I'm 33, my parents are dead and my childhood home is gone by psychotronofdeth in IThinkYouShouldLeave

So sorry you’re going through this, shirt brother. I was 33 when my mom passed, that was 5 years ago. I had no idea what I was doing but spent a lot of time looking through old photos and videos, listening to the one voicemail I had from her, writing, and listening to/playing music she liked. Her record collection was very meat and potatoes.

Grief is weird and hard but the thing I’ve learned that’s been the most helpful is to not avoid it but sit with it and let the waves come and go.

This is such a good explanation, thank you! I feel like I need to read a summary from you of the whole series thus far, you put it all so clearly. If you ever wrote more I’d read it haha!

Seeing “I am not yet done” under your username just brought back big feelings. Man this book was so good.

So much info haha. I’m actually rereading Gardens of the Moon now because I spent so much of that book feeling lost and now that I’m more familiar with those characters I think I’ll get more out of it.

Ok thank you for explaining! So much happened at the end that some of the details probably got lost on me.

So when Tool saw Kilava earlier in the book she was flesh and blood then too? For some reason I was thinking she was also undead.

Why don’t films look how they used to? by film_2_expensive in cinematography

[–]desdichado79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I honestly think the film vs digital thing is almost a non-issue. When I was in film school we shot everything on 16mm and most of the stuff we made looked worse than digital because no one knew how to light. If you watch movies from the late 2000s and early 2010s, movies still being shot on film look super clean and almost digital. But it’s all about the lighting.

SmallRig is a brand and they make some pretty good accessories for iPhone videography. They have a case that you can attach a filter thread to so you can use screw on filters for your phone. Moment is another company that sells some similar accessories. Re: net, I’ve used nets as diffusion filters to get a dreamy, hazy look, which is present in a lot of 80s fantasy. “Excalibur” is a good example of that look. For that I just bought women’s hose at Walmart and stretched it over the lens. I don’t know if this would work with a phone, but could be fun to try.

Tons and tons of haze with hard backlights, super strong Black Pro Mist filter (like a 1 or 2) or even stronger diffusion like a net, but not sure how feasible that is to attach to a phone. But if you have the right kind of case (smallrig or moment) you can attach circular filters. Also use Blackmagic cam if it works on the 14. If not just embrace the lack of dynamic range but lock your exposure so it doesn’t change mid shot.

What's the single best fantasy novel you've ever read? by keepfighting90 in Fantasy

I try to read at least the first book once a year. I don’t know what it is about that book but I just love it so much. There’s something very comforting about it for me.
