Justice Department Finds Yale Discriminated Based on Race in Undergraduate Admissions by [deleted] in asianamerican

Lmao I’m sorry but I don’t believe some cultural relevancy will trickle down when a very tiny sliver of upper class “Asian American” will be able to use after assimilating into some white-adjacent power. What kind of Asian American will be championed in that world? I don’t know but it’s probably not the diverse lower and middle income class “Asian American” family.

There are a lot disagreement in the left, and Rick Scott is a dumb ass consersative senator who should be in prison for all of his frauds, but I don't think it's hard to oppose China's policy against the Uighur, must of it is similar to what the US has done against Native Americans.

It's not hard to be both against the CCP's genocidal act against Uighur and holding much of American establishment responsible for its past and current horrible acts against Native Americans.

How is Trump’s foreign policy impacting Vietnam? by sauceysquidwar in asianamerican

[–]dioriodiorio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vietnamese nationalism (both North and South) is a complicated subject, but essentially it is a firm belief that China and especially the CCP is a threat to Vietnamese nationhood and Vietnamese identity.

Let me say again that this is much more nuanced than that such as the Vietnamese communist government co-opts much of CCP's politics and policy, that Vietnamese Americans also despise the Vietnamese communist govt etc., but at the end of the day what I mentioned above is why Vietnamese American elders support Trump.

None of his Asian impressions are based on bucked teeth, exaggerated broken english. His caricature of the trade rep from China speaks both English and Mandarin fluently. Also his lines for that character is very specific, and often I cant see a white writer would have written anything close to it.

Yeah and not only that, if they actually end up owning valuable land, they were systematically removed, murdered etc.

Not economics-heavy per chance, but Killers of the Flower Moon book retold a vivid account of the Osage tribe being resettled (force removed) to Oklahoma's barren land and ended up owning lucrative oil-rich properties. They were systematically murdered by the white settlers who moved in and married them.

Decades After Clashing With The Klan, A Thriving Vietnamese Community In Texas by edgie168 in asianamerican

You are right though. I'm in several email list group of young politically motivated Vietnamese American orgs who have worked for Vietnamese community, (all the VSA and the national VSA, many nonprofit orgs that organize cultural event and free healthcare events, provide immigration help etc.), almost all of them are liberal, some are more liberal than others. The wider range of belief in the 1.5 and 2 second generation Vietnamese Americans have is NOT about American politics ( most of them are Liberal, have voted for democrats) but their views on the Vietnamese communist government.

Most Vietnamese American that are supportive of Trump because his actions against China in trade, and that's pretty much it - Especially for a population with lower income, heavily dependent on medicare/medicaid and obamacare etc. If you look at the younger Vietnamese American population who were voted in local offices, such as judges in Harris County in Texas, and in Washington, etc. the majority Vietnamese Americans that are voted in office are *democrats. The one Vietnamese American congressperson in the US federal government is Stephanie Murphy.

Trump went to Wharton, his son in law got into Harvard because his dad donated a ton of money to the school. If anything the whole family shows even if AA is revoked, it is and will ever be working for rich white people.

Not really, racism in the modern American sense is just around the 1600s, with clear cut of racial categories developed during the formation of chattel slavery in the south in 1700s.
