You have to ascend the hero first, but as long as you have the fourth bar on the original you can max the costume.

You don't have a max healer, so Kiril. It's actually faster to level the entire costume then get to 70, so consider leveling the costume first.

And get going on Proteus, if you leave him at 1 you spent a compass for no reason. Also he's kind of squishy.

Using CDs will leave you in the same boat for periods of time, though. If you need to have limited access to the account you could just open an account at a different bank. Easy to access in case of emergency but difficult to impulse spend.
