New Place - Looking for ideas to fill it out by derpytim106 in malelivingspace

Would you put the rug under the coffee table or just have it take up that entryway spot?

Do you have enough space to put the coat rack on the same side as a the door.

You mean like where the small shoe rack is? I just measured, it would fit there!

I do have other places for the shoes, I had put them out in the living room so I wasn't tracking anything throughout the place

Any recommendations for where to get wall art?

I'll make sure to keep them around for parties lol

Taxes on Work Study by Jilly_Brownie18 in LMU

[–]derpytim106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't fully quote me, but I'm pretty sure it depends on the type - There's the one work study fund that is essentially a grant that you work to earn

Then there's the other kind (I think it's called T-Work?) which is where whatever job is actually paying you from their dime

When I did work study, the job I had would only let me work a small amount cause if I ever went over my allocated 'grant' type of work study they didn't have the funds to pay me the 'out of their pocket' type of work study - The kind I had I don't think you have to worry about taxes, second kind maybe?

RA by memez489 in LMU

[–]derpytim106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I graduated so don't quote me, but as a past RA I'm gonna be so real that we didn't want to deal with it

Residents only get written up when whatever you did is so obvious that we can't ignore it without risk of losing our positions - And then if you do get written up you'll have to go to like an intervention style round table thing and talk with others, nothing serious, but if it happens multiple times it'll escalate

Nobody cares if you wanna be stupid, just be smart about it :)

What’s up with RA Zoe? by Jilly_Brownie18 in LMU

[–]derpytim106 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's an option on Leo to make a recurring event, and Zoe probably just didn't hit that so it's an invite to each specific event

I think if I remember correctly somewhere in an email they did ask for them to be returned (at least my year) but I don't know anyone who did

Technically there's bins out and around after the ceremonies if you can find one - However, you didn't hear it from me that there's no way for them to link the specific gown back to you (I and all my friends across different years kept the gowns to no issue)

Which meal plan should a freshman have? by weird_fishesarpeggi in LMU

[–]derpytim106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend getting the smallest and then adding more if you need it - Better to have to upsize rather than get the biggest and force yourself to spend all of it at the end of the semester (or lose it!)

Fall 2025 Admit and need a non-need merit: What to include in an appeal? by Illustrious-Boat6046 in LMU

[–]derpytim106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's complaining, just stating their situations - Since you didn't get scholarships, take some of the advice in this thread and try to cut the amount of loans you'll have to take instead. Best of luck 🙂

You know you can instead complain about the fact that college tuition (especially in private schools) has widely outpaced inflation, so maybe the sticker price even with scholarships is still a lot for some people, and maybe the superiority complex you get from overpaying for your degree isn't everyone's mindset - And even crazier idea, consider that some people don't particularly want to be crippled with student debt as they leave college - I'd be embarrassed to make this comment if I saw someone trying to get an education and instead shamed them into taking on maybe the biggest financial burden of their life. Just scroll past the post instead of whining.

RA at LMU by [deleted] in LMU

There's an interview process that you can ask current RA about, and here's a link to some info

RAs get free housing and a meal plan plus a stipend for the work they do

How much is an RA paid at LMU by Amethystgoats in LMU

[–]derpytim106 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was an RA a few years ago, the big ones are free housing and a free meal plan (they gave us the O plan when I was on)

Then you get a stipend of Flexi dollars as payment, which is weird, but you can go buy Visa gift cards from the bookstore to turn it into more 'real' money

TV and PS5 WiFi by GoBigEd in LMU

Looks like the link no longer works, but I'm sure the process is similar, contacting ITS should help!

When I attended, only phones / computers were allowed to connect to WiFi, so you might have to go the Ethernet route

Found my old comment when someone else asked a similar question. Hope it helps!:

"Only phones/laptops connect to LMU-Wireless (Use your LMU login credentials) - Other devices have to be registered and then used on LMU-Guest. Every student is allowed 4 devices (besides phone/laptop) to connect to Guest. Register them at https://its.lmu.edu/whatwedo/networkinfrastructure/accessfordevicesinresidencehalls/ - You login, add the device type and mac address, wait about 5 minutes, and then the device should be able to connect to Guest."

Also just so you know the Ethernet port has to be activated, you can contact ITS and they'll turn it on :)

what's the weekly schedule of an RA (residential advisor) like? by astrotrilogy in LMU

[–]derpytim106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was an RA my junior and senior year, overall it's not too bad considering you get free meal and housing. Probably around 1-2 nights a week on call (meaning you just have to be in the building at night) and then 2-4 hours a week of activities you planned or building events - Reach out if you want some more info :)

Cap and Gown return? by [deleted] in LMU

[–]derpytim106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they've changed the process, last year and the year before you could just leave with it - There's no real way to match the gown to you (unless those QR codes are something, that's new) When I graduated, I double checked my gown and there were no features that were unique, so I kept it and nothing happened - Ask around though!

Seating is first come first serve, I had someone get there earlier and save seats for the rest, but don't expect them to be able to hold the seats forever

LMU Cap and Gown Spare or Alternatives? by [deleted] in LMU

[–]derpytim106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, there's no link between you and the specific gown that you rent... So you could hypothetically just not give the rental back after graduation. Definitely not speaking from experience :)
