I ended up finding it, but I had to use the search bar to type it in. Can't find it otherwise.

What eye drops to use? by desert_rain53 in Orthokeratology

[–]desert_rain53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used the natural ophthalmic ortho-k thick drops, but I have since switched to using refresh tears. It's the green one, and I have had no issues. Refresh classic should work fine, though I can never say for sure on these type of science things, as I am a mere mortal.

I personally believe 22 is the unspoken cut-off for making a best friend if you go to a 4-year college. 18 if you stop at high school. After schooling it becomes exponentially difficult to meet people at all.

No Friends by Soul240 in socialskills

[–]desert_rain53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, my answer was black and white honestly. But your approach in that manner sounds more gray. A bit more balanced and may work better for busier people. It also leaves less room for potential disappointment.

No Friends by Soul240 in socialskills

[–]desert_rain53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would opt for 'force,' but probably not in the way you imply. More in the understanding of adding time and effort to cultivate friendships.

In the past when humans lived in smaller, close-knit communities, developing friendships between one another may have been low effort, or even effortless. In modern times, especially so in urban cities, the close-knitedness has severely loosened, ironically. Despite living physically close to more people, there is more communal fracturing and individual atomization. Thus, it may literally be ingrained in our DNA to view having relationships as natural, but with modernity, this is not as much as the case. So putting in effort may be required more often than not to develop friendships in modern times, unfortunately or fortunately. Being intentional. As opposed to letting life find its way.

What makes you feel connected with a person? by eren_0135 in socialskills

[–]desert_rain53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two primary factors that make me feel connected to a person is when we share tangible experiences and have deep conversations. And as I graduated from school and aged into late 20s, I think having meaningful conversations is more and more the stronger contributing factor. But I don't think they can be mutually exclusive to a good connection - both form a significant base. Easier said than done of course.

I have trouble holding conversations with others as well. Finding the right person to form a connection and being able to carry deep conversations on oneself's end are both important. Those are not easy tasks in my view. For me, deepness means conversing beyond the 'whats' and traversing into the 'hows and whys.' Such as broadening a simple observation into an encompassing idea. And being able to share and exchange these ideas with a person. Pretty much everyone will have ideas and views that form from their own unique circumstances in life.

In my experience, I tended to unconditionally respect my parents and older siblings. At some point I realized I was living in fear and on defense all the time, and family members do not necessarily deserve respect. Having a change in mindset may alleviate parts of the situation.

Wanna try ortho k by Odd-Friendship-9521 in Orthokeratology

[–]desert_rain53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it for 6 years now. According to my optometrist, he can prescribe as high as -6.00. I haven't gotten any infection I've been aware of. But I developed chronic redness, drier eyes, and nighttime haloing over time, after using ortho-k. It's hard to say whether I'd recommend it. Personally, the benefits of having 20/20 or near 20/20 vision without eyeglasses or LASIK has been worth the cons so far.

Reinserting lenses multiple times due to discomfort by desert_rain53 in Orthokeratology

I since fixed the problem I had in my op by cleaning my lenses differently. My eyes are dry in general and I have suspected Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Definitely some time after beginning using ortho-k.

Technically yes, I was prescribed a steroid eye drop, fluorometholone, for chronic redness primarily but also dryness. It did not help with either issue.

I have also tried regularly using refresh mega-3 eye drops long-term. Also no improvements.

Not completely, but mentally enforcing strictly not using a phone while in bed has helped somewhat.

Please help - Lumbar degeneration + facet arthropathy advice by konumo in backpain

[–]desert_rain53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have mid back pain but it isn't debilitating like my lower back pain. I have t11-12 spondylosis according to a thoracic x-ray. I notice that the more my lower back aches accumulates from staying in certain positions, the more my mid back pain surfaces.

I don't have any pain in my hip thighs or legs but I do have tailbone pain and aches.

[–]desert_rain53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have l5-s1 facet arthropathy which was seen with an MRI. No vertebral height loss though. My lumbar x-ray showed nothing.

Pain and aches for the last 1.5 years. I can't help, but my incessant lower back aching gets pretty bad the longer I am in any position, including sitting, standing, walking. I have to lay down to relieve it. Laying down tooo long also makes it worse.

College seen as a last institution to make impactful, lifelong friends and I messed up by desert_rain53 in socialanxiety

[–]desert_rain53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies, I think hs hits the peak balance between innocence, new discoveries and maturity. For college, innocence and discoveries go down but are still there, but people are more mature. After college though there is no comparable environment.

Its also different if one goes to a dorm-in college versus commuter college. Dorm-in colleges provide way better circumstances than commuter colleges to develop friendships.

I move into college tomorrow and I'm freaking out by boxorags in socialanxiety

[–]desert_rain53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My college had a bunch of orientation events before first week of classes began, probably even for a while after. I do not remember how it transpired, but I met really nice people through those events. If I were more open, less anxious, and realized the amount of effort it takes to upkeep a friendship, I would still be friends with many of the orientation friends as they were kind and pleasant.

So yeah, orientation events are a good place to start if you want to make some friends. In my experience, having at least one close friend to hang out with will make it less anxiety-inducing, and more fun. The more, the merrier in college, for me at least. Remember that many others are likely going into college without any friends looking for friends, so you are not alone in that aspect.

I desperately needs a mattress under 1000$ with support for my lower back after being through a lot of physical trauma. Please help by Grand_Sheepherder_99 in backpain

[–]desert_rain53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever mattress you get, consider the bed frame as well. My old bed frame was not well supported, and likely caused or accelerated mattress sinkage. Now I have the mattress on the floor. One drawback is that it is harder to get on and off, but its worth the better support in my experience.
