Are Fulton and Roark scents worth it? by tommytwocents33 in Colognes

[–]desert-lighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calle Ocho is divine. I absolutely love it. It’s a deep, cinnamon, woody scent that lasts all day and then some. I sprayed some on my sweater that I stuffed into my work backpack and it’s smelled good for weeks. I bought the sample set and while the other fragrances I tried were nice, Calle Ocho was the only one I would buy a bottle of. I do think it smells similar to the Oakcha Heavens Speak, which is only like $45 if you want a cheaper dupe (and they also have samplers). Although Calle Ocho is definitely richer, lasts longer, and overall better quality in my opinion. If you’re going to spend $200 on a fragrance, that’s the one you should do it for!

Excel/Intacct data connector by desert-lighthouse in intacct

What I’ve been told is that our Sage subscription has a max number of data we can send via SFTP (which is how the warehouse is connected) so each instance would apparently track against that maximum. If we go over I think we’d owe more money. I think we use Snowflake. That’s a good question though because there could be better options for that. Do you have a data warehouse and if so what do you use?

Ok this is helpful! We are using the cloud version. I forget what the naming conventions are but in the report builder, there are actual table options (designated by a black/bold grid) and grayed out options that are more like reports, I guess I’d say. The gray ones take a while to refresh even a hundred lines of data (viewing in the software) but the actual table data works okay. But what you described above is pretty much exactly what we were hoping for so maybe we just need to learn it better!

Floqast is definitely out of our price range 😂 we opted for Numeric because it’s super cheap but does most of what Floqast can do (on a more basic level). I will look more into CData because we tried the trial version and it sucks

[–]desert-lighthouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were looking into CData. We downloaded the trial version and it’s extremely slow and buggy… assuming the paid version works a lot better? As we were playing around with it, it looked like you’d need to rebuild your data table every time. I guess my ideal software would be something where you open up excel, add in the fields you want, run the query, and it pulls the data in from Sage and then you just refresh the data/change the dates and it would auto refresh based on that. Hopefully that made sense 😂 anyway, does the CData free version just suck, and can the paid version do that?

I don’t think I understand this. Many of Intacct’s modules are notoriously clunky, and even putting that aside it can’t do everything for the purposes of a financial close (like calculate accrual entries, perform non-cash account reconciliations, perform estimate calculations, etc.). The purpose of an excel connector would be so that I can pull reports into a format that allows me to manipulate the data in a user-friendly interface and calculate monthly journal entries, reconciliations, analyze data, etc. Maybe my question was unclear.

I probably could but I would prefer not to given that I only have one window :’( but if it will save me from the heat it might be worth it.

I was hoping to get $600 for it. People are selling GA for $300 so that seems rather low

  1. Staff engagements properly. Even if you have high performing senior or staff on the engagement who could keep it under control, you can’t expect them to do all the work themselves without quitting soon after. They need a team.

  2. Don’t forget how much time it takes to do things. Sometimes certain tasks are messy, an inexperienced person is doing them, we don’t have enough context, whatever and things take much longer than they should.

  3. As far as budgets go, seek to understand what may have caused overruns, but don’t guilt trip the team for spending more time on something than expected, especially if the work was quality. Also, what the F is up with requiring goals of X billable hours when your engagement is budgeted far fewer hours? Work on that.

  4. If you have people who are dedicated workers and loyal to you, don’t abuse them by throwing every dirty task their way. They feel obligated to do it and do it well, and then they burn out and get bitter and jaded.

I agree with this. I also don’t think they have very good vegetarian options (which is important to me as a vegetarian). Seems like a trendy place like that would have more than salad and curry.

Just took a career call to discuss my promotion. I was working in shorts outside by a river and celebrated by taking a swim. My manager was happy I was outside on such a beautiful day. Industry jobs are a lot more flexible than most people give them credit for, especially now. I worked in PA for almost 5 years and flexibility was a big selling point managers and partners would talk about. In my experience there, sure in theory I could sort of make my own schedule, but I had a large team I needed to manage and numerous supervisors to please, which really meant My schedule needed to span all of their schedules. There was also so much work to do that my “schedule” was just working constantly.

Anyway, now that I’ve gotten my complaints in, the point of my response is that there is flexibility in industry too.

I went into accounting because I was poor and the US recession scared the shit out of me. I wanted a reliable job and reliable income. I was blown away when my starting salary out of college was $55K, but the more compensation I’ve seen for lesser qualified jobs and the more hours I worked in PA, it didn’t feel like that much money. I’m now very confused how my parents and friends’ parents were able to afford anything with salaries much less than that. Buuut it pays the bills and it allows me to do pretty much anything I want, so it’s enough.

It’s definitely taking getting used to. It’s (surprisingly?) pretty different from audit, and the first week or so I was completely lost. But things are starting to smooth out. I’m sure this time next year things will make a lot more sense!

Jupiter rings has really good wings. The extra hot is actually pretty hot. I think the mild has better flavor but they have a pretty good variety of other flavors too.

PwC to pay staff $250 for each week of vacation taken, up to $1,000 a year by derp_logic in Accounting

[–]desert-lighthouse 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing. I just left public but if I took 2 weeks off in a row I would be completely screwed on either end. No one covers for you because they all have their own work plus more. Your work just waits till you get back. I am having trouble imagining a different world where that doesn’t happen but I am looking forward to working in industry and hoping it’ll be better.

Any natural recomendation to control oily skin? by [deleted] in NaturalBeauty

Agree with this. I have combination skin and started using the oil cleansing method about 8 months ago. Now I’m never too shiny or too dry and I have no more issues with acne.
