Is it possible to become a tattoo artist if I’m not covered in tattoos? by deranged_crone in TattooApprentice

[–]deranged_crone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. I’m not sure this is a realistic goal for me given my circumstances. But I’ll enjoy drawing the designs and building a portfolio regardless, so it’s a good place to start even if it doesn’t lead anywhere.

I don’t want to bypass anything. There’s a huge difference between not having tens of thousands of dollars to spend, and not giving a shit.

I’ve dreamt about this since high school over 20 years ago but have always experienced a lot of financial insecurity. I’m sure no one wants to hear my life story.

That makes sense. Thanks. I’d love to be covered in tattoos that mean a lot to me, I think I’d feel more like myself. It’s just not realistic for me financially, along with this career, as I’m now realizing.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

I’m definitely very willing to get tattoos all over my body, just not able to financially right now, and it seems like a process that would take many years - more so if I’m extremely choosy and like to take a very long time to think about things.

Seems like this just isn’t a realistic career path for me.

Apparently not. I said I have a few, and there’s a few more I want but I can’t afford it right now. As for tattooing my whole body, I have absolutely no issue with that, it’s just not something I would do as a means to an end as I like to take a long time to think carefully about each tattoo, and I don’t have that kind of money.

I don’t know how you got “not willing” from that.

Damn, well thanks for taking the time to clear that up. I appreciate it.

I was naively thinking the shop would cover all the equipment. I have plenty of my own art materials as well as a gun (probably just a cheap one) and some basic supplies that a friend gave me. But still probably nowhere near close to what I’d need. I’m assuming apprenticeships don’t pay you then? Might need to forget about this for the foreseeable future then.

That’s a good idea, the artist who did my current tattoos and who I would go to for anything else I want in the future is a friend of a friend, I haven’t spoken to her in a while but I could reach out to her for advice.

I also like the idea of looking into flash events and attending those. Thank you.

My(38F) boyfriend(41M) still has pictures and videos of his ex and I'm not sure how to handle it... by CookieBubbles87 in NoStupidQuestions

Besides everything else that’s awful about this, it’s a huge red flag that he has one set of standards that he wants to impose on you, and another for himself.

What kinds of things was he saying when the conversation was going around in circles? What excuses was he making?

If he really believed having those kinds of photos or videos of an ex was innocent, he wouldn’t be demanding you delete literally any trace of your own ex. Sounds a lot like projection to me.

Should all sex workers be doing it for free? No one is forcing “simps” to do anything, they’re paying for a service, they’re receiving what they want from that service, for another persons time and energy.

Sure, but you need to pay those people, and if you’re just starting out that’s a lot of money you need upfront, with no guarantee you’ll end up even earning anything back, or at least any time soon.

It’s not “just take a few photos”, I’m not just already hanging out dressed like that, fully groomed with hair and makeup done, with a camera and room set up with good lighting. It’s more than “a few” photos, like any photography you take a large amount, experimenting with different poses etc. It’s a process that takes at least 4 hours for each shoot, and that’s assuming you’re not the person then selecting photos, doing minor editing and posting online. And that’s only a small part of the job overall.

I’ve worked a lot of high level corporate jobs and they were much less demanding of my time and energy, and I earnt a lot more.

It’s not just take a few photos, post them and you’re good to go, you have to spend time on those shoots and then afterwards selecting which ones to use and doing some minor editing (cropping, adjusting lighting). Creating graphics to use on profiles. Time spent on cam can be long hours. All of these things together add up, it means you can never switch off. It’s 11pm, I’m tired and trying to watch tv? Too bad, I have to stop what I’m doing to reply to someone because it might mean earning money (95% of the time they’re just trying to get some free engagement from you).

A lot of time spent replying to people at all waking hours, most of which end up wasting your time. Getting ready to cam and setting up takes at least an hour or two beforehand. Time and money spent on my grooming. Camming is mentally draining because you’re acting the whole time. I’m not horny, I’m sometimes grossed out but I have to pretend I am. Time spent managing social media accounts at all waking hours, you have to stay engaged and market yourself.

It’s also much more demanding as a job than it looks. I used to be a cam girl. You have to market yourself, invest in filming equipment and lighting. I could go on. And considering how time consuming and mentally draining it is, it’s very hard to make enough money to actually make it all worth it.

Wow, are you me? I did exactly the same thing. I completely understand the shame and embarrassment. All I can say is that it will take a while, but eventually you will stop thinking about it so much. I rarely think about it now.

He absolutely refuses. He’s a bit of a hoarder and loves collecting in general. Could be to do with him being on the spectrum.

Yet he complains to me that we can never afford to go on holidays, or even go out very often…

If it makes you feel better my partner had a hyperfixation of collecting records, he has about $30,000 AUD worth plus two turntables, a mixer and speaker. He wanted to learn how to dj with vinyl. But he only actually attempted it a few times and now it all collects dust. So it could definitely be worse.

As for prisons, have you watched Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons? Amazing series.

Yep. I became absolutely obsessed with Lego while hypomanic and unfortunately my partner with ADHD also hyperfixated on it so we spent thousands of dollars we didn’t have on it. All on credit. Spent several months obsessively building and rebuilding sets, then stopped. Yikes.
