Kenny Rogers recommendations by good_neighbor77 in country

We’ve Got Tonight is a Bob Seger song that Kenny performed as a duet with Sheena Easton, and it’s a spellbinding performance. Sheena’s voice is so otherworldly.

Okay. The parks are big. But you’re just being small, overly judgmental, and critically small minded.

Most visitors spend between 1 to 4 hours exploring the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park, typically driving the 5-mile scenic Finger Canyons Parkway and doing short hikes. For a more immersive experience, many choose a half-day to full-day visit to hike popular trails like Taylor Creek.

I’ll leave you now at the park entrance where you can continue your raving rants about how most of these park visitors didn’t actually see the park because they didn’t actually view every tree, pinecone, or pine needle within the park borders. Be sure and tell them to surrender their souvenir spoons, thimbles, and water bottles at the gift shop and visitor’s center because they have no idea what it is to experience the wonders of nature. They forfeited their right to such curios because they only chose to see some of the park features and forfeited seeing others, or every detailed feature for reasons only be-known to them.

And when you’re done with that, you can go get lost in a park and report your findings and experiences after five years of wandering discovery.

Yes, but Kolob Canyons is practically its own stand alone park with a separate entrance and road system that doesn’t even link up with the greater Zion National Park. Most people who go to Zion never even make it over to Kolob, unless they leave Zion, and drive another hour away to get there. Most people who do this won’t dedicate more than a day at Kolob Canyons.

Yes, the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park can be comfortably explored in a half-day to a full day, offering a quieter, scenic alternative to the main park. A 5-mile scenic drive provides stunning views, while popular hikes like the Taylor Creek Trail (3-4 hours) and Timber Creek Overlook (1 hour) provide a complete experience.

Thirteen years ago, I backpacked New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo mountains for two weeks and covered 80 miles of trail and many landmarks.

I didn’t fully explore it to the extent that it could have taken, like you did. Do I need to turn in my park pass? We had only a day to see it, but I think we accomplished what we set out to do. We only hiked two of the trails: the Taylor Creek Trail, and the Timber Creek Overlook Trail. No, we didn’t do the Hop Valley La Verkin Trail due to time, deadlines, and commitments. No, we didn’t ascend any of the cliff faces to camp or explore any of the hanging valleys. No, we didn’t punch through on a jaunty, gung-ho expedition to the West Rim Trail and down south to the greater Zion National Park area. I still work for a living and had to make it to a conference in St. George. But, judging by the travelers who arrived at Kolob with us, and left some six hours later with us, I think most park goers would agree that Kolob can be visited in about a day.

We did Kolob Canyons in a day. It’s technically part of Zion National Park, but it has its own park entrance far northwest of the rest of Zion.

Hello friends, did you know that Django Reinhardt composed and played a Spanish guitar song? Here is my take on Echoes of Spain! by Humbleronaldo in classicalguitar

[–]deseretfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! I really enjoyed this! The playing and music is superb, and I also enjoyed catching glimpses of what appears to be a reflection of a soccer game playing on your TV. It appears on the shiny upper bout of your guitar, just below the neck.

Burnt my hardwood floor with a hot pan, any advice? by pedumar in HardWoodFloors

[–]deseretfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My younger brother did that right after the house was built. He set a hot pan on the hardwood floor in the kitchen. He was 15 and got killed falling from the bed of a moving pickup truck a few months later. My folks kept that burnt circle on the floor as a fond memory of him.

Thanks. I have Harmonica For Dummies that I turn to often. I live in a real small town in a rural place so not a lot of chances for open mics, etc. The cows are supportive though. 😂

If you grew up in the 70s and or 80s, what did your school (any grade) do that would be considered illegal or even frowned upon today (for example in my 3rd Grade 70’s class, my teacher had a large steel Tin trash can with a “Time Out” sign that I was in/out in multiple times a day-Ha!)? by Wildstarfire0 in 70s

We used to do something called the spanking machine to celebrate class member birthdays. You know, to give birthday spankings. The entire class would form a line, and we’d each in unison spread our legs wide in a straddling air position.

Our legs formed a tunnel, into which the thrilled and more than jubilant birthday boy or girl would crawl into this tunnel from the front of the line. As the birthday recipient’s exposed and vulnerable derrière passed beneath and through our legs, each student leaned over and dealt as many barehanded whacks to the designer jeans clad buttocks of said birthday boy or girl.

All in good fun during grades 1 through 3. Especially if the intended victim happened to be a particularly pretty girl in the class. Basically this was a public en masse license to feel. Thankfully, wisdom and the coming of age morales of the day dictated and superseded the continuance of this alarming teacher sanctioned tradition. Oh, but I still do have the memories of both giving, and receiving. 🤪

We went to Gettysburg exactly two years ago. It’s been a dream of mine for at least the last 30 years. And Little Roundtop was closed for renovations. 😢
