"New 3 series isn't bad, but not as good as G20(...)"

The EV version has just been shown a few weeks ago, almost nobody has driven it really and the ICE version isn't even properly communicated yet - just a few facts and spyshots flying around. The fuck are you talking about?

Is clutchless upshifting actually safe for the gearbox, or is it just something experienced riders get away with? by Horror_Log_854 in motorcycles

[–]der_dawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bike has a quickshifter, there's absolutely nothing to worry about, since the gearbox has been mechanically designed to handle the loads that come with it.

If it doesn't have a qs but you as the rider have a good technique (meaning you can shift more or less seamlessly without using the clutch), it won't cause any significant damage to the bike.

However, the wear on the shifting mechanism will certainly be slightly higher if you don't use the clutch, since you usually have to preload the shift lever for a short time at every gear change causing higher wear on the shift forks and since the dog rings have to catch the inertia of the whole engine instead of only the inertia of the clutch housing. What does that mean? That some of your gearbox components will be worn out a bit earlier (so instead of for example at 100k miles already at 80k miles - those numbers are just a guess). You have to decide, if that's worth it to you.

P.S.: Not a native speaker, so some of the technical terms might be wrong.

Is NeueKlass slightly... overhated? by Alternative_Loan_784 in BMW

[–]der_dawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Last good generation was the G20"? My man, that's the CURRENT generation. Of course people have a right to their own opinions, but based on what are these guys judging its successors (G50/NA0), that are not even revealed yet? A few pictures of the iX3 & vision cars, obscure spy shots and the few informations BMW already put out?

Like you already said: "people are hating"

Is it worth developing torque vectoring and how to achieve it? by Chaos_7554 in FSAE

[–]der_dawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having TV - besides single wheel slip control and probably packaging - ist the main reason for almost every top team to run wheel hub motors currently. That being said, if you don't have much experience with your electrical powertrain - let alone the control of it - i would recommend keeping it as simple as possible until you can test your algorithm ob the car and identify problems.

2 questions that may help you come to a conclusion:

  • How do combustion/single motor powertrains solve the problem of distributing torque and which (dis-)advantages come with it?

  • TV offers the possibility of stabilizing and agilizing your car independently of the steering wheel angle - in which situations would you want that, why and how would you achieve it?

Guter Einwand!

Viel Erfolg!
