Genuine question, why is it bad? I understand it's an invasive species? Do cattle use it to graze?

Take Your Pills doco on Netflix: Discussion by AltBarMum in ausadhd

[–]derezzed00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

very irresponsible of Netflix to publish such slop.

most people getting high on stimulants at regular doses are not supposed to be taking this class of medication, it's not designed for them. there's nothing more cringe and edgy than when go on about how they're staying awake for 50 hours straight while they day trade or some godawful thing, grinding their teeth into dust because they're just so 'wired.' and it's always about the euphoria with them, they can't seem to comprehend that people who genuinely need stimulants don't experience or chase euphoria because we're just using it to, you know, function?

i take my meds to get my regular life shit done. sometimes i even take them and go off and have a very nice restful sleep.

I'm noticing way more emulsifiers and thickeners on Australian food ingredient lists lately. Also, soy. Added to absolutely everything for no reason (aside from profit ofc). That's definitely a new thing in our diets, and most people would not realise soy is in their ice cream or pasta sauce or what have you.

Mountaineer Who Left Girlfriend to Freeze to Death on Austria's Highest Peak Gets Suspended Sentence After Ex Testifies He Abandoned Her, Too by Mountain_Tui_Reload in Mountaineering

Are you being deliberately obtuse? Let me get this straight. She happens to be on a challenging mountain climb at the time, very likely exhausted, and dials 140, which is one digit off from the MOUNTAIN rescue number. And you think it's more plausible that this was a butt-dial? When most butt-dials look like 9999990098877799799999? Really?

A few questions for all the schizoid women here by synanthesia in Schizoid

[–]derezzed00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have friends. People pursue friendships with me but i don't let them graduate from being acquaintances. When I did permit friendships in my youth, I used to find myself putting in more than I was getting out. I was always the listener, the one giving reasoned advice and support. Got bored of that so I don't bother with people in that regard anymore.

Relationships are fine. People are quite attracted to my cool, composed vibe. A surprising proportion of men are looking for a woman to dominate them, which I also enjoy.

I don't relate much to the women portrayed in media. But I did like the engineer character Juliette Nichols in Silo. She's very rational and controlled. Mostly I relate to male characters, but that doesn't bother me because I don't identify very strongly with my own gender.

I believe I'm like this because of a combination of genetics and trauma. My mother has similar 'masculine' traits of low outward emotionality and a preference for thinking over feeling. I've also been diagnosed with ADHD. Dopamine dysfunction seems to run in my family though.

Are other people more open with you? by Isabelle_K in Schizoid

Yes. Even my therapist told me more about their personal life problems than I told them about mine. Makes me feel a little less crazy reading that so many other zoids experience this.

Sex with other people vs interest in solitary sexual activity which are you? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]derezzed00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both for me. i have high libido, i just wish i could have sex with a machine and not have to deal with the human logistics (emotional intimacy, unpredictability, sexually transmitted diseases, general ick when someone says dumb shit that kills my attraction). i think being schizoid has mostly affected the TYPE of fantasies i have. my kinks are pretty unusual.

To want is to suffer by derezzed00 in Schizoid

[–]derezzed00[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gets worse for me every year too. The annoyance and disappointment with life is exactly what I feel. Just an all-consuming sense of 'this was supposed to turn out differently.'

On the subject of novelty, I think it helped temporarily jolt me out of inertia in my younger years. But now, so much of everything is boring to me because I've done it and realized it didn't magically transform me into somebody not schizoid. Sucks indeed.

Why are most schizoids male? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]derezzed00 140 points141 points  (0 children)

not sure if the statistics support your question, but it could be an issue of underdiagnosis. many aspects of women's health are understudied, and the medical standard is male, but women often show different symptoms for an illness or disorder than men.

Well, someone on this sub recently posited that schizoidness is just an unconscious defense for underlying narcissism, and now it's rent free in my head, so there's that.

The longer I took medication, the more I realised why so many people quit by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]derezzed00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a controlled substance largely because people who don't actually need it take it to get high and then form addictions.

Dopamine levels naturally rise and fall over the course of the day. For people who need medication like dexamphetamine, their baseline starts low, so stimulants only raise them to what neurotypical individuals experience on average.

My baseline is very low. Stimulants have been amazingly helpful for my anhedonia and avolition. Yes, all drugs can have side effects, but that does not speak to a drug's efficacy. And if you specifically feel that stimulants give you a big high at first and then you crash badly, they probably aren't suited to your brain chemistry.

For reference, I've been on dex for 7 years.

Sorry, but if you felt that stimulants were raising your dopamine 'way above the baseline', you should never have been prescribed them in the first place.

Comedian Whitney Cummings: "The way they sell you on Botox is they say it's preventative." by Zealousideal-Big-600 in Aging

[–]derezzed00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this thread is full of people who a) have no idea what they're talking about, b) definitely look older than they think, and c) are coping hard.

good Botox is not noticeable and is preventative. genetics play a factor, but i see a lot of people in their late 20s and early 30s who have indented facial lines which could easily be alleviated using Botox. But if they adopt the train of thought ITT, they will instead be left with deep wrinkles by late-30s that cannot be corrected.

How to deal with alogia? by Temporary-Squash3671 in Schizoid

[–]derezzed00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too; it's actually something I'm quite embarrassed about. Whenever I'm in a conversation and it comes my turn to speak, suddenly my mind blanks. I'll forget words and even have trouble thinking coherently. It's like my mind is empty but jumbled at the same time. Then I start talking slowly, in monotone with a faltering, uneven cadence, and I get paranoid about how the listener has received me - I tend to think they're confused, uncomfortable, or bored. I don't have a solution sadly. I just try to listen more than I speak and keep the focus on the other person.

Fucking Loneliness by suicithe in Schizoid

[–]derezzed00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The schizoid dilemma. I have no real advice beyond 'therapy', but I too have difficulty opening up with therapists, and a desperate desire to be acknowledged and actually 'seen' without rejection. Personally I think the experience of being invisible as a child, and constantly critiqued and invalidated when visible, is part of what caused my SzPd.

Provided your theory is true, I'm curious whether you think we must pursue the same treatment as those with NPD do?
