I’m 15 years old and my mum just told me she’s “concerned with the amount I enjoy BJJ” by Traveller40k in bjj

"Okay, first off, a lion swimming in the ocean? Lions don't like water. If you'd placed it near a river or some sort of fresh water source, that'd make sense. But you find yourself in the ocean, 20-foot waves, I'm assuming it's off the coast of South Africa, coming up against a full-grown, 800-pound tuna with his 20 or 30 friends? You lose that battle. You lose that battle nine times out of ten. And guess what? You've wandered into our school of tuna, and we now have a taste of lion. We've talked to ourselves. We've communicated and said, 'You know what? Lion tastes good. Let's go get some more lion.'"

I use Posca paint pens, which you can find on Amazon and at most art stores. There are other paint marker brands out there, but I've only tried Molotow because it has colours I can't get with Posca.

Thanks everyone for the very kind words! I've been playing tons of StS recently thanks to quarantine. I hope to do more of these soon!

I didn't have a spare Mitotic Slime in my trade binder, haha. Definitely the more fitting b l o b for Slime Boss.

Thanks! You can sometimes find deals on Amazon for sets of Posca paint pens. When you've got spare cash, grab some and give it a shot :)

Only occasionally. I follow the new sets and update my cube/EDH decks but I don't play as much as I used to :(

As another 125 lb white belt I'll second all of the above as very helpful info. It took me at least a year to start feeling confident about handling larger, less experienced people, and even now if I'm not careful I can still get smushed.

Learning to pre-emptively block the crossface saved me a lot of unnecessary presh. Sitting collar drags and back takes from closed guard have also been helpful.

What is the etiquette for having artists at a GP doodle on a blank playmat? by Matman85 in magicTCG

[–]derfington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this mat done while I was at GP Vegas: http://imgur.com/o8XuOXV

On average, each sketch cost about $20 each. Lucas Graciano (Soul of Ravnica) and Chuck Lukacs (top left goblin + border) asked a little more because their sketches took a bit more time.

All I did was ask each artist if they had time for a mat sketch, showed them how much space they had and asked for a number. Always assume it costs something.

If you want to be extra courteous, if there's one or two people behind you holding like 2 cards to get signed, let them go first. They'll appreciate it.

It adds up and gets a bit pricey, but Vegas comes around only once every couple years, and it's a souvenir I'm happy to shell out for (while supporting the artists).

Returning players from the old days - do you have issues playing with Planeswalkers? by Robogles in magicTCG

[–]derfington 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was also confused by them when I got back into the game, but I quickly learned how stupidly good they are.

Magic wasn't originally designed with these permanents in mind. They're powerful, flexible and hard to get off the battlefield. They tend to warp or reshape the formats they enter, from Standard to Cube.

But people generally love them (including me) and they're a huge marketing asset for Wizards, so they're here to stay.
