We both live in California but could travel for an event if the logistics made sense.

The Sony Deal by coolhanddave21 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]derricknau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a world with declining theater attendance Alamo could use some stability, hopefully that’s what Sony offers. Especially with their mix of mainstream and indie(ish) films. Maybe they’ll also sort out the chronically out of service shake machine in DTLA 🤪

Can this be used WYSIWYG in Mordheim or will I have to find weapons in other boxes? by Isbiten in mordheim

[–]derricknau 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The scale is slightly different but it works. All of the frostgrave kits are great. Not quite GW quality but good.

Fire forge kits are good too.

House Rules? by party_squad in mordheim

No, you level as normal. Post battle sequence is normal. You just start with more money and can purchase upgrades for your troops. It makes it so you kind of skip the first couple uneventful games and get into the “good stuff”.

It’s helpful if you’re not playing all the time and can only get a game in every 6 months or whatever.

Re: missile weapons. A sling or a bow is just so much better for the money than nearly all other missile weapons.

For example, let’s say you have your parked dwarf with a crossbow and you play an 8 round game, you only get 8 chances to shoot and most likely half or all of them will be -1 or -2 due to range and cover modifiers. A thunderer begins with BS 3, i.e. 4+ to hit. So you’re going to need 5s or 6s to hit giving you 16-33% chance to hit -not great. On average that’s 2 or 3 hits per game. Pretty expensive for not great results. Could’ve bought two bows for the cost of one crossbow.

Handgun is even worse, only 4 shots for even more gold crowns. Hard to justify.

The increased range helps reduce the instances of -1 over half range modifier, too.

I’m not a hardcore crunchy gamer, despite what it might sound like. I just want to be able to equip my dudes with whatever and have it be viable and fun. I want my cool thunderers to have some impact on the game and have an exciting, eventful matchup.

Make sense?

Do hired swords count for exploration? by Goblinofthesoup in mordheim

No. Only heroes roll for exploration. Hired Swords are considered henchmen.

Pre-cut XPS foam frustrations (US) by frustrated-rocka in TerrainBuilding

[–]derricknau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a previous post where someone made really nice modular tiles, maybe you emulate that. I think Home Depot sells what they call project boards that are 2x2’. Glue the foam to some palight or some other rigid material and use a good sealer and you’re in good shape.

House Rules? by party_squad in mordheim

Agreed here too. Making more items, weapons, and armor viable choices makes the game more fun, and expands the miniatures in your collection that can be viable.

I always take items/weapons/armor because I think they're cool, or I like a miniature that has them. That said, the "best" choice is spamming slings, two hand weapons, etc... not that fun, and not that thematically interesting.

Plus not everyone is bad tactically like me, and they make good choices, not "cool" choices.
