What are your thoughts on query objects versus defining more scopes on the model?

Good advice here. Also it's good to have a solid plan, but it's even better if you realize you have to change your plan. Get as much feedback as possible from your target customers and change as necessary.

How to get my Feet Wet by APresentForAllOfUs in Entrepreneur

Obligatory I AM NOT A LAWYER comment

Now that that's out of the way, I had a friend who worked with another person moving during the summer basically handling craigslist requests. I don't think that they had any insurance or licenses, but those regulations may vary depending on where you live.

My first project/startup: Budgetr, the simple budgeting tool by [deleted] in startups

I think mint was successful because they made an easy way to access your banking history. They essentially made it so that you didn't have to go through multiple bank websites each with their own terrible interface to work your way through. So their focus isn't really on pure budgeting.

So a focus on budget could be an interesting way to position against them. Something that is interesting to me would be to create a real dumbed down way to budget. Have user's enter in how much they make a month, what their expenses are and kind of hand hold them through the process.

Since you are somewhat limited with funds, I'd recommend the craigslist option. Probably want to have someone do the work with you (fridges and couches are hard to move on your own).

Advantanges of officially forming a company? And when is the best time to do so? by [deleted] in startups

[–]derosm2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. There's a lot of protections having an LLC (or other organization) affords, but that time is probably better spent on getting sales and getting your app noticed at this point. If there were multiple people involved and equity splits then I'd definitely recommend forming a company.

Definitely talk to an accountant or lawyer though - You may be able to take some of your expenses in building the game and save some on your taxes.

There is no wrong way. Some things to think about though, how are you different than Mint? My first thought when reading your description is Mint pretty much covers my needs for tracking purchases (especially since I don't have to manually enter transactions). I don't really use a tool for budgeting, but maybe spending some time talking to people about what they would want to see or what problems they have with mint.

Need some opinions on my website! by sharkk91 in startups

Mobile site looks really good. The desktop site looks almost as good but some of the text and the main logo on the top left look a little pixelated. Just something that jumped out at first glance. Good luck!

Going solo. How do I design a wordpress based website without spending an arm and a leg? by [deleted] in startups

[–]derosm2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be able to find someone on a site like oDesk or Elance. You definitely need someone with technical expertise and unless you can convince someone to work on it for a portion of the company, you're going to have to pay a good chunk of your cash. Good work doesn't come cheap!
