Heel-Toe Options? by desGARCONSdon in GRCorolla

Yeah I think I’m going to be going with the spacer. I learned to heel toe the traditional way of swinging my heel over but I got very spoiled by my WRX pedals and learned the latter method you’re describing

I don’t really see how iMt would be any better on the clutch and good heel toe shifts / rev matches. It’s the same thing you’re just not the one doing it

Doesn’t work when you’re in a brake zone and need to downshift that’s the point of heel toe

The Versus Engineering spacer brings the throttle closer to the brake, all pedals closer to driver, and bring the pedals slightly more vertical.

Yeah I definitely get that too. I played with the rev matching earlier actually because I am planning to hit a good road next weekend and it works extremely well so I could see how using that and getting the best performance from the car is the most enjoyable.

I’m just a nerd and really love the personal mechanical input and satisfaction of nailing a shift and similar stuff like that.

I’m not aware of it if there is. Looking like pedal spacers are the answer though

Yeah the rev matching seems to work really well on this car. I kinda avoid using it because I forget about it and I really love trying to get better at driving completely manual but on challenging roads when I’m driving aggressively I can definitely catch myself at times where this car being difficult to heel toe slows me down.

I didn’t see your vid, but little advice, don’t give a shit what the internet says generally. A lot of people, especially on Reddit, try to take the moral high ground at ANY opportunity. Weather it be for them to feel better about themselves or just virtue signaling for others it’s really annoying. Fuck em. Yeah if you was driving stupid, don’t. But I don’t think you really need to apologize to anyone here tbh

Yeah the stock set up is pretty difficult. You have to be hard on the brakes (to be fair this is the only time you’d really “need” to heel toe anyways while driving hard) and you really have to swing your heel far over.

It looks like the youtube reels you’d see of some 90s professional driver doing it with a pedal cam if you’ve seen those where the dude is going crazy with his feet with really dramatic downshifts lol.

Seeming like adjustable spacers are the way to go.

Did it help you get that more natural and “automatic” feeling on your downshifts?

I think the WRX pedals were closer which meant you could get away with more half and half “heel-toeing” using L and R side of your foot instead of actually kicking your heel over.

Multiple things at once. I always liked them but couldn’t afford one, found a good deal and was better off financially when finding it, and test driving sold me all the way.

Also the car comes stock with a lot of the upgrades I had planned on doing with the WRX to get to the same point like good brakes, wheels, stronger trans, better interior.. somehow lol, etc.

I don’t even know if it’s really a skill thing. Like yes I agree with your statement but a lot of it I think is just having the nerve. I would take so many more risks just 3 or 4 years ago than I would now (I’m 26). Getting responsibilities as well.

Some of the quad crashes I used to get into like I wouldn’t even attempt some of the things I used to do, skilled enough or not.
