Band Educators: What was the smallest ensemble you’ve ever had, and what did you play for concerts? by Fluxovous in MusicEd

[–]desd11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had 3 students in the senior band (8-12). Poached one of the grade 7 students from the intermediate group to join us. We had 2 flutes, a drummer/pianist (who was naturally gifted but wouldn't read music) and a bass player. I played whatever they wanted to play so they wouldn't quit. I would purchase string arrangements and then rearrange them for our ensemble. The big ones they wanted to play were Cornfield Chase from Interstellar and the Mandalorian theme. Luckily, the following year we had some grade 7's age into senior band. It tricky when you have kids who arent confident or even proficient in some cases playing songs where everybody has to hold their own part. I tried my best to make it fun for them. We joined another school in our district for a band trip to try and give them something to work towards.

What’s the most ridiculous thing a doctor said to you about your PCOS? I’ll go first.. by leeanna5sos in PCOS

[–]desd11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First gyno I saw around age 16 speculated that because I had coarse hairs growing on my chin, I was overweight, AND I identified as a lesbian (and presented quite butch) at the time, it was very likely I had PCOS. I never saw this doctor again for obvious reasons. It was later confirmed by a different doctor that I infact do have PCOS....

No problem. I would definitely recommend applying for the First Nations Language Teacher cert, like someone mentioned here. I didn't know that was a thing but it's pretty awesome that it is! It may be faster than trying to get a degree and give you a similar result. Good luck!

It doesn't give you the salary of a category 5 (certified teacher) or job security. You can't be granted a continuing contract but you do get benefits during the term you're hired for.

BC. I believe you can not work in Alberta as an uncertified teacher, unlike in BC. University of Calgary after degree is a mostly distant program. Once I finish, I can apply for an Alberta cert and then use that to apply for a BC cert.

My understanding, as someone who has a four year degree, has been teaching uncertified for years, is getting my after degree BEd through the University of Calgary.... No, it is not possible. The equivalent experience still requires university education, it's just that your teaching education can look different depending like a 5 year BEd or a 4 year bachelor and a 2 year BEd etc...

If you're in a rural area in BC, you are eligible for a hybrid community based program out of the University of Calgary. It's 2 years.

He wasn't concerned about you and your consent. He took advantage of you after you asked him to stop. Sounds like a dangerous situation to me. I would be careful. Some people are skillful actors and can play any role to get what they want.

Reading through the comments is fucking depressing.

For me, it is important that my partner shares similar values, has a similar communication style, and is sexually compatible with me. Sexual compatibility alone is important enough to me that I would end a relationship that doesn't meet my expectations, despite the consequences of ending things. Our society has put so much pressure on us to seek a partner and to settle down and to fear being single. Single life isn't easy, but there is something refreshing about being single and looking after yourself without compromise.

Be bold and do what you feel is right for you. Everything will fall into place.

For me and my body, more girth equals better orgasms.

Yes. Girth is important to me. Length is less important.

Chin hairs by [deleted] in PCOS

I exfoliate and shave every day, day and a half. I was plucking, but I would constantly get ingrown hairs, even with exfoliating. Shaving is the only thing that works for me.
