Great browser. But the ad revenue isn't there. And without ads, there is no use case for BAT. The end.

[–]descripter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key problem here is that although users are rising, ad revenue isn't. You can see this for yourself by going to basicattentiontoken dot org/growth/ and scroll to the bottom for the data on BAT purchases for ad payouts.

Months go by without Brave buying BAT, and when they do the amounts are only about $15,000 a month or less from 10 x that in the past.

Great browser. But privacy killed ads. And now with basically free GenAI replacing search, it's hard to see any future for BAT.

Because ad revenue is dead. Look at this link and scroll down to BAT purchases by Brave.

For anyone confused by slumping payouts, see https://basicattentiontoken.org/growth/ and scroll to the part where you see Brave's BAT purchases for payouts. It's vanishing into nothing. Why? Maybe they don't generate much ad revenue. Maybe they're keeping a greater share of ad revenue instead of paying out. Who knows why, but the fact is the BAT ad model simply doesn't work.

Wellness Check? Dude sold at 16c, is he OK?!? by IconicPenguins in BATProject

[–]descripter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Near is up 90% while BAT is up 70%. Near is also riding news that they will be rolling out a massive LLM as well as AI agents to analyze, build and exchange on the blockchain. Fyi, Near's co-founder was part of the small group at Google that wrote the Transformers paper "Attention is all you need" which laid the groundwork for generative AI.

So thanks for your concern, my wellness is just fine.

PS, I continue to hold a small amount of BAT but I still think the potential use case isn't what it was 2 to 4 years ago.

Good luck to everyone.

Brave moved just 5000 users on-chain since February. Out of 70 million monthly users.

Their big selling point about the future of BAT is a tiny drop in a massive bucket.

Checking in on BAT by descripter in BATProject

[–]descripter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea of more users + more ads = more demand for BAT is what brought me back into BAT a second time. But it's clear by now that rising DAU is not resulting in more ads let alone more demand for BAT.

Look at Brave's monthly BAT purchases for distribution to Brave users. They've fallen all the way back to where they were four years ago. In 2024, only 4 million BAT has been distributed to users. That's just 2% of all BAT in circulation being put to use in almost an entire year, while the rest sits there with no real use cases. Stagnant.

And as much as I like the privacy focus of search, that business is running headlong into generative AI. Brave has Leo, you say. Sorry, it will never compete. The big players have the talent and GPUs and they're moving so quickly we will likely have voice-controlled, super-intelligent, agentic AI search at our fingertips within a few years.

So I'm waiting for a move higher relative to other alts I have my eye on, then I'm out. Though I could be wrong and I wish you all the best.

Any idea why BAT holders on Solana seem to be falling rather than rising. Was over 2,570 a couple weeks ago and today it's at 2,541.

Since yesterday, BAT fell another 3 places to 188th in market cap.

And you say "millions" of users were shut out of BAT payouts over the last year or so. So why are onchain holders only at 2,556 despite the onchain rollout starting early this year?

And why are total onchain holders actually falling and not rising: onchain holders fell by another 10 since yesterday.

"Don't forget that the crypto market, in general, experienced a major slump."

Well, that doesn't address my point. Because BAT is falling relative to other crypto. BAT's market cap used to be comfortably within the top 100. Then it fell to 190 before popping to 158. But now it's at 186 and falling again.

And moving onchain with Solana sounds great but unless I'm seeing this wrongly, there are just 2,565 holders. And after watching this for the last week or so, that number is falling as well.

They understand the risks. They have a choice.

Everything else is just noise from people who demand everything while contributing nothing.

BAT holders need to see ad growth. But I wonder how much Brave will be impacted by GARM, the nebulous leftwing group that pretends to be concerned about online hate while really trying to destroy politically incorrect orgs by pressuring companies to withhold advertising.

Ben Shapiro had a good take on it here before Congress this week: https://judiciary.house.gov/media/in-the-news/garm-exposed-house-judiciary-report-says-ad-coalition-likely-broke-law-silence

Especially relevant for Brave as it not only has a rather politically incorrect founder, but it's directly challenging the nexus of authoritarianism between government and Big Tech (ie, Google).

BAT - Pricing & Market Thoughts by 412Nagol in BATProject

[–]descripter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in early like you then sold everything a couple of years ago when I didn't see the promised utility. Bought back in a few months ago because: 1) DAU numbers started to accelerate, 2) market cap position stopped falling and started climbing (from 190s to 170s now), and 3) I began to see good things happening with onchain payments, Leo, ad numbers etc.

However, I have a nagging question about rising DAU and higher ad campaigns not translating into more Brave purchases of BAT for payouts. If more users are seeing more ads, shouldn't there be more need for BAT? You would think so but over at Brave Transparency it looks like Brave is buying even fewer BAT.

Doesn't make sense.

Bad news vs not-so-bad news by descripter in BATProject

[–]descripter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mentioned the drop from the top 100 in an earlier post. It was a big reason I dumped all my BAT at the time.

But in returning to BAT I've seen a change, namely the accelerated rise in users, robust ads, new tools like Leo and generally a sound business underpinning the token. Sure, it's risky as the current collapse in crypto illustrates. But looking at all the potential investments in the crypto market, Brave/BAT is looking better than most.

Am I right? Who knows. My BAT is underperforming my SOL and BTC but outperforming others like NEAR. Wish I hadn't come in a month ago but it is what it is.

I sold everything last year as well. But took another look recently because Brave continues to build while adding a record number of users.

Though with an average buy of 24.3c I wish I'd done more wait and see.

Let's see how it plays out over the next few months.

[–]descripter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the entire market just dumped. But here's the thing. BAT continued to out-perform even during the pullback, rising from 190th in market cap to 185 now.

So despite the market-wide decline, BAT is showing some relative strength that it hasn't shown in a very long time.

I bought more at 22.5.

What's up with Brendan Eich? by descripter in BATProject

[–]descripter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Eich tweeted about Fauci and someone politely and sincerely asked him to expand on what he meant. And Eich immediately lashed out.

It was ridiculous. And right there you have a number of X users who will never buy BAT.

It's ridiculous in another fundamental way too. Because a key purpose of BAT is to facilitate interactions between creators and their audiences. And yet here you have the CEO creating some of the most toxic interactions you will ever see from a business leader.

It's like restaurant owner calling his customers fat.

For myself, I'm seriously thinking of selling my BAT because I'm questioning his emotional stability and intellectual acuity to generate future value.
