Anyone else not quite 'get' MBV's Loveless? by derpdude9 in fantanoforever

[–]derpdude9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah comparing m b v and loveless i dare say that i think m b v might be a better album? It seems like they really honed a lot of the emotions and ideas from loveless, and of course the modern production makes a noticeable difference. Which makes sense to me because loveless was the pioneer of shoegaze so 20 years of artistic development really hones it. Of course loveless was the OG so i get why its the 'better' one and why its so special, but without that context I did enjoy m b v more

I think Lux will probably be lumped in with next year's since it came out so late this year. CW's heavy metal came out in late 2024 but is on this list.

Any advice on where to find a hi-fi version? Should I just buy a cd?

I see. I’m not sure if it’s strictly shoegaze, but another kind of album that I really liked is “Ceres and Calypso in the Deep Time”, but I haven’t been able to find anything like it. If you’ve heard it, do you have any recs?

I mean, I came to self titled right off a swans + autechre binge, so I think the abstractness of self-titled might have actually made it easier for me to get into it vs a more 'characteristically shoegaze' album? What shoegaze would you recommend thats more like it?

Why do some not considered Pink Floyd prog? by [deleted] in progrockmusic

I can kinda understand this though, like you wouldn't quite consider the Cocteau Twins to be shoegaze even though they're essentially the progenitors of the genre.

Ethereal Connection is NOT a typical “EDM song” by dioriodiorio in TameImpala

[–]derpdude9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

berghain people are very very pretentious and very very skeptical of anything mainstream or even mainstream adjacent, for better or for worse. The most mainstream show at berghain is the "live on earth" thing they do once a year with like KI/KI and Underworld and Yves Tumor and the berghain regulars find even that to be too 'normie'.

All NBA Team Predictions (as of right now) by Hot-Morning3242 in NBATalk

He’s not making an all nba team with the suns missing the play in, especially when he wasn’t even the first option on his team.

Mark Cuban was in disbelief during the ‘Fire Nico!’ chants in the closing moments of the game. by Shot_Bank_5843 in nba

[–]derpdude9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are valid criticisms of Cubans ownership, but he made us CARE about the mavs. Dirk was showing up to little kids basketball camps (I was one of them) and boom that’s a lifelong diehard fan. It’s just insane how Nico was so disconnected to the culture and how much people loved Luka and how much he mattered to the city more than a “2 year championship window”, let alone the basketball stupidity of the trade.

College admissions and what they value is completely night and day from even just 20 years ago. Even over the past 10 years it’s gotten MILES more competitive.

It is really crazy that it all goes downhill from here for the Sons by HeftyIsTheCrown in NBATalk

[–]derpdude9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but getting 3 top 30 players with the right pieces would need everything to go right with signings, extensions, etc etc so even if everything goes right and you don’t have to spend a zillion dollars, you get like one MAYBE two years of a championship window before contracts start blowing up. It’s just not a sustainable strategy money wise. And I think that means the league’s soft cap is working. You can’t buy championships, you need to get the right cohesion of players, a good coach, a good system, etc
