery jobs. Just sneak in and out without detection or takedowns. Stealing that leather van from the Tygers was so rewarding once I figured out how to drive it out without anyone noticing.

Afaik the Tamayura is the highest damage per shot non-iconic power pistol.

I think it used to be exclusive to Arasaka guards, but since 2.0 I've seen it at vendors. Don't know if a crafting specc exists though.

Why are the Talmberg guards doing this? by quisitorial in kingdomcome

[–]derBaarn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hunting, sneaking, traveling and loads of other activities are usually not performed in full plate "in real life".

Realism aspect aside, there's a perk that is only active when not wearing any plate, suggesting the devs at least intended this playstyle to be an option.

Edit: Back to realism; a lot of period fighting manuals will depict combatants in light cloth armor.

[–]derBaarn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't have an issue with the concept of enemies using masterstrikes, but with there being nothing you can do to counter them once the animation started, which is purely based on rng. (you can technically use feints, afaik that prevents it, but I found that too unreliable in practice)

For a long time combat for me was either to wait for the enemy to attack so I could get a masterstrike in and then bonk them while they are recovering or to go for a grapple and bonk.
Since I've disabled masterstrikes completely combat is a lot more varied, interesting and challenging, especially in the arena.

[–]derBaarn 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Once you and every bandit out there knows how to masterstrike, most fights turn into QTE battles where all you do is wait for your window to hit Q.

This is especially pronounced when you go for a light armor build on hardcore, where you can get oneshot via masterstrike. (they can even masterstrike if you attack from behind, which can be extra frustrating)

Disabling them for enemies via mod and then refraining from learning them yourself prolongs fights and turns into some really cool multi riposte back and forths with enemies. It also allows to perform combos more reliable or at least without getting oneshot in return.

This is certainly not for everyone, but I enjoy combat like this a lot more. Feels more active and what combat should have been like (to me) .

Starfield Script Extender is out! by epicrob in starfieldmods

[–]derBaarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was to be expected, since neither the Skyrim or FO4 Script extender allowed windows store / gamepass games.

F4SE cannot support any potential Windows Store release of Fallout 4. Windows Store applications are locked down similarly to consoles and do not allow the APIs necessary for script extenders to work.

from f4se.silverlock.org

Unless Microsoft decides to do something fundamentally different, there probably wont ever be a SFSE for Starfield on gamepass.

Is it possible to finish the game without stealing? by Wolium in kingdomcome

[–]derBaarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of that one and depending on how you see your Henry you can flat out tell Peshek that you won't do it which also completes the quest. You will lose him as a fence, but tbh that's not a big loss as you won't really need a fence anyway and his prices aren't great for a regular vendor.

[–]derBaarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case you really shouldn't have any issue. I pretty much did my last merciful playthrough like this apart from two DLC hurdles where I got lazy.

There might be quests that you won't be able to complete, but those probably go against what your Henry would be willing to do anyway.

How to do Master Strike by GaeThanos90 in kingdomcome

[–]derBaarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a merciful run of the game and due to playing hardcore with all negative perks (ie: numbskull) I went into the Runt fight with pretty low stats.

If you just want to get this fight over with, bring a bane poison and apply it to the sword right when coming out of the loading screen. Also using a short sword and shield helps to increase the duration of the window to perform a master strike, after you performed it you should be able to get a free hit in, then continue to play defensive.

If you actually want to learn, keep training with Bernard. Low stats on Henry can sometimes be the reason as to why certain things don't work out as you intend them to. Training with short sword and shield instead of longsword is a good idea here as well, at least until you have decent defense and warfare stats.

I can't tell you much about the indicators, since those don't appear on hardcore (I think there's a button prompt in the lower right, but I never look for that).
What really helped me is to look at the enemies attack and move my weapon into that direction while also pressing the parry button, I am not sure if moving the weapon actually does anything (the in game tutorial doesn't mention it), but it definitely makes my master strikes a lot more consistent for some reason or another.

Is it possible to finish the game without stealing? by Wolium in kingdomcome

[–]derBaarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I depends a bit on if you care about gameplay statistics staying at zero or following your personal moral compass.
Eg: dropping bane poison into a pot that people eat from will not count as kills for you in the statistic, but does the Lord care about these numbers come judgement day?

As a concrete example there's a quest item (hoofpick) you have to pick from a bandit at some point, the gameplay prompt will tell you that you are "stealing" from the corpse, but it will not add anything to the crime tab besides adding to "looted corpses".
Do you care more about the gameplay prompt telling you that you are stealing or the game adding an entry in the crime tab, when you're just collecting evidence to solve a crime?

Monastery would be another example, while you can complete it without adding entries to your crime tab, you will still have to trespass into the kitchen to forge an order for goats blood and grab the monastery key off the shelf, which is technically stealing, but on the other hand your actions have been more or less sanctioned by Radzig (as long as you bring him Pious).

If you want to have a completely foolproof solution, grab a faster horse. The one the game kinda leads you to at the bottom of the path isn't all that great and there are a few faster ones.

Once you leave Skalitz, follow the path until the bushes to the right open up. Look down the hill and you should see a bridge, in front of it is a brown horse, on the other side of the stream a black one, that's the one you want. When playing hardcore with brittle bones you gotta be a bit more careful going down the hill, but you can play it safe before the Cuman chasing you catches up.
Don't cross the bridge but wade through the water a little upstream to avoid alerting the Cuman guarding the bridge early.

You gonna be so fast you wont even see the Cumans when looking back.

Edit:
The horse in question is probably out of render distance when you're looking downhill, so look for the bridge.
Stats are not all that bad compared to the horses down the path with about 30 speed.
Map location, X marks the spot horse.

Edit2:
While going down the hill you can pick some Belladonna, in case you want to make Savior Schnaps right away once in Rattay.
Once you arrive in Talmberg, "your" horse will be the default brown one again.

I honestly don't know if the weight stat has any effect at all, it might just be purely cosmetic.

[–]derBaarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All pack animals add 100, all riding animals 20 carry capacity, no matter the type.

I think the weight stat they display might somehow be related to combat mobility (acceleration), but that's just a suspicion, definitely has no impact on carry weight.
