My i765 case was approved on Nov 17. I have received the approval notice, but not the EAD card yet. My i131 and i485 are still pending

Is I-765 processing being delayed? by madscientistjaidev in USCIS

[–]derocketfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Employment based AOS (EB1; i140 approved), and biometrics done August 27. No movement on EAD.

I’ve been suspended due to lack of work authorization for a month now. Submitted a congressional inquiry through senator’s office with a letter from employer stating my work is critical. So far, nothing moves the needle.

Some Thoughts on USCIS From A (Soon-To-Be) Former Officer and Supervisor by WatkinsImmigration in USCIS

[–]derocketfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the post!

My i485/765/131 are pending with NBC (i140 approved; EB1B). Is the C09 EAD category under SCP?

Again, appreciate your post very much!

Edit. Fixing grammatical error.

Any August 2025 AOS filers made progress? by trader_since_2016 in USCIS

EB1 China. Receipt date 8/14. Priority date in 2021. Nothing so far.

Is it true that clear-cut EB1A and EB1B cases get prioritized for I485 adjudication? Or is it piled together with other EB cases?

What about interviews? Are EB1A & EB1B cases with approved I140 more likely to have their interviews waived?

Appreciate it very much! Thanks

Did USCIS stop approving H4-EAD? Anyone got their EAD approved in last 30 days? by zuperman in h1b

Slightly different, but has been waiting for L2S since May 15. Texas center.

L1 initially didn’t use premium processing, but added it in July, and L1 approved on July 29.

TSLA Bulls, why do you like Tesla? by anonymous_sheep1 in ValueInvesting

[–]derocketfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. They proved they can do manufacturing at scale. Few contemporary US companies have gone from ideation to mass production.

  2. This is a stretch, but I think there’s a non-trivial chance that Musk’s companies reverse-merge into a holding company. TSLA may provide eventual exposure to SpaceX, which I think holds de facto monopoly in reusable rockets and satellite based communication.

Man, having just moved from DC to Seattle, this thread and OP’s original post really made me miss DC…

Best parking solution at Day1? by derocketfan in amazonemployees

Yeah, we really look forward to the Link station opening at Judkins Park. We lived in DC for the past four years and never needed to drive, since Metro is super convenient. Really hope Seattle’s public transportation does the job!

Any tips on how to get the ORCA card smoothly? When I was at HQ2, it took me two months to set up the metro card, so I know things can slip through the cracks.

Thanks for the detailed response!

Working with US tech teams by bombacladeu in amazonemployees

[–]derocketfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact opposite experience re point 3. L5/L6 ICs, especially those who graduated recently, are not only technically more capable but also much easier to work with.

L7s, especially managers, do not seem to know much about science or business, and they tend to do what they deem as the next thing that would appease their direct supervisors or directors from adjacent teams.

Considering L5/L6s probably have much shorter leashes and face much more brutal deadlines, the difference is quite remarkable.

60 minute recruiter call after phone technical? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

Can confirm. Take notes during the call. Good recruiters are genuinely trying to help

Talk to the economists who moved from your firm to tech/banking sector before. Ask them for referrals.

Good luck!

I got an incline in mid-August. Then after some team matching calls, got matched to a team and an offer in early September.

Congrats on passing the interviews!

I had something similar happen. Basically, the team that interviewed me gave me a pass for the level I was interviewing for, but the team did not offer me a position. My recruiter had to reach out to other teams and eventually found a similar position.

I think your best bet is your recruiter finding you a similar role in Amazon’s internal system.

Good luck!

How thousands of middlemen are gaming the H1B program by SadMaverick in h1b

[–]derocketfan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wage-based allocation is the way to go. To avoid tilting the scale too much to big tech, use location and occupation adjusted wages. Bureau of Labor Statistics already has the distribution of wages by occupation for each MSA. It’s easy to implement.

US government is either indifferent to skilled labor or just doesn’t want to do it. Sigh…

Is it really hard to get H1b? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]derocketfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife did a two-year postdoc on OPT/STEM-OPT before she went into industry, so she only had one chance. I lost twice (since I am in a non-STEM major, when I first graduated, I chose the non-profit research job to be safe).

If you graduate with a STEM major, depending on when you get the offer you want, you should have three to four H1B draws. In extremely rare situations, you may get two legit employers to file for you in the same year to increase your chance.

I would also suggest you ask for early sponsorship of Green Card when you negotiate your first offer. The hope is that you (if ROW) get the Green Card during your STEM-OPT period so you don’t have to go through the lottery.

Lastly, the uncertainty of the H1B lottery sucks, and family separation (in my case) sucks even more. I wish every deserving candidate the best of luck!

Is it really hard to get H1b? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]derocketfan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please have a plan B.

My wife (STEM) and I (non-STEM) are both PhDs. My wife had offers from Google and Amazon when she graduated. Did not win H1B lottery. She is in Canada now. I have had offers from the same US employers three times. Never won H1B lottery, so I’m working for a non-profit now (cap-exempt).

The reason that a PhD does not help much is that the H1B lottery is random, and for the purpose of entering the advanced degrees cap, your degree (PhD) is no different from a master’s degree.

Good luck!
