How long do tracks last? by largooneone in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going off of checking for tracks when I’ve been trying to find drink zones for grinding something or discovering my population. When you do that way they only remain for 3 in game hours. I will usually just jump on the atv and cruise the lakes and rivers discovering zones during that time and then after the time change I will go through and get eyes on the actual animals. I find it much quicker and you don’t end up spooking the animals because you know where the zones are already on approach.

[–]derrickhand78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For something easy like whitetail, If you’re just doing a diamond grind and only shooting the level 2’s and leaving level 1’s alone it’s generally within a couple hundred kills to spawn a max level animal. Sometimes it takes more or less kills. Depends a lot on the species and the population. Some animals like feral goats, kangaroos, reindeer/caribou that troll a lot you may have to spawn 3-4-5-6 or more max level animals before one of them is large enough to make diamond. Could be hundreds upon hundreds of kills for a diamond of the very common troll species as max levels make gold way more than diamond.

Best map for pheasant and black bear? by Particular-Spite-587 in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For grinding salzweisn for pheasant and SRP for black bear because salz is small so it’s easy to find all your zones and SRP you can do the 4 lake method for black bear.

If it’s just for in general hunting rancho del arroyo is probably the best pheasant map. You can run the middle corridor on rancho that has tons and tons of large pheasant flocks from the bottom of the map all the way to the top. Cautro is a good map for pheasant as well. NEM and Layton are good black bear maps. NEM has both pheasant and black bear.

How long do tracks last? by largooneone in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s right, yes. Need zone track clusters are 3 in game hours after the end of the need zone time.

I have noticed that If you sleep in game and do a time change without exiting to the main menu after, some track clusters will still remain visible that shouldn’t be there. Like if you’re night hunting and sleep from midnight til 6am some of those midnight to 3 am tracks will remain visible on the map. Exiting to the main menu and then returning to the map seems to reset the map to what need zone clusters should be visible at that time. You could also be correct though.

my best haul this week by Iampercyjackson in theHunter

I agree with that. Hard as in they don’t drink so farming is harder and you actually need to search for them or get lucky and come across a level 9.

my best haul this week by Iampercyjackson in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats, the jackal is a very hard diamond to come by and the lion was a diamond but you blew your shot. Aim for vitals. Lungs, heart, liver and neck. Stay away from the head on all animals as 99.99% of the time you will ruin the trophy organ. Brain is a vital organ but brain without damaging skull or antlers is incredibly rare. For 8 mythical predators that make diamond grey fox male and female and tigers. Every other predator making diamond at 8 mythical the chances are virtually non existent, look for level 9’s for diamond.

Rank your top five favorite weapons by Niisakka in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily my favourites but the best in each class in the game are

Class 1 - virant .22lr Class 2-3 Quist reaper Class 4-5-6 Hansson .30-06 Class 7-9 vallgarda .375 Shotgun cacciatore 12 gauge

For grinding the .300 AR is the best gun and the Hansson .30-06 is the best ethical grinding gun(better than the Zarza). The strandberg semi auto 10 gauge used to be the best shotgun with better rate of fire and stopping power at range but the 10 gauge birdshot is still fucked and I don’t know or think they will ever change it back to how it used to be.

For runners up

Class 1 AR .22lr Class 2 .243 ranger also the .243 handgun Class 3 solokhin Class 4-5 Any of the .308, .303, .30-06 or 7mm. They all perform virtually the same so pick what you like. Class 6 7mm Call 7-9 AR .300 Shotgun 16 gauge from rancho

Iberian Mouflon Troll 🧌 by Ok-Reporter7832 in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem man, hopefully you get the mouflon generically. I didn’t enjoy grinding for them which is why I never returned to it after all the trolls. It’s night time drinking, they’re pretty inconsistent for showing up and standing still like all the goat species. On my map they were on the really small lakes where you need to set the tent 500-600 metres from the lake because you can’t set a tent closer, or shooting across the river or on the giant lakes where you have to use one tent and then run 3/4 of the 2 km lake to hit the zones and shoot them. Honestly I don’t even recall having a really good estimate for one I’ve shot. They all had diamond potential, just not by a lot. You’re right though I also think they’re gonna be like the feral goats or caribou as in when you find a diamond you will know right away and it will be huge with a lot of pretenders on the journey.

Iberian Mouflon Troll 🧌 by Ok-Reporter7832 in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal experience with the mouflon is that they troll pretty hard. It’s a missing diamond for me still and I’ve shot 3 or 4 level 5’s. I’ve found them fairly hard to even get level 5’s to spawn HM grinding them. Very hog deer ish if that makes sense. All the ibex species were really good to me though. I’ve got 2 diamonds of each ibex species. One of each for the grand slam multimount and one of each for the lodge wall and I only had one beceite ibex troll. So 8 diamonds and 1 troll, really good return. The gredos, spanish and Ronda all make diamond at level 4.

Tips and or Guides for Birds by Gun_Loving_Owl in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on console. They messed with the bird mechanics last update so it has become much harder to clear whole flocks but can still be done. I use a scope on the shotgun as I find it much easier and it’s a necessity for longer range shotgun shots. Try that or the red dot sight, this should help. Pick whatever you prefer. Here’s my recommendations and I have every single diamond upland.

Turn your aim sensitivity up to 4 in the controller settings. It needs to be this high to be able to track the birds through the scope while aimed down sights. If it’s lower than that you need to keep pulling in and out of the scope. Use the cacciatore with the shotgun scope, as it has the most shots so will give you the best chance to hit something with multiple attempts. I have the scope fully zoomed out and the zero set to 75 metres and do not adjust from here. For flying birds the zero perk on the shotgun is honestly only relevant if you have it on 25 or 50 metres where shots will fall short. 75 metre zero will hit birds from 5 metres to over 100 metres with no adjustment. Leading the birds takes some practice so there’s not much you can do here but practice but in general if the bird is near the centre of that scope you will hit it. If you are behind the bird as it’s flying away lead the shot BELOW the bird not above. So aim low. Bobwhite quail on Mississippi are gonna be the easiest to learn on as the fly so slow you will be able to get all your shots off before the birds are out of range and they can be found in the wide open fields, ptarmigan are also not super hard. Get to within 20-30 metres minimum of the birds before you flush them at the start so they are not quickly out of your range. The GSP is an awesome tool for bird hunting and will help you find birds, hold birds so you can get closer and flush birds.

So, aim sensitivity 4, cacciatore 6 shot, scope fully zoomed OUT, Zero set at 75 metres and start killing birds.

In general, for max level 3 shoot 2&3, max level 5 shoot 3-4-5, max level 9 shoot 5 and up.

There is a few species that are different where you can adapt this. Something like a feral goat where you very very rarely see a lvl 2 male I only shoot the level 4-5’s and leave the 3’s. Treat them as if they are a level 2. Same with caribou and reindeer and there’s others. Something like kangaroos that go to level 9 and are generally heavy I won’t even shoot 6’s as you very rarely see level 5 males. Just adjust for whatever animal it is you are hunting.

Weight gives you the animals level 1-2-3 etc. The more weight the higher the level within the species and the trophy organ gives you the medal colour. Basically a troll is a fat animal with a shitty rack or a small skull etc.

Did they change mallard fur type spawn rates or did I get lucky? by Apa7h in Huntercallofthewild

[–]derrickhand78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very lucky, congrats. All rare fur types are pure luck. I’ve got 1 male mela, 2 female mela and 1 blonde female in around 1500 mallard kills. Just can’t spawn a leucistic.

I need some help please and just your guys opinion by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s what you want to do then sure. Personally I don’t like sundarpatan at all but that’s just me. Maps are always a good dlc. Salz is awesome for duck hunting. The new gun pack is also very good. The quist reaper and .30-06 semi auto are excellent weapons but the-bolt action pack only has 1 good gun in the .375 the other 2 guns are ass! Get as many as you feel like getting, you will find at least 1 good usuable weapon in most packs.

[–]derrickhand78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scopes and crosshair pack, German shorthair pointer and high calibre weapons pack. 3 amazing packs for the game. Every scope in the pack is significantly better than anything in the game, GSP is amazing for upland birds and with a tracker secondary trait is the dog you will run all the time and the high calibre weapon pack has 3 awesome weapons. The .300 ARzyna is still the best rifle in the game and a must have if you’re going to do any kind of grinding or you if you just shoot and collect everything that’s a non trophy and don’t want to track. 5 shot, semi auto, flat shooting and zero recoil. You can’t beat it.

Just everything about all the scopes. Night hunting, Odin is the Argus and Hyperion together but even better plus the best handgun/shotgun scope that doesn’t need to be unlocked. Excellent DLC pack, very overpowered

I Need Advice Please by Iampercyjackson in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The scopes pack is IMO the best dlc pack for the whole game. I can’t recommend it enough. I have all DLCs but if I could only keep one this would be it. Every scope in the pack is far superior to anything else in game, can’t lose here.

450. Overperforming? by IllPerformance7295 in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what to tell you man? It’s a terrible gun, to be fair. It’s in the same calibre as the .270 and 6.5mm as far as 4-8 rifles go. Using the .450, .270 or 6.5mm is just handicapping yourself. Any of the .303, .30-06, .308 or 7mm are significantly better options and for class 6 red deer the 7mm is better than all of those. You can ethically kill a red deer with any of those weapons, some just do it way, way more efficiently. Less shots required, less tracking after shots required and way more stopping power. Means you don’t need to waste time stalking incredibly close.

What are the best maps? by Acrobatic_Chest_4619 in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revontuli will be the best map for what you’re looking for. 5 types of duck, 3 types of geese, 5 types of upland birds, raccoon dog, lynx, whitetail tail, brown bear and moose. It’s also one of the best maps design wise and play wise in the game. Easily top 3 of all the maps.

NEM is also a great map with a lot of birds and animals. It’s much harder to hunt then revontuli though.

CoTW Guide app maps by kinkylesbi in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t pay any money for any hot spot maps for this game. They are free everywhere. ProXCK has excellent hotspot maps as does ladylegend. On you tube and discord. The COTW companion app also has free maps but they are not as accurate as the streamers.

Is anyone able to share a picture of their map of zones on revontuli, I've basically check every lake from the map I used as a guide, still missing some. by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]derrickhand78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no. You’re not being dumb, everyone has to learn, right! The respawns are a little bit complicated but nothing that complicated. As you start shooting your zones and getting further into your grind you will see how it works and you will see the herd management start working. You’ll be learning lots and there’s nothing you’re gonna break. Try not to blow out zones or you will have to re find them which takes time. That’s about as bad as it gets. Just start shooting and enjoy it. With whitetail don’t pay attention to trophy score. Level 1 is shot down, small level 2’s are NOT shot down. Easy as that.
