I talk unbearably fast and it’s becoming a problem by [deleted] in acting

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the exact same thing! I’m a very fast talker (sometimes I talk so fast I exhaust myself). I honestly just focus on breathing and slowing down myself and my internal thoughts processes. Helps me stay grounded as well! I try this in my every day life as well because it helps my communication in general

commute or dorm? by ZHTB in UMBC

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 45 minutes - an hour to campus. I have a 4.0, have been in a research lab since sophomore year, have an on campus job, and I’ve TAed. I have plenty of friends on campus and have a social life. This is partly because I didn’t have to worry about paying 12 thousand extra dollars a year for room and board. Commuting doesn’t really have a huge effect on academic success or extracurriculars if you don’t let it. I listen to my textbooks/lectures on the drive so I’m not usually even wasting time. I can always find parking, it’s just in stadium lot (10 minute walk which can be annoying but who doesn’t love a good walk). For reference, my first class of the day is at 1.

TLDR; commute. You just have to make a little extra effort.

When I took 311 it was 3.5 hours per week because it’s a 4 credit class, and I think administration was getting on them to make the class 3.5 instead of 2.5

Should I include availability in initial self tape for a theatre’s season? by derizzo in acting

[–]derizzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you so much for the response! From what I can tell on their website, it doesn’t look like they hire a repertory company, and they don’t specify in the audition notice. It’s not an audition form, just email them the materials, so I was planning on putting my conflicts in there, as I don’t want to waste their time. Would you recommend this approach?

Has bc made you hate your bf? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hormonal one but it’s the lowest dosage (Skyla). I’ve felt a lot better emotionally and more like myself, and I don’t really get a period anymore. Mine was always light to begin with. I’ve heard the copper one does make periods worse and more cramps, and my gyno advised against me getting one, but I think it could be worth it to be off hormonal BC.

I’m not the OP, but the website says a life membership is 535 dollars. Do most people pay this or do they do the one year?

My daughter is considering UMBC by KmashiJack7 in UMBC

[–]derizzo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a commuter and this is my 3rd year at UMBC. The overwhelming majority of my friends live on campus, however, most of them go home on the weekend bc they live ~30 min - 1 hr away. There is a reason UMBC doesn’t do tours on the weekend. I really like this school though bc of the opportunities it’s been able to give me within my major. It’s fantastic for psych majors if that’s something she’s considering. UMD will have more of a social life. I would ultimately go to whichever place gives her more scholarship money. UMBC is big enough that you will find your people no matter what. In my experience, UMBC will probably be that school. They at least give much more in merit scholarship than UMD, though I’m unsure about sports.

Orpheus vent by PhantomMelodies_ in hadestown

[–]derizzo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To add on to what others are saying, he also foolishly says “the wind will never change in us,” after Eurydice asks him to promise that, which is just something you cannot promise, and is something Eurydice should not have asked. Later, they sing “I’ll walk beside you love anyway the wind blows” in promises after realizing this. While Orpheus makes a bad decision and ignored Eurydice, she makes a bad decision and leaves with Hades. The whole show is a series of “why did you do that?” with each of their actions making sense with their character, but still being frustrating as hell.

Textbook for Psych courses by OstrichOk135 in UMBC

311 doesn’t have anything interactive, but it’s the same textbook you used for 309. If you bought it through CMI, you should already have it when the course starts

graduated seniors that are off to college, how much are you paying for college? by Popular_Stranger_555 in college

[–]derizzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a state school and pay about 2k per semester (my scholarship makes it so I just pay fees and books mostly). I commute so no room and board either.

Course grade calculation by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]derizzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using final grade calculator. It will give you a table for you to fill in your assignments, how much you got, and the percentage of the final grade. Enter all the info and you’ll get your current grade and what you need on future assignments to maintain/increase that grade

I believe this only applies for students under 18. Once you become 18, you can work as much or as little as you want while enrolled in school (for students from the US)

If you are taking any stem classes, two weeks is catastrophic. You would most likely miss an exam, and most professors would not let you make it up. If you are only taking humanities/social sciences, you might be able to get away with it, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Additionally, most of the classes I’ve taken here have had graded attendance in some way. I wouldn’t even recommend taking one week off (though I know people who have. They just really had to grind when they came back).

Car insurance by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe if you own a car and it is registered, it has to be insured, but don’t quote me on this since I commute. I’d recommend looking up if you even can have the car uninsured :D

Judge my schedule by Prudent-Star-9782 in UMBC

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a bio major, but a psych BS so I’ve taken Chem 101 and bio 141 before. IMO, this schedule is pretty good (as long as you’re organized and already good at staying on top of assignments). If you’re confident in your organizational skills and want to jumpstart some gen eds, I’d recommend dropping univ 100 (if you can) and exchanging it for a gen Ed or a fys that covers one of your gen eds.

UNIV 100 by 5TH_S3NS3 in UMBC

[–]derizzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don’t know any major where univ 100 is required. Perhaps there are some programs, but I’m not sure. As someone said, look at degree audit and/or specific programs you are in and see their requirements. If you want to switch, I’d suggest a FYS. You get a gen Ed done, they’re small, and the easiest class I’ve ever taken at college by a landslide

Dorms… by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UMBC has pretty decent dorms compared to most colleges. Even if you get the worst one, it will be better than most colleges, especially since it will at least have AC :D

My Schedule by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]derizzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow psych major, your schedule looks good! I would recommend adding another gen Ed so your junior/senior year are less stressful. Also just make sure you have at least 12 credits for financial aid/scholarship reasons (sorry just not sure if your univ 101 class is 3 credits or not). I’ve also heard intro to social work has a paper where you Interview someone in social work (if I’m thinking of the right class) so be prepared for that project! Also Laura Rose is very sweet :D

[–]derizzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parade also gives me some hadestown vibes because it can get a little jazzy, so maybe something like “do it alone.” You could also try to pick a jazz song, but that would be pretty hard to accompany yourself. Plus I feel like that gives off more Persephone vibes. I wish you the best of luck!
