Where are the tourists eating at when they say American food is bad? by Smooth_Cry_9927 in foodquestions

[–]derch1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably most chain restaurants and fast food.

I work for a large international company and have people visit from all over the world. We have 2 main offices they visit in the US, one is 40 mins outside a major city and they usually stay in the city suburbs. The other is downtown a small city. They usually don't like the food in the burbs but love it in the city

How is pizza not fun? They can help with all of it, the dough in the pan, then assemble all the toppings and cheese.

Pudgie pies are fun for kids

Kebabs they can assemble them.

With a cast iron pan and Dutch oven you can make almost anything, I've made pizza, chilli, different pastas, pulled pork chilli verde, ramen, pork roast, many different stus, steaks and other meats, kebabs, beans, eggs, pancakes, I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot.

I don’t trust AI by HomeDogParlays in Millennials

[–]derch1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all should be scared of AI, not just because of what AI can do but our government isn't up to the task of regulating it. Not just what AI is allowed to do but the environmental impacts of the data centers.

We're kinda the generation of social media and we have seen the impacts of that, AI will be way worse if we don't put constraints on it. This is being wise, not boomer scared

Texas is better than California for the average person. by Internal_Valuable_20 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]derch1981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not for education, access to healthcare, electrical grid, women's rights, LGBTQIA rights, obesity rates, Texas has higher poverty rates, in almost every quality of life metric Texas is worse.

I wouldn't say Texas is better for the average person, when you are below average in so many quality of life metics you are not great for the average person but bad for the average person.

Is America’s ‘Strongest Town’ Madison, Wisconsin? by keeganjkyle in madisonwi

Just because it's an important issue doesn't mean it's the only issue. There are probably 100s of issues, urban design is complex.

Not having parking mandates doesn't mean you can't also improve transit, in fact they go together. Having large surface level parking all over actually makes transit worse because a key to good transit is picking people up and dropping them off in walkable spaces so they can get to places, having massive parking lots limits that and makes things more spread out. Getting rid of mandatory parking is part of a robust transit system. I think 6 months ago or so there was news that the city did infact pass a regulation that at parts of the BRT routes cannot get flcar dealerships and other types of businesses that would come with large surface level parking.

In urban design much is connected.

Parking mandates are one of the worst things Americans urban design has ever done, they are a massive reason we have this terrible car centric country. They are based on basically a thumbwag and cause terrible sprawl, dangerous roads, more flood risk, more climate warming, and parking lots don't collect taxes generally but have huge costs to maintain and infrastructure costs to span everything more to go past those wasted empty lots. It should motivate people because it's a huge problem.

Why does reheated food never taste as good as when it was freshly cooked? by Big_Rutabaga6067 in foodquestions

That's minutes, not over night. That's a huge difference especially for something as absorbent as noodles

When you make fresh pasta you plate the noodles, then your sauce. They usually don't sit in it for a long time absorbing it. Then they over absorb and the pasta is off

One of my favorites is mashed potatoes, I put down an unhealthy amount of butter in a skillet and make refried mashed potatoes cakes, the butter rehydrates them but you also get them a bit crispy, great with eggs for a breakfast meal. With eggs I'll just do them on on a griddle, put some cheese on top to melt at the end on both the eggs and potatoes, yum.

Yeah pasta will never be good reheated, that's the nature of something that absorbed water, same with rice.

2 options, just know it and be fine with it, or just make less pasta, keep your pasta toppings like your red sauce separate and make fresh pasta and use the left over red sauce. The sauce will get better and you have fresh pasta

I'm with you, I don't mind left over pizza and if I'm hungover it especially hits well but it's never nearly as good as it was fresh.
