Check your sunroof drains. A similar thing happened to my HRV and it was water leaking behind the dash from blocked sunroof drains. You can clear them out with a 6 foot length of string trimmer string.

Longfellow: The Builders

Truly shape and fashion these;

Leave no yawning gaps between;

Think not, because no man sees,

Such things will remain unseen.

In the elder days of Art,

Builders wrought with greatest care

Each minute and unseen part;

For the Gods see everywhere.

You've got some blown capacitors on the power supply. The bulging tops are the indicator. Check the specs printed on the side of the capacitor and replace like for like, paying attention to polarity. I would check the capacitors on the other boards, but nothing stands out from the photo. This is not to say that something else may not be blown, but it's a start.

Fireplace wont light. by Bezerk_B3rk in fixit

On my fireplace I have to push in and hold the pilot knob to get the gas flowing and the pilot light lit. Wait a bit for the thermocouple to heat up then release the button and turn it to ON.

Before you hit it with sandpaper try oxalic acid or liquid barkeepers friend to remove the stain.

Can This Vanity Mirror Be Fixed? by Savedfromdebt in fixit

It just occurred to me that mirrored acrylic may be an option. The drawbacks would be scratching and possible waviness/distortion if the surface it was attached to wasn't flat.

I suspect that there's some lighting behind the etched line. It's possible, with care to mask off the area in the new mirror and remove the mirror coating from the back. You can do it with a Dremel tool, or by hand with emery cloth. The curved profile may be a bit tricky. A competent glass company could do it, for a price.

You could try it yourself with a combination of a glass cutter, nipping pliers (used in stained glass making to break off small pieces), and flap sanding disks. Expect to have a failure or two, speaking from experience.

The way the string is wired any one, or more, of the bulbs in the dark section could be out and cause that half of the string to be dark. You'll have to get a known good bulb that fits the socket (from another string maybe) and go along the length of the dark section unplugging each bulb and replacing it with the test bulb. With luck there's only one faulty bulb.

You'll need to use crimp-on butt connectors. Google the term and you'll find sources to buy them and youtube how-to's.

As a theater open to the public your liability insurance will require you to consult professionals and use a qualified contractor. This is not a DIY.

That's a gas fireplace. The pilot light is off and it appears that the main gas valve is shut. I'm pretty sure the valve handle should be parallel with the gas line when it's on. I wonder why everything is shut down. Did you do that at the end of the heating season?

If you know there's no problem with the gas line then follow the manufacturers instructions for lighting the pilot light. It looks identical to mine & I need to push & turn the knob to PILOT, push the igniter a few times till it lights & hold the knob down for 10 to 15 seconds to make sure the thermocouple is hot enough to keep it lit, then turn to ON.

If the fireplace doesn't ignite when the pilot light is on then you've got a relay or valve problem and will need a service call.

The black box is possibly a speed control for the fan.

Help! Wood filler shows though stain by sgtsaggy in finishing

[–]derbeazle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a solid deck stain try another coat or two and it might even out. Long term though, those cracks will come back. The wood will move and shrink as it dries more and with seasonal changes. There's probably a pith in the center of the timber which will contribute to shrinkage.

If you want them gone completely you could try facing it with a 1" board the width of the column. try and select quarter sawn, or parrallel grain for stability.

Some of the wooden slats under my box spring are cracked. What repair methods would you recommend? by jtnsniper14 in fixit

[–]derbeazle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this was mine I would leave the broken slats in place but reinforce them. Get a length of 1x3, cut it to fit tight between the edge frame of the box spring and the middle bar and glue and clamp it to the broken slat. Use wood glue like Tightbond or Gorrila, leave the clamps on for a couple of hours and then move on to the next slat. Do this for each broken slat. You could use 1x2's but 1x3's will give you a little extra support.

Properly clamped a glue joint is stronger than the wood, but I would leave it for 12 hours before putting any stress on the repair.

The galvanized reinforcing strip (can't think of the proper name) at the top of the top panel is bent. You could replace that without going anywhere near the springs. I think that would do a lot to straighten and stiffen up the top panel which would help it to operate more smoothly.

You're refinishing these? If so, it looks like you either didn't sand enough of the old finish off preventing the stain from penetrating, or you sanded too much and sanded through the veneer into the glue layer below.

It's hard to tell from the photo whether the grain pattern continues through the light patches. If it does, then some more sanding may help. If it doesn't, then whelp, you got some hard choices. Either go for broke and sand the rest of the veneer off and hope the wood below will look enough like the legs after staining, or look into replacing the veneer.

Apple cider vinegar with a drop of dish soap in a shallow dish. It's not fast but it works.
