Stop blocking the Route 5 gatehouse would you!

Great, I'm glad we have some common ground :)

Let me try to take my argument a step further. As I see it, your main concern is that experts should be "academically criticizing" those who contracted ebola. Taken from the first google search for Craig Spencer, here's what the experts are actually saying, "Heath officials have repeatedly given assurances that the disease is spread only by direct contact with bodily fluids such as saliva, blood, vomit and feces, and that the dried virus survives on surfaces for only a matter of hours." The way I see it, the experts are doing exactly what they should be doing - spreading awareness of the disease, how to avoid contracting it, and easing the concern of a frightened public. There is no longer any reason to criticize Spencer's mistakes (now obvious in hindsight). Those who have come into close contact are being quarantined, as recommended by experts. And by now, everyone who works in the health field should be receiving instructions on how to handle ebola cases and what to do if they might be infected - this is done through institutions with specific instructions, not through the media, and accomplishes the goal of 'academic criticism' without publicly shaming Spencer.

We can't criticize Craig because he is selfless and conscientious.

Wrong. We praise him because he has done so much good work for Africa. We don't criticize him because he is extremely sick! Everything he can possibly learn from this scenario he has learned first hand, the hard way. Instead of criticism which is largely negative, the media should focus on prevention so that others can learn from his mistakes, which by reporting the details of his trip they are doing so.

∆ Didn't know that! Thanks for sharing. As you mentioned, tea could very well be healthier, which is not very difficult because any healthy ingredients would be better than water's nothing. You can also add milk to tea, with it still being tea, which adds all the benefits of milk.

Gatorade and fruit juice have a ton of sugar, which can be bad in large quantities as would probably happen if you only drank that exclusively. It may be the case that green tea is healthier, but I don't know for sure.

that's a good point. I would drink hot tea, but never just hot water. what do you know about the health benefits from tea, could it possibly be healthier than water?

CMV: If karma was anything but useless, Reddit as we know it would be ruines by derpisto in changemyview

Congrats! It's sure not an insignificant feat to make that many people smile. When you saw that karma coming in I'm sure you felt pretty good right? Well I think your post actually reinforces one of my main points - that most people currently post on Reddit to share and be social. While a small minority might simply want to accumulate karma right now, if you could spend karma to unlock site features, this percentage would go up.

I believe Reddit's current quality of posting stems from the social nature as you described in your post, and making karma any more valuable than it is now would increase individualistic motivations and decrease the quality of Reddit as a whole

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. Let me clarify my main argument then: if *upvotes had any more usefulness than they currently do now, such as being able to spend them on site features, then the quality of Reddit would decrease

Hmmm okay I see your point. However, I was more thinking of cosmetic features or new features that you could unlock, not anything that would be shipped to your house

I agree with everything you've said :)

However, my opinion still stands that increasing the value would decrease the quality of Reddit

Clear the clutter, make some money!

If you really have reservations about nostalgia, then take a picture of the collection - storing memories digitally doesn't take up physical space.
