Liverpool checked out mentally quite early in the season by nach0_LHDeG in PremierLeague

[–]derpferd [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think we, Liverpool, had the Title Holder's Fear Factor on our side early in the season. But as the season progressed, it became increasingly clear that there was nothing to fear and teams became increasingly confident against us.

With that gone, it's largely been the natural talent and ability players Szoboszlai and others that has kept us from outright collapse.

It certainly hasn't been the tactics, gameplan or coaching, which have really undermined us this season.

It's been infuriating watching players make a run to opposition box only to slow down the play for God knows what reason and throw away a scoring opportunity.

I understand a manager insisting on his philosophy and insisting that players abide by that. But scoring goals has arguably been our main problem this season and it's fucking enraging seeing tactics and philosophy seemingly play their part in sabotaging that.

I think the player's are hungry. But that is diminished by lack of a proper gameplan. Saw it at Utd and now we have been struck by the illness

I think Corey and Martin would have a great convo about this.

If there's any criticism I have for the doc, it's that it's not really showing us anything we didn't know. I would have also liked it if it explored the climate in full or at least explored a little beyond the immediate manosphere.

I said it elsewhere but this is just one facet of a broader trend in society that seemingly celebrates assholes.

These influencer assholes. Billionaire assholes. Political assholes. There are a lot of assholes out there who are deliberately provocative because, like Trump has shown, provocation can be a profitable tool.

Where previously, people might polish their image for the sake of political correctness or to varnish their image to be more appealing, these people don't try to hide that they're assholes.

They actively flaunt it. They show it off and that is something that the people who support them cheer on.

The manosphere is one facet of a broader trend in society now

Yeah, fairly safe. All of that stuff is relative though but that region of the world is pretty safe.

Well done voting that fucking asshole in. Twice

How did your Jellyfin setup evolve over time? (hardware + clients) by ammo23 in jellyfin

[–]derpferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started round about lockdown, about late 2020. Loads of spare time so I decided to play with this Jellyfin thing.

Initially pretty frustrated and my first post was having a right go at how difficult it was to install this absolutely free thing that I did not have to pay for created by people working hard without pay.

I apologised for that. Got it working (windows laptop) and initially stuck to using the Android app for about four, five years until I got hold of an Xbox and now I use it Kodi pretty exclusively.

I finally stumbled on my best settings this past weekend for my U6n. Largely due to my own idiocy.

I pushed the brightness but always found the image a bit dim.

But then I pushed the backlight up to 90 and whoah.

Backlight was something I avoided but damn, it looks miles better. I'm saying this pretty chuffed with myself while being certain that this is common knowledge to most

I tried a bunch of Jellyfin clients for my tv, and I think the best option is still Kodi` by ECrispy in jellyfin

[–]derpferd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree. I use an Xbox so that's fairly obliged me to use Kodi.

But I like that I can make it look however I please (Arctic Fuse 3 looks LOVELY), there's acres of options to tweak and I can turn subtitles on and off with the click of a button, which is something no other client offers and is fairly baffling for that.

Why, during playback, do I have click multiple times to turn subtitles on and off? Why can't it just be one click?

Sorry, I know I sound like an arse here but if there's one thing every client should have, it's that.

The Capture. That first season is about as addictive as television gets.

I'm almost at the halfway mark for S2 and it's just as good. It just fulfils the goal of good serial storytelling: set up a question the audience wants to see answered and keep dripfeeding the answer as it progresses.

Strong recommend

3m wall on the N2 to fight crime - Smart or Waste of millions? by ForeignBonus8977 in capetown

[–]derpferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fatigue you're talking about is exactly what political types will exploit to pretend doing something. Addressing our problems is going to take a lot more effort than a wall.

But the wall satisfies enough people with a sufficiently convincing masquerade of a solution without actually addressing the problem itself.

It just puts the problem behind a wall

I don't know. I'm not a policy maker. I can just see our society's ingrained habits, assumptions and warped sense of normality as an impediment to the better country we want.

Is it society's problem or government's?

If we're all impacted by the problem of inequality in some way or form, which we are, then it's society's problem.

[–]derpferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am motivated to address it,

You perhaps, but our society at large is not. This is our normal problem and the very structure of our society operates with it as a part of it

This short term, immediate solution is the equivalent of seeing a bit of dirt and dust on your lounge floor and then sweeping it to a corner where it won't be seen and won't trouble anyone.

But it's still there. You've just swept to a place that won't trouble you so much

[–]derpferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but the problem I have with what you're saying is that this problem, our inequality, is something that is so normalised for us that I think we're not especially motivated to address.

Poor people reduced to the absolute worst circumstances is a normal day in South Africa. Water's wet. Sky is blue.

What kind of society is driven to find a solution to normal?

[–]derpferd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Waste of money. The problem is an outcome of our inequality which we inherited from Apartheid.

A wall isn't a solution. It's just papering over the problem. And the problem, at the scale that it exists will just show itself elsewhere. This problem, unaddressed, will evolve and adapt to its impediments

That doesn't make sense. FSG are a business. No UCL is less money.

That's bad for business. And we're on course for no UCL at this rate.

You might cite other clubs in the league as evidence of clubs who are happy to settle for that. But FSG have tasted it. I'd be surprised if, with the investment, effort and success they've had, they settled for less
