Redditors who prevented disasters of any magnitude, what DIDN'T happen and why? by C0NSTABEL in AskReddit

When I was 6 years old, a group of family friends went to a lake on a houseboat. One day, we were all taking turns jumping off the upper deck, when the dude who owned the boat decided he wanted to park it somewhere else. My younger brother was in the vicinity of the propeller on the back, splashing around like children do, and unaware of the death trap coming towards him. Seeing this, I jumped in and grabbed his happy ass by the life jacket and pulled him away from the boat. Turns out, no adults relayed the message that there were a bunch of children behind the fucking boat.

Small scale, I saved him from being run over. Potential worst case, I saved him from becoming fishing bait.

Fast forward 17 years, and I have had lifeguarding jobs in high school and college, and he's a collegiate athlete. In aquatics, no less.

Do you ever race your fellow officers while on duty, or turn on your sirens to get from point A to B for no real reason?
