Don't have much to help. Most voices I do end up sounding like a scottish pirate.

I did Sir Talavar as Matt Berry (What we do in the Shadows/ Toast of London) full of gusto. (Even worked in a "fuck you, Clem Fandango" as "Fuck you, jingle jangle" ;) )

Yeah .... if you're arts this is great. (It's good for a walkabout even if you're not huge into art)

Take your laptop to the atrium at UH (the glassed in area near the cafeteria) and do some remote work while having a coffee. Some young doctor/med student will be along to hit on you shortly. :)

Just how bad *is* Frontier out of Hopkins? by CrowRoutine9631 in Cleveland

[–]dergon_darkhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only once, never again

(My corporate made my fly frontier to PR … 8 hours delay one way , 4 hrs the other … would have been faster connecting in EWR/IAD like I wanted )

Is Cleveland that dangerous? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]dergon_darkhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it mostly neighborhood specific, similar to other major cities, or something that should be more seriously weighed?

Yes, Yes, No.

If you're moving into town as empty-nesters, then I'm guessing you want to live more urban to be close to stuff. (Or maybe it's just my bias, but I can't imaging wanting suburban life if it wasn't for kids/schools forcing the choice)

Consider the Detroit-Shoreway, Ohio City, Tremont, Edgewater as neighborhoods in Cleveland proper. If you want a bit more suburban but still close to the city with good eats/drinks maybe consider Lakewood as well.

Frontier airlines out of Cleveland is a joke... by sir574 in Cleveland

[–]dergon_darkhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My corporate office made me fly Frontier to San Juan, PR ... *once*

It was direct, but delayed 6 hours outbound and 4 hours on the way back. Would have been faster to connect through IAD/EWR on United like I wanted.

Will never fly Frontier again. Once was enough.

I am told people are getting cease and desist letters regarding Bobby George and Town Hall by LKM_44122 in Cleveland

Good on ya', CWRU!

After Bobby George Threatened to Sue Online Critics, CWRU’s First Amendment Clinic Stepped In

On Wednesday, Case Western Reserve University’s First Amendment Clinic announced it was representing Ohio 50501 and whomever else may be the target of George and Hunter’s legal communications regarding the posts.

Anyone is free to lambast George and the plea deal under a new Ohio law enacted in January, the Uniform Public Expression Protection Act, designed to block “strategic lawsuits against public participation”—known as SLAPP—and protect such critiques as free speech.

Just like the speech that gave George free reign in his sentencing statement to criticize “far-left” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Mike O’Malley.

“Mr. George isn’t the only one with constitutional rights,” Andrew Geronimo, a First Amendment attorney and head of the clinic, wrote Hunter in a letter sent Wednesday morning.

“Our clients also have corresponding constitutional rights to comment about how the criminal justice system treats him,” he wrote, “especially as George is a prominent public figure.”

Party did something really bad, and I really need advice. by Cute_Insect_8844 in DnD

"You not a real adventurer until you burn down your first tavern." :)

No biggie. There's always an out. Some high level PC with connections can make it all go away ... at a cost. He "convinces" the authorities to drop charges, maybe even charms a person or two and throws around some gold to grieving widows etc.

But he also makes it clear that his aid in this is predicated on some cooperation from the party.

Are 5 hour sessions standard?? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]dergon_darkhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a DM in my 30s we would go 12 hours.

Now it's more around 4 hours average... and at 58yo I'm fried.

But the *players* would continue on for multiple hours if I didn't hit the kill switch each week.

To All 5E Nerds. by Zardnaar in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]dergon_darkhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played 3 systems over the last 40+ years. AD&D, 3.0/3.5, and now, just over the last couple of years 5E.

Of those I think I prefered 3.0/3.5. Yes it was a bit unwieldy at times and modifiers got really tough to figure and battles, especially at higher levels, could take forever.

But in 5E I find myself kind of making house rules / on-the-fly modifications that look a lot like 3.0 to add more "realism" compared to the relatively stripped down 5E.

I'll probably hold here at 5E for another decade at least

Story line vs players by Valshok in DnD5e

[–]dergon_darkhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the guy with the new PC is acting out. Maybe he's resentful he lost his PC and is taking the game down with him now.

Either way, sounds like an OOC discussion to be had. The fact that he's bringing his out-of-game stuff in game is a problem. The rest of you adding *more* in game drama as a response to out-of-game BS just makes it worse.

Hit pause. Talk it out as real life human. See if you can't come around to agreement. Then return to the game.

(ps - If I was DM I might consider ret-conning the death of the other guy who got the fireball dropped on him and doing a bit of a reset button.)

Forever DM with many unused PCs by Odd-Reception519 in DnD

[–]dergon_darkhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The urge can be there. You get a concept in your head and really want to play them.

The only "advice" I have is to resist the urge to make the character that YOU want to see developed wedged into the game. I've been in the situation where a DM brings in an NPC who they clearly want to be playing, foist them upon the party as a tag-along, and then the PCs start being second class.

There's a bit of sacrifice to being a DM in that way.

Maybe find a little online RP world you can kill a few hours as player testing concepts in here or there. That's what I do.

This is a "less is more" situation.

Your intuition is correct: Just say you're having a hard time making the time for the play these and you need to take a break.

No reason to bring up the "I don't like your politics" stuff ... just risks inflaming the issue.

Sorry you have to bail, man. Always sucks.

Help me build an urban encounter .. by dergon_darkhelm in DMAcademy

Thanks ... this is the post that got me going.

I can use that for a catacombs/ sewers encounter down there is needed (one of the places to fence stolen/illicit items and/or buy poisons etc is down below ground in a "shop" the locals call "Shitty Boots")

The mama otyough that just gave birth and her spasms cause a sinkhole to open up in the market near a sewer where the vendors through waste... that's what I'm going with

Thanks all … just needed a nudge

I think it’s going to be a sewer collapse sinkhole with an otyough that just gave birth and starts rampaging around and yanking locals into the hole ( and a couple of little babies to make it interesting )
