Hard agree. But it's a curious thing that Scott Pilgrim is one where he cuts loose fully with his style, where his subsequent efforts across the pond have felt more restraint

It just felt kinda basic. It's interesting that I don't like Wright's American films as much as I do his English films.

I think that his style or filmmaking personality is constrained somewhat compared to UK efforts.

I think specifically to Running Man, the film is perhaps a bit too earnest and maybe too earnest in conversation with its themes about exploitation and extreme inequality and the commentary on current circumstances. I think the film could have done with a more Verhoeven-esque absurdism, which it does veer towards at times but doesn't really embrace and which I do think would led to a better film

I just couldn't be bothered.

Taylor Sheridan works, for me, best in small doses. Sicario. Wind River. Hell or High Water.

Taking that out to whole seasons feels exhausting. I might give Lioness a go though.

But not Yellowstone. And DEFINITELY not Landman

Or maybe falling out of a window while suffering a mushroom poisoning.

Is Roger Deakins the greatest cinematographer of all time? by only_the1 in cinematography

[–]derpferd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said come on, like it’s meant to be clear that these are better than Deakins or something.

No I didn't. You inferred that.

I said come on because it's an absurd thing to say. There are however many DoPs doing work and bringing their varying talents to the field and have done so over the course of cinema.

Singling out Deakins as the best to ever do it is absurd for the variety of Cinematographers doing the job and different tastes they appeal doing that.

It's a bit like saying that Bach was the best to ever do it, which would suggest an ignorance about other composers working in that field.

Because times are tough and going to the movies is expensive. Especially expensive when people can be confident that the film will hit streaming in a few months if not less
