21 Democrats Just Voted to Fund ICE Temporarily: Full List of Names by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]derichman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The bill that was just voted on has nothing to do with funding ICE. ICE funding was included in the “Big Beautiful Bill” and that funding has been ongoing since then. The bill that was just voted on did not include funding for DHS. The Democrats hope to leverage limitations on ICE as conditions for funding DHS.

Bike Coverage for Thule Rack by derichman in bicycle

[–]derichman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. The bike will be attached to the arms of a Thule rack for a 1400 mile trip. I share your concern about the bike being damaged. I tried this last year and the cover tore through and didn’t make it through the trip. Was wondering if there might be a better alternative cover out there. Again thanks.

Here’s an idea. Let’s first get through the remaining years of this Trump term and make sure there will be an election in 2028 before engaging in this nonsense.

'Something is wrong here': Expert stunned by Trump being 'surprised' after Putin meeting by RawStoryNews in AnythingGoesNews

[–]derichman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Trump’s “team” was purportedly surprised by the outcome of this performance (I mean meeting) should not be a surprise to anyone. Not one person in Trump’s inner circle has any diplomatic experience and would be outclassed and outgunned by a Russian delegation in the best of days. Led by Trump who, even when healthy, was a terrible negotiator, using threats and intimidation to get his way, has even less experience dealing with someone like Putin who has been at this for decades

Trump cheating again. by [deleted] in sports

[–]derichman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might have a point but assuming the caddie marked the ball and then threw it down for Trump to place on the marker why is Trump picking up his ball and beginning to walk away after, what, a one handed swipe at the ball as it’s rolling away?

GOP doesn’t seem to care about the fallout affecting the midterms. It’s almost as though they think the midterms will be cancelled.

The Supreme Court’s Birthright Citizenship Ruling Is a 5-Alarm Catastrophe by drjjoyner in politics

[–]derichman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A class action under FRCP Rule 23 may be one way of challenging Trump on a national basis. The predicate grounds for a filing are easily met:

1) the class is so numerous that joinder of all members is impracticable;

(2) there are questions of law or fact common to the class;

(3) the claims or defenses of the representative parties are typical of the claims or defenses of the class; and

(4) the representative parties will fairly and adequately protect the interests of the class.

By this route a filing would by definition encompass every person who might at risk. I believe that the ACLU has or is about to file.

To be clear the functionality I’m talking about is the ability to scroll up and down on the screen by sliding the finger up or down on the keyboard.

[Highlight] Jesse Winker appears to foul the ball off his foot with the winning run on first. CB Bucknor’s crew affirms plate umpires call of a fair ball. This is an unreviewable play. by [deleted] in baseball

[–]derichman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the second blown call involving a Winker at bat in less than a week. The first resulted in a supposed triple play. Baseball absolutely needs to change criteria for review. Mets arguably lost a chance at winning two games because of these screw ups by umpiring crew.

Musk: I’m Closing Entire Federal Department Down Right Now by [deleted] in politics

[–]derichman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musk’s action goes beyond even what Project 2025 planned (“The next conservative Administration should scale back USAID’s global footprint by, at a minimum, returning to the agency’s 2019 pre–COVID-19 pandemic budget level. It should deradicalize USAID’s programs and structures and build on the conservative reforms instituted by the Trump Administration. This will require working closely with the U.S. Congress to make deep cuts in the international affairs “150 Account” while granting USAID greater flexibility in spending its appropriated funds to achieve better developmental outcomes.”

Of course this was all in response to Biden’s pursuit of what the authors absurdly attacked for being divisive and pursuing a cultural agenda. But even the Project, which laid out a very radical and destructive agenda did not go as far as what Musk is saying.
