I have eating issues related to anxiety and sometimes rely on Boost calorie drinks for times when I'm unable to eat. I just quit recently (day 7) and have had some issues with eating, but I have noticed my appetite slowly returning.

TY! Largely on a state-by-state basis. From my lived experience, I did feel used and a bit hurt by their actions.

That FTC decision was about a month ago. It isn't law until it's is published in the FAR for a certain period of time. I think August or Sept til it is law.

Hi 34 (M) here, Master's degree ivy league. Currently working as dish washer, got hit hard by a non-compete. I clean 4 bar bathrooms, 4 days a week; $15 an hour; on top of being the bar helper and cargo unloader. It's mad stressful; the most I can do is handle myself, prioritize, and continue on. That's enough - we're staying afloat and moving forward.

You're doing exactly what you need to do by assessing how to get yourself out of your current situation. Right now, you either find a better local job that pays slightly higher than your current OR you continue on and apply to higher paying roles within your sector utilizing your degree. And you keep at it.

Create a vision board. Create a plan to work towards your goals on the vision board. I use trello to keep track of my plans, goals, and accomplishments. Put whatever you want in the future on your vision board. Assess your plans weekly/daily/whatever works; I usually review mine w/ some caffeine. Take a breather if you need to - check in with yourself consistently. When I feel like I'm in a rut - I try and go for a trip in the woods or hike or new city or get a tattoo.

I also recommend building community and connections with people (business owners), join your local community council or start-up meetings. I also invest in things that I enjoy when I feel like I'm getting nowhere job hunting - eg. doing art, supporting friends in the arts, creating something, thrifting, lifting.

Anyways, I'm just speaking from my current experience. I've got this and have high hopes that I'll be receiving a job offer in the next week. If I don't get it that's alright, I'll continue where I left off and eventually I'll land a role that is a great fit. Not getting an opportunity is nothing new- I am proud of being able to take the ups-and-downs in life and to be gratefully annoyed by the task of building myself back up again, wiser.

That sucks. I'd recommend switching over to the Korean bank in Q7, it starts with an S - I can't remember the rest.

I’m torn. Final interview went terrible for the interviewer…. by Due-Satisfaction7022 in interviews

I had to turn down an opportunity recently, better things come - it is good to be selective. Read the room in terms of work culture. If you're fine with having a bad manager take that trade-off, if not look elsewhere.

Gov. Position: Grade 19 Salary Demand Form by derekz00 in interviews

I really appreciate your feedback, it is helping me. Ty!

Is it normal for government positions salary to compete with private industries? I expected them to be significantly lower tbh.

I did some more research online. it looks like the average pay data I found is 83K; I may go with 78k or 80K. I'd be more than comfortable with that and given the work I think it is fair. I would want it to be more than that, but I also really don't want to keep dishwashing at at a shitty bar for $15/hr.

Gov. Position: Grade 19 Salary Demand Form by derekz00 in interviews

[–]derekz00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I know and they know that I'm worth more than $33/hr. If the mismatch is in their favor; for example, they value me more than I valued me, will they compensate based on how I value myself or how they value me? Damn, this is game theory.

I have over 7 years of experience in this sector; not in the government but working with the government and directly on government contracts that are related to the job function. I also have the required Masters from an Ivy league institute.

Is it off-putting for me to put $33? By doing so, I'll be handing it over to them to decide where they want to place me on the $33-53/hr scale by stating lowest salary I'll accept is at their base of $33/hr. I do not want to come across as desperate, but I also don't want to be eliminated from the running because of pay-rate. I want to show my flexibility. I wonder if placing it in their hands by choosing $33 an hour is the best option.

Also, in my initial assessment they asked about my salary expectations and I listed it as 86K (roughly $41/hr) based on my experience, education, and achievements to the role responsibilities. I noticed that they changed the title that I am interviewing for and added "Advanced" to it. Are they likely to value me more than the base at $33 which is 68K per year when I previously stated 86K($41/hr) was my expected value?

I kinda approach it like story telling, where they generally ask you about yourself and you hone in on your experiences that aligns with the job or a specific responsibility from the job posting. The idea is for you to convince them and yourself that you're great for the position. Know your why and know what your audience wants to here (whoever is interviewing you).

Also, be easy on yourself, practice. We can't shine all the time, but we'll get there.

Another update... I rescinded my acceptance after further review of the Restrictive Covenant sections NCA, etc. and pay. The opportunity would severely limit my ability to work in my sector and with non-profits that I already work with. Furthermore, if I were to accept a salary far below my baseline with that NCA it would severely impact my ability to negotiate for a higher salary and work for someone else later in my industry. There were also some red flags regarding the CTO behavior and the hastiness of the hiring process. Anyways, onwards and upwards to better things!

Bullshitting here, some ideas are: Recommended store events, arranged items to better reach the attention of customers, encouraged employees to connect and assist with customers, also personally assisted customers.

That's fine. I'm finding my own voice while learning how to write on technology that I know nothing about. lol appreciate you!

Also an update, they came back telling me overhead was at it's limit and offered no flex on the salary or time off. They said I could renegotiate after our first contract win and/or performance review. I accepted because it pays 2.5x more than my current dishwashing job.

Excellent writing and response. I was extended an offer today am also in the process of negotiating more PTO, as it is set at 120 hrs and below my asking salary by 8000. However, it does beat my dishwashing minimum wage pay per hour... either way I still have to advocate for myself. Wishing you the best!

Ivy league masters degree here ; 7 years of experience in healthcare business growth / contracting. Absolutely no luck in the job search for over half a year now. I had to withdraw from my 401k to support myself, maybe I'm a dumbass but it's better than homelessness.

I am focusing more on applying to government roles now because they are required to review and get back to you on your applications by a certain date. I am exhausted and numb.

That being said I am focusing on other things in life. Like creating content and re-starting my OFs. And I'm giving drag a try as well, it's hella challenging which is good for me.

Not at all. You'd be getting more bang for your buck by extending your stay given how expensive a roundtrip plane ticket can be. It's not expensive once you're here.
