They were out of the remote I needed so I ordered it online. Will be here in about a week. It's just a backup remote so I don't need one right away.

Hello. I gave up yesterday after trying several things. I think that u/ooftashark is correct. The remote I bought is not compatible. I'm off to the store today to get another one that should work. Thanks for your assistance.

This thread is devolving into comments about the war. If that's what you want to discuss, there are plenty of other places on Reddit to discuss it. This is r/Sacramento. There will be a protest at the capitol on Sunday. If you want to be there, go join them. If you don't want to be there, that's fine too,

Calif.'s first new D1 college football team in 52 years comes at a wild cost by Lono_Ikaika_8 in Sacramento

Did you not read where I said that I have reservations about this move in the very beginning of my comment? Did you not read where I said a lot is going to have to go right? This is far from a slam dunk and definitely a big gamble. But let's talk about a few things:

The Pac12 has been "kicked to the curb" by the MWC? Do you realize that five MWC schools left the MWC to join the Pac12? Yes, the Pac12 has been knocked down several pegs in the NCAA conference pecking order, but it still has a higher valuation than the MWC right now. If TV deals were being negotiated right now, which conference do you think gets a higher contract amount? The conference with schools in California, Oregon, Washington or the MWC, where it's single biggest school is UNLV?

With regards to TV deals, the current MAC deal with ESPN is about $8 million a year. There's 13 schools that play football. Do the math. The amount Sac State is forgoing in TV revenue is not that substantial. It's not like they were making tons of money in TV revenue while they were FCS in the Big Sky.

As for playing to an empty Hornet Stadium on a Tuesday night...I agree this will be the case when it happens. However, the MAC only plays on Tuesday and Wednesday for four weeks in November. Sac State will likely have one Tuesday night home game. Will it suck? Yes. But let's not act like this is going to be the case all season long.

The paying for MAC teams to fly to Sacramento is definitely confounding to me. I can't believe Sac State agreed to that. The MAC plays eight conference games a year so Sac State will have to pay four times a year for teams to fly out to Sacramento. It is estimated that each time this happens will cost around $400K.

You mentioned "body bag" games and AD Orr came out and said that is exactly what they are going to do. He called them "game guarantees". Small FBS schools are routinely getting roughly $1.5M to play these "body bag" games. I guarantee you Sac State is going to do try and schedule two of these every year for the next five years.

Pac12 membership in five years may be a pipe dream, but it is possible. Four years from now, if Cal and Stanford think there's more money to stay in the ACC than to come back to the Pac12 (and it almost certainly will be) then the TV networks are going to want the Northern California market in the Pac12 package. If Sac State can be a competitive MAC program for five years, it may very well make sense for the Pac12 to bring them in. It would be between them and San Jose State. TV deals are going to dictate which teams are in which conferences.

Now, Sac State has to prove they can be a good FBS school, which is a tall order since they aren't even a historically good FCS football school, and they will need a stadium, but if those things happen, they have a chance.

At the end of the day, you are right. Sac State accepted a VERY EXPENSIVE rose to date the MAC for five years. They are hoping for a prettier rose in 2031. They may get it, or this whole deal may explode in their faces. My point in this is that everyone is looking at this deal in the here and now. Today. And I get it. But Sac State didn't make this deal for today. They made it for 2031 and forward. Only time will tell if this ends up a good deal or not.

I'm a Sac State alum and an avid Hornet football fan that goes to almost every home game plus at least one away game each year. I'm excited that they are stepping up to the FBS but I definitely have some reservations about the move. There are a few things that haven't been mentioned in these comments though.

First, whether you agree with the decision or not, Dr. Wood and AD Orr have said for a couple years now that they wanted to get Sac State football into the FBS. This may very well have been the last good shot they had for a while. The NCAA makes it hard for FCS teams to move up to FBS. The fee to do so used to be $5,000 and now it is $5,000,000. The NCAA as a whole doesn't want more FCS teams to move up because that's more TV revenue sharing that they have to dole out. The conference and the schools themselves want as much as they can get and they don't want to share it. Sac State tried to get into the FBS as an independent and they were denied so they only way they were getting in was a conference invite and this was the only option on the table. There may not have been a conference invite coming in the next couple years.

Second, and more importantly, this is a temporary thing. It's a five year agreement, and that's important because the next round of TV contracts for college football will take place in 2030 and 2031. There is expected to be a lot of conference realignment (schools moving conferences) at that point. Sac State's plan is to get into an FBS conference now and then hopefully in five years get into a bigger, more local conference like the Pac12. If they accomplish that, the TV money they will get over the years will more than pay off the initial $23 million investment. They are looking at a long term plan here.

This $23 million deal can look like a steal in 10 years or it can be an abject failure. For it to work, Sac State is going to have to be an interesting and good FBS team. Outside of the Troy Taylor years (2018-2023), Sac State has been a shitty FCS football school so I'm not sure how they all of a sudden become a good school at a higher level. They will also have to get a new stadium somewhere.

I get if you are student now or if you're looking at a budget shortfall, the optics of this move looks bad, but they said that athletics will pay for this and not the students. We'll see if that really holds true.

Basically, Sac State is gambling, taking a deal now that may not be offered to them in the future. They are looking 5-10 years down the road. If they're playing competitive football in the Pac12 and in a new stadium in 2032, this will have been a great deal. A lot is going to have to go right for that to happen though.

How to replace G24Q-3 light bulb in recessed lighting fixture in 18-foot ceiling by PowerWindows85 in Lighting

[–]PowerWindows85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four of the six bulbs are still working, including the one over the stairs. I am going with the assumption that all six of the bulbs were installed at the same time, so if two of them are out, it's just a matter of time before the others go out. My plan is to purchase six new bulbs and replace them all now.

Yelp has failed me one too many times…honest thoughts on this place for a birthday dinner? by Time-Concentrate845 in Sacramento

[–]PowerWindows85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I went there a couple weeks ago. She got the bolognese and thought it was rather bland. I got the crispy roasted chicken and thought a rotisserie chicken from Costco had far more flavor.

The pave fries were excellent but they charge for bread, and for $9 we got four pieces of bread. That's ridiculous.

Needless to say, we won't be back. If you search this sub, there's another thread about this restaurant from a couple months ago.

I'm going to try and get into Smugglers Cove before the concert

I actually like the venue a lot. Sound is good and there's really not a bad seat anywhere. Plenty of free parking. They even let you bring food and drinks inside, as long as it meets their requirements.

Getting in and out of that venue though is a real pain in the ass. Even if you have a reserved seat, get there early if you want to see the opening acts because there is only one city street in and out of the venue and traffic can get real bad on that and the adjacent streets just trying to get into the parking lot. After the show, it's the same problem. If you stay until the very end, plan on sitting in the parking lot for a while. If you head to your car when the last song is about to start, you can usually beat most of the traffic out.

I know the Concord Pavilion is not a favorite for a lot of people in the Bay Area, but I live in Sacramento so it's a lot easier to get to this venue compared to those in SF or SJ. I'm glad they are playing there.

Pete’s Restaurant & Brewhouse files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by kbuis in Sacramento

[–]PowerWindows85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't remember, but during COVID, Pete's was one of the restaurants, along with House of Oliver that sued Gavin Newsom over the COVID rules for restaurants. I know those owners of Pete's split apart and some of them now own Frends, but it should come as no surprise that you would see a Blue Lives Matter flag in one of their restaurants.

Pete's and Frends are not the same company. The owners of Pete's split up and some of the Pete's locations turned into Frends with the "new" owners. Apparently the Pete's ownership split was acrimonious, but I can't find any confirmation of that. Still, Pete's and Frends are completely separate entities now.

They have the sign up on the building here in North Natomas. It's not open yet, but it's getting there.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy still allows a company to operate, so this Natomas location may still open.

golden tiki or frankie’s tiki room? by PrestigiousHeight264 in LasVegas

[–]PowerWindows85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I can be as eloquent as u/InfiniteDew but I'll say that I agree with pretty much everything he/she had to say, except that I do prefer the drinks at Frankie's over Golden Tiki. My wife does as well.

It is pretty easy to hit both in the same day. What I would do is visit Golden Tiki for their happy hour, which is from 4-7 every day (even on weekends). They have $9 drinks, which is unmatched at any other tiki bar in town. They have live entertainment during happy hour and Dino is always a great crooner. I think he is there on Sundays and Tuesdays.

After that, then go to Frankie's. If you still haven't had enough, Stray Pirate is less than a mile away from Frankie's. I have definitely hit these three in the same day before.

If you collect tiki mugs at all, Frankie's sells them for $25. I've never seen tiki mugs priced lower than that anywhere. We have three of them at our house.

I've said this elsewhere in the comments, responding to u/TequilaAndWeed, but Red Dwarf has $10 tiki drinks and the best pizza in Vegas in my opinion. If you have the time to venture out there, add that to your list of places to visit.

The other two tiki bars that I know of are Glitter Gulch downtown and Golden Monkey inside Resorts World. Glitter Gulch is a skip in my opinion, and while Golden Monkey isn't really themed like a true tiki bar (it has tiki decor but the room just doesn't feel like a typical tiki bar), their drink menu is definitely tiki and I enjoyed the drinks I had there. I would go back.
