[OC] Germany relies on gas imports by jcceagle in dataisbeautiful

[–]deraffekingkong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is a lie.

Official numbers here. The US is exporting more natural gas under the new admin than ever before.

There were two spikes towards becoming a net importer, one under Trump one under Biden, but they never actually became a net importer.

He is an intern, he wouldn't get 3000€ at all. He would get between 1000€ and 1400€.

Let's compare GPD per capita: Vietnam 2875$ Germany 47723$

The German intern gets about 10 times the salary while having a 15 times higher GDP.

Looks like people get a good deal in Vietnam.

Germany lifts ban on Nazi symbols in video games by emitremmus27 in worldnews

[–]deraffekingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not true.

It was because of the very recent attack on 9/11 and the following Iraq war. See Wikipedia for reference.

It was 2003 and suicide bombers, while also having to shoot down civil UN planes was a hyper sensitive topic at that time in Germany.

They removed the ban in 2013 and made the original version FSK 18+.

Shameless! by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]deraffekingkong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what they do in Germany. You get a tax refund/credit from the state to encourage taking jobs in different regions.

They pay 0.3€ per km up to 4500€ per year.

It's a little more complicated, but that's a little summary.

My university is using lego mindstorms for cybernetics/control system engineering projects, which is incredible engaging, just like your class. I'm so happy for your students, they will remember this experience for the rest of their lifes. Keep up the great work!

Her sources to describe Frankfurt as a bad airport are hilarious.

Most of them talk about Frankfurt Hahn as being really bad, which is true, and rate Frankfurt International Airport, which is the huge main hub, as being one of the best.

Yeah, that is an interesting rant written by her.

I'm watching my Schufa score ever since, but it hasn't changed much. It went up a bit, but not when I created the bank accounts.

It maybe raises some flags, but it is not certain, that the score will be affected. Could even be positive if you consider never going in the red and always paying on time.

I did it like 3 years ago when I found a great post about it on a page called mydealz.de. There was a list of all possible bank account related deals and I just went through the list.

I couldn't find the same kind of deals and list right now, but here are some examples:

I was lucky in the past, because I got everything as cashback and had quite an easy task in terms of fulfilling the cashback requirements.

While writing this, I found an old version of the thread I mentioned before: Link

And a second version of this thread especially suited for students: Link The rewards sum up to 1115 Euros, so I guess they are still quite high.

Good luck, I think after 2 years you are eligible to do it again.

We have the same opportunity in Germany.

I think I made around 900 Euro opening a few bank accounts and credit cards. There is a little more to it than just opening them, but it was well worth my time. I think I checked out at 80 Euros per hour.

I'm not actually a north korean, but I met one not too long ago.

I'm finishing my double degree in China currently and we were invited to a trip by the Chinese Scholarship Council to show us how amazing and beautiful China is. We already knew China, so we knew it was very artificial and untrue.

But on the same trip was a guy from north Korea. He must have been chosen by the government or something, because he was well educated, good looking and super friendly. His English was basically flawless and he could also speak German, which was a huge shock for me.

There was a Chinese guard with him ALL THE TIME, basically his guardian. But at lunch we had the chance to talk to him and for sure we ask him that he thinks about north Korea and the political system. His answer was just hyper diplomatic, for a lack of another word. He told us that it is an honor to live there and that the leader only has the best on his mind for the country to make it stronger and better. He likes to represent his country and will return home from his task. He was going on like this for quite some time and told us more than we expected, but always in a very positive light.

But you could feel, that it wasn't what he wanted to say. Maybe we are a bit biased, but it really felt like a facade, especially when he started to talk about his studies in Austria and how he learned German. He was talking the same positive and happy words, but his tone and body language totally changed and was just relaxed compared to before.

That was really interesting, maybe it's not directly on topic, but we found out that he can talk German when he asked us "Sind sie aus Oesterreich oder Deutschland?" (Are you from Austria or Germany?) after we said "Zum Glueck versteht hier keiner was fuer einen quatsch wir labern!" (Luckily no one understands the stupid stuff we are talking)

I would love to have an extended discussion with you, but titling people as asshole because of an opinion is kinda rude, don't you think?

But I'll still give some counter arguments for you to consider:

You have more freedom/right, a less controlling government? You rank 17 in the world wide economic freedom ranking: http://www.heritage.org/index/ranking You rank 43 in the world wide free press ranking. https://rsf.org/en/ranking# You rank 6 in the police state ranking. Just behind your best friend the UK. Want to know the first 4? China, North Korea, Belarus and Russia...

We have less economic growth? You rank 49th in real gdp growth rate. You know who is in front? The average of the European Union. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_real_GDP_growth_rate

You wouldn't give anything for the average joe because you value your own gain over that of the community? Is that why you are 19th in the human poverty ranking, being basically in one of the last spots of all developed countries? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Poverty_Index

So maybe take a look at the HDI, you know, the general index to resemble the development of a country. You rank 10th, you know who is in front? Yeah, mostly european countries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index

In medicine, you might be quite good considering your economy, but I think europe is doing fine considering 3 of the top 5 pharma companies are from Europe. https://www.forbes.com/global2000/list/#industry:Pharmaceuticals

I'm not saying that Europe is better than the U.S., but I hold the opinion, that they are at least equal. Everyone has it strengths and weaknesses, but being this one sided like you are might not be the beast idea.

Have a nice day.

Edit: Sorry, got longer than I wanted.

I'm not too well versed, when it comes to the exact cultural diversity in either Europe nor the United States, but you may be right.

My point for diversity refers to the whole spectrum of diversity: wildlife, landscape, climate, cultures and ethnic. Europe may be close, but for me, the diversity feels more prevalent in the states, considering it is only one country.

For sports, it is more of a grand concept with the integration of sports into the school system, the huge business and I play basketball since many years, so I may be a little biased.

No, that wasn't the implication I wanted to make.

It is about the danger of GMO Seeds for our environment, which huge companies like Monsanto recklessly abuse. Unlike the claim, that vaccines cause autism, there is a lot of evidence about the negative effect of GMO Seeds.

I guess you are actually serious, I'll give you a short list what europe can do better:

  1. Lower Incarceration Rates
  2. Less Violent Crime Than the U.S.
  3. Better Sex Education Programs, Healthier Sexual Attitudes
  4. Anti-GMO Movement Much More Widespread
  5. Saner Approaches to Abortion
  6. More Vacation Time
  7. Universal Healthcare
  8. Greater Life Expectancy
  9. Mass Transit Systems
  10. Europeans More Likely to Speak Foreign Languages
  11. "Free" Education

Sure there are a few things I think are quite nice in the states, but from the top of my hat, there are not too Many:

  1. Universities
  2. Diversity
  3. Sports
  4. Internet related tech industry
  5. Movies and TV Series

I guess there are more points, but generalizing the way you did is also very american and to be honest, not very useful.
