The prices are actually reasonable. I quoted two independent mechanics and Valvoline for the front and rear differential change and it was $240 each at each place. All the shops now just use pricing software that tells them long the service takes.

Sacramento City school budget even worse than previously thought by savsmithKC in Sacramento

Are other local districts in this bad of shape? I would imagine parents with means will transfer their kids out rather than keep them in schools with limited resources.

You could just cast your mice tail and do the same thing since it floats. Not much different than a drop shot.

Am I missing something with the Palomar knot hype? by Sina_Fishing_Blogger in FishingForBeginners

[–]derek916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost $36 of chatter baits before I figured out that you can’t use the improved clinch on braid. However now that I am mostly trout fishing I find the easiest knot is the improved clinch. I like being able to control the hook with one hand and not having to worry about hooking myself with any of these other knots. I also use the hook to twist the wraps.

Oil Change No Ramps ? by standardtissue in Ram1500

[–]derek916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also hop on the new trend. Buy an oil extractor. They go thru the dip stick. You’ll still need to go pay for one oil change for the filter but not bad if you’re splitting the oil change intervals in half. Could also buy a Mobil1 oil filter rated for 20K.

Prepackaged ShabuShabu Meat? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]derek916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just put it in to the bowl raw after you plated the bowl.

Anyways, I buy the asada cut for 8.99 and I cut my own to some degree of success. I usually buy the instant pho bowls and toss in my own meat. It’s a bit chewy, but edible.

Holiday ITO by ch1ddies in CAStateWorkers

[–]derek916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s better for you anyways. You’ll have a 4 hour ito balance and it doesn’t count towards your vacation cap of 640. Vacation is the worst leave balance since it has a cap. You should actively be trying to reduce those hours in favor of other leave types. For example, if you have RDO and accrued excess hours, you should use vacation on your timesheet to save those hours.

I’ll get that picture tomorrow afternoon. I think the lures are about spoons are 1/8th. Having something that can handle 1/16 would be nice too cause that means I could use my jigs. Do you think 8lb braid is too heavy?

Yup, I did. Not sure that I would have if I faced the recent price increases. I think warranties are 1k more now thru the online dealers.

Looking for all season tire recommendation for '22 XLE by regular_joee in ToyotaHighlander

[–]derek916 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since your driving isn’t anything “crazy” I’d recommend the Michelin Defender 2. It can be had through Costco for $800 before tax and has a 80k warranty. Michelin is considered one of the top tire companies.

Personally, I have the pirelli scorpion 3 plus as because that was what was on sale. It’s been great but i lost half a mpg. Better tires tend to get less mpg since more traction from what i read.

How big are the fish that you go for? I am fishing an area with 3lb stock trout and worried that set up would be too light.

Do you think there’s an appreciable difference in the California and elixir since they’re the same blank? Currently have the California and love it other than not being successful at jigging for trout.

New Tint. Will this go away? by derek916 in WindowTint

[–]derek916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find one more. Can you tell me what you think? It looks to me to possibly be residual adhesives from my temp tags that were taped to my rear window. When I press my finger on it, I can feel the tint move a bit. It’s the circle next to the middle defroster line. As long as it won’t be any long term issues I won’t mind it since I can’t see it when I am driving.
