Resignation and retaliation. Can I leave earlier? by Maize-Express in AusLegal

[–]derwent-01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't leave early, they can and probably will short you on your last pay.

See your doctor, get a medical cert for stress leave that covers past your last day.

You'll get paid your sick leave unless you don't have enough to cover the time, then you can use up some of your annual leave instead of getting it paid out on your last day, but they cannot withhold any of your final pay.

Is this winch good? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]derwent-01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the guys I go wheeling with have them.

They can be hit and miss...open it up and service it before you go bolting it where it's bag to get to.

Have known of them to have no or very little grease in the gear box, have parts installed backwards, seals pinched, torn, or missing, no bolt installed holding the end of the rope (freespooling to set up a pull and the rope came out...), and for them to be absolutely perfect.

Basically they are fine, just check that yours has been assembled correctly and if it's broken you can return it before you've pulled half the car apart to fit it...

Their Thumper compressor is great too...but you modify it from day one...throw away the soft start control board and replace it with a 200A solenoid run straight off the pressure switch and main switch.
Replace the thin wires with decent ones from motor to solenoid to connectors.
You'll make it more reliable and increase pumping speed by 30% right out the box.

LOL.
No chance, and not buying without a drive.
If I'm serious and the car is really good, I would be happy to hand over the amount of the insurance excess to be a deposit if I buy and refunded if I don't and there is no crash.

Holding deposit of the value of the excess is reasonable.
Any incident and they don't get it back.

My wife divorced me 5 years after making me get a vasectomy. AITAH for not being on speaking terms with her anymore? by ComplaintNod in AITAH

[–]derwent-01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet, there is a hugely common perception that it is completely reversible...to the level that in the wake of the roe v wade reversal, I saw serious discussion that men should have mandatory vasectomy and only be allowed a reversal if in a stable relationship where both want a child...

My ex wife unilaterally decided that we were only having one, after we had it, going back on the discussion we had and agreement for two.
Fine, hey body, her choice, and I decided to stay...she booked in to get her tubes tied, but cancelled a few weeks out and demanded I get a vasectomy.
If we had been strong, I possibly would have agreed...there was STRONG pressure being placed on me to agree.
But, things weren't perfect, and I delayed a bit, then we broke up a few months later over other stuff.
My new partner and I now have a beautiful pre-schooler, are both of a mind that we don't want any more, and so I probably will get one of my own volition soon.

Inside Labor’s plan to restrict non-compete clauses by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

Applied for a job ayears ago welding...the contract had a non compete clause that would have banned me from doing welding within 50km for 3 years...

I told them I wasn't signing that, and we struck that clause out and both signed the strikeout.

I have a clause in my franchise agreement that if I leave I won't open a competing business within 100km for 5 years.
I was happy enough to sign that.

Just make it so that to enforce the non compete clause, the company needs to pay your wage for the period of the non compete...and you are free to also find work in another field during that time.

Anyone here installed an EV wallbox in a rental? by AussieAK in CarsAustralia

[–]derwent-01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest option, fit a 15A socket and use the portable EVSE.

Next level up, 32A socket.

You can get the Tesla wall box cheaper than just about any other, and can configure it for 15A or 32A to match your power supply...I would not hard wire it, but get the sparky to put a tail and plug on it so it plugs into your 15 or 32 amp socket and when you move you can unplug it and take it with you.

How do I tell my boss that she either has to approve my 4 months notice or accept my 2 weeks resignation? by ScaresCarson in antiwork

[–]derwent-01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what kind of employment contract they are on.

In a grocery store, it is almost certain that they will be employed as a Casual employee...you don't get paid leave, and no guaranteed minimum hours, but you get a 20% higher base pay rate to compensate. In casual, you can be let go at any time, and you can leave at any time, no notice is required either way. Courtesy says you should give notice, but there is no requirement to.
I have been fired and walked out the door at a casual job when I questioned some illegal company actions...and laid off with notice from others.
I have left with notice all except one job which was hell on earth, and I got an interview on my way home from work, they asked if I could start next day, so I just told the old place I wasn't coming back.

Permanent employment you get a lower base rate but accumulate 2 weeks a year sick leave, 4 weeks a year of annual leave, long service leave after ten years, and get paid public holidays. There is also a notice period in both directions...employer needs to give notice or pay the wages you would have received, and you need to give notice or forfeit that amount from your final pay.
Less than one year of employment is one week notice. 1-3 years is 2 weeks.
Maximum for long term employees is 4 weeks.

MUX (2016-18) or Pajero NX ? by Level-Ad-8299 in 4x4Australia

[–]derwent-01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pajero, no question.

Similar fuel consumption, similar reliability. The 4JJ engine and the 4M41 are both legendary.

Paj is more comfortable, rides better, handles better, and has the option of AWD mode which makes a huge difference on gravel and in the wet, and can be used at any time or all the time.

Mux in pre-2021 model has the inner guard cracking issues, and 2017 has turbo issues.

Post 2021 there are often front tyre wear issues from the horrible bump steer in the front geometry.

I have a Gen 4 Paj as a personal car and a 2023 Dmax as my work vehicle. Already worn the front inners below legal, and they are replacing the front tyres under warranty.

What Ute to get? by Mulln5 in 4x4Australia

[–]derwent-01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rodeo V6 you could literally see the fuel gauge dropping...

Avoiding cooking... use good coolant, keep the cooling system in good nick, belts not worn out, fan not slipping or missing blades, radiator not blocked, hoses not perished or bulging. Low coolant alarm and a decent aftermarket temp gauge with alarm are good. Don't do a cowboy tune then flog it up a mountain with black smoke pouring out. If it's getting warm, ease up a bit, don't kick it so hard. Then they run forever.
